  • "I booked this accommodation in error, thinking I had chosen the garden apartment."

For this reason I could only give the hut a full star rating as none of its failings were the fault of either the accommodation nor the owners, but simply its fit with our needs. It is a beautifully presented shepherds hut, fitted with everything you could need - if on a rather small scale. For two or three nights it would have been a wonderfully quirky stay, but with a full weeks worth of food and clothing it was unfortunately rather cramped. However, as I say, that was our fault and not the fault of the accommodation. Badgers Rest was spotlessly clean with a lovely shower. The outside facilities were comfortable and private, though we did not sample the hot tub. With the log burner going it was warm and cosy even in the height of a storm. If you want a cosy romantic getaway, then this is the place for you and I would highly recommend it.

Hi Kim and Richard Many thanks for your kind review, we look forward to seeing you again At Badgers Way! Kind Regards Sarah & Simon Property Owner

  • "Welcomed by dog poo on property."

Accommodation clean and tidy and well organised. No cooker, only microwave with browning option. Extremely small fridge with only ice cube box (not up to temperature for icecream which had to be thrown away). Underfloor heated told set for 21 degrees however didn’t come on during our stay at all despite low temperatures. No TV. Shower running simultaneously cold then hot. Hot tub not monitored by owners for pH level or hygiene. Concern expressed to owners via text (as no face to face contact with owners during stay) informed not needed. Felt unwell following hot tub use and so had to leave property two days early.

We are truly devastated by your scathing review as we feel it quite undeserved. I am not sure what you expected for less than £30pppn being that the next lowest rating we have previously received was 4.4. (You have scored us a full 2 points below that). We feel we provide excellent value and almost all our guests adore it and many return - perhaps this was the wrong choice of holiday accommodation for you? We address your issues below: 1. It is an open driveway & as local residents own dogs so although we check regularly this is somewhat beyond our control - we apologise for this being a first impression. 2. The oven is called a Zanussi Microwave combi-oven in which you can cook half a chicken or a lasagne so I’m not sure what your issue is here? 3. It is a small fridge with an ice box which you were informed about specifically prior to your visit 4. The heating is working and is at 23.5 degrees at the moment - we have never had anyone complain about this before as it can be manually adjusted by the guests (we also include a manual & a wood burner stove should you like extra heat). 5. Correct, there is no TV. The accommodation is designed to be a ‘get away from it all retreat’. We do provide wifi should you wish to bring a tablet though. 6. I have checked the shower with the current guests and there is no problem with it - they actually said it was lovely! 7. The tub was emptied & jetwashed before your stay. Hygiene is regularly checked but on the occasions we did so you were not present. The tub is kept at an ambient temperature so does not require chemicals in the same way an electric jacuzzi does (as these are kept hot all the time via a pumping system). Why you are associating your illness with a 15 minute dip in the hot tub I am not sure, all I can assume is that you would like this to be our fault 8. We don’t offer a ‘meet & greet’ service as it’s key safe entry. Should guests like to meet us they generally knock on our door, but we usually leave it to them Property Owner

All as advertised and the owners were keen to make us welcome. The wifi never worked (not a worry for us) but everything else just as we expected. A number of coastal walks and the castle accessible without the use of a car. Pubs and local shops just five minute walk away. Thoroughly recommended.

Sarah made us feel so welcome and the property was exactly as described. Lovely space saving measures, plenty of storage room and everything we could have wanted. The wood fired hot tub was amazing and we spent every evening it it. Only a 10 minute walk into Tintagel which was very convenient after an evening of eating and drinking! Comfortable bed and surprisingly spacious for a shepherds hut. Hosts were extremely helpful. All the facilities you need inside as well as a nice decking area to eat outside and a wood fired hot tub to use on the evenings. Lovely town of Tintagel a short walk down the road. Pubs, restaurants and delicious pasties (We’d recommend Pengenna) all nearby the historic/mythical remains of King Arthur’s castle. Breathtaking views from the castle and along the coastal path. Lots to do nearby: 10 minute drive to the beautiful tidal beach at Trebarwith strand (2.5 hours either side of low tide) would highly recommend biking along the camel trail from Padstow or Wadebridge, stopping off at the gorgeous Camel Valley vineyard (must book a table). A fantastic base to discover the north Cornish coast.
