  • "Simply superb property."

Everything we needed and wanted for a comfortable and restful holiday. Could not fault the cottage at all. However I would never book a holiday through Helpful Holidays again. It was impossible to get through to them to ask a couple of questions. We phoned several times, either no applicable option or left listening to hold music for over half an hour. Emails were not responded to at all and 2 WhatsApp messages timed out because Helpful Holidays had not replied. If I was the owner of The Old Forge I would list with someone else.

4 adults, 2 children and 2 dogs all had a fabulous time. Nice to meet Nicki when she popped by to make sure everything was ok. Welcome package a lovely touch (and delicious too!) and the hot tub was a perfect way to finish the day off and unwind after a busy day exploring the sights! Even a couple of washout days couldn’t put a dampener on this break! Definitely hope to return in the future!

Such an amazing place to stay, we had fun getting lost on a walk in the valley with the dogs but people are so helpful and friendly. We received a welcome pack of quality sausages, wholemeal bread etc which was unexpected but very enjoyable. The cottage itself was delightful, the pictures in the desciption really don't do it justice. Everywhere was clean and furnished to a very high standard. Thanks Nikki, we will be back.

We had an issue with the washing machine but the owners were efficient at sorting it. The hot tub was the biggest let down as we only got to use it twice because it kept losing temperature so that was very disappointing. It was one of the big factors that made us book this cottage

Accommodation was to a high specification and had everything we needed - and more! The garden was a great size and most importantly was secure for our dog. The welcome food pack was a very pleasant surprise. St. Just is a lovely little place with a surprisingly busy feel about it. We were spoilt for choice when we wanted to eat out. We had read previous comments about the adjacent property causing an irritation but we barely noticed our neighbours. Even having experienced some very wet and windy weather during our stay, we really didn’t want to leave at the end of our week.

Fantastic location for many beaches and towns. Spacious & clean. The hot tub was used almost every evening! A few notes of feedback from the group that would have made our stay a little better would have been the provision of: - oven gloves - a vegetable peeler - a stair gate at the top of the stairs as well as bottom Other than that, your property is beautifully appointed and very comfortable. Some of my friends who came with me are keen to book again with their own families. And I’m sure I’ll be back again next year. So great for groups of friends, families as well as little ones. The property was spotless, the facilities are amazing (especially the hot tub) and the breakfast pack in the fridge was a great touch. We were slightly concerned reading the two negative reviews but after visiting I can clarify - yes, there is a property close by but it caused us no issues whatsoever. The second property has its own path that runs above the back garden so no one walks past your windows or dining room. Also - the property is set well back from the road and whilst there are houses on the other side we did not feel ‘overlooked’ at any point. The road that runs past is fairly quiet and also caused us no issues. Would definitely recommend and would love to return :)

Furniture and beds very comfortable and bathrooms and showers etc were lovely. Very clean inside and out. Location is perfect. We walked from the house to Lands End along the coastal path which was spectacular (about 6 miles). Minack theatre is a must see and is just 15 mins away. For golf enthusiasts, Mullion golf course down by the Lizard is superb. There is so much to do in the area. We would highly recommend this holiday home, it was a fabulous relaxing week and we’ll definitely be back. • "We’re not ones to complain (you can’t give anything less than a 1 star review) but its only fair anyone booking should be aware."

The pictures of the property make it appear isolated, and the ‘isolated’ search filter guides you to it. The main road of the village is running straight past, and there is very little privacy. You can’t see it in the pictures but there is a secondary property within 5 foot, its purposely cropped out of the images. Occupiers of that property are constantly walking past the dining room windows looking straight in to and from the shared driveway. There’s also 4/5 properties over road that have a clear view around the property. This is more of a gold fish bowl than a retreat. We complained and were brushed under the carpet multiple times and were refused any kind of refund, even though we didn’t stay in the property, after paying £1000 for 3 nights!!

I'm sorry that you felt that you were mislead by the advert on the website. Having thoroughly checked the information listed about our property there is no mention of the property being isolated or secluded and feel that if this was a priority a simple google map search may have been a benefit. Although the properties are close together they do not overlook each other. The complaint was noted and investigated by both the owners and the letting agents, both parties concluded that the property was as described and met all standards expected. The property was used overnight and before the property is let for guests it is fully cleaned and ready for occupation, although the property was only occupied for one night this did mean it required another full clean and linen change. The welcome pack that was provided was not able to be reused for the next guests due to perishable goods included (bread, sausages etc). We have successfully rented this property for 5 years and this is the only complaint of this type received. Property Owner

  • "The price and photos didn’t reflect the property."

Overlooked and noisy 60mph road next to the property, another property is also directly behind the cottage. We stayed for two weeks and the gardener, cleaner and owner used the property we’d paid £2500 for as a throughway for the Saturday changeover of the adjoining property. Leaving gates open for our dog to get out while they walked their own dog round our ‘private’ property. Not impressed at all.

I am extremely sorry that you felt that your privacy was invaded, I did knock on the door and received no answer, as there was no sign of anyone I assumed that you had gone out for the day. We went about business tidying, mowing the lawn and attending to the hot tub so that things were still in tip top condition and indeed would have used the side gate to enter next door but I honestly had no idea that anyone was in. This comment has taught me a huge lesson that I will not repeat and assume that guests are out. Also I am sorry that you felt that the photos didn't represent the property and although the properties are close together they do not overlook each other and are available to rent together should a large party wish to book them. There is a road next to the property but it is a B road with a maximum limit of 40mph and there is a large parking area and orchard that are between the property and the road so you do not step out straight on to it. A very well equipped and decorated cottage. Very comfortable in all respects. Excellent kitchen and equipment for those looking to cook in. The children loved the hot tub in the garden. The cottage is very well located for exploring the coastal paths and the old tin mines around St Just, and we found some wonderful sandy beaches - Porthchapel and Gwynver are the best, we think, but Sennen Cove is great too if you are looking for something more accessible. St Just has a good range of local shops - a small Co Op, a good good butcher and green grocer, and a terrific Moomaid ice cream parlour in the main square - or there is a huge Sainbury's off the A30 in Penzance. Nikki, the owner, dropped round a couple of times and was friendly and helpful. Definitely a five star cottage and location for anyone looking to explore the far west of Cornwall.

About the location

ST JUST

Penzance 7.2 miles; St Ives 12.9 miles.

St Just is the nearest town to Land’s End and is situated approximately eight miles west of Penzance. The town itself is an ancient settlement that has a strong mining history and there are several monuments and prehistoric antiquities to visit including the Bronze Age settlement at Cape Cornwall. St Just is ideally located for visitors to explore the far west of Cornwall as it is situated on the edge of the moors and close to the beautiful north coast. In the centre of the town is Plain-an-Gwarry, a theatre used for miracle plays in medieval times, and in more recent times for the Lafrowda Festival.
