  • "We had a fabulous week at Carpe Diem, the cottage is easy walking distance to Crantock, its beach, pubs cafes and shops."

We are keen walkers and it was also ideally situated for access the swc path, cubert common and the keeleys to go further afield. Once we arrived, the car didn’t leave the driveway, but having said that you are close to the roads back to the A30 and towards Truro etc . The cottage itself, was warm, comfortable and very clean, well equipped kitchen and the utility and front porch were extremely useful for us, it is on a busy corner, but the courtyard garden is very secure and our border collie loved lying out there watching the passing world ! You just need to take a little care pulling off the drive or walking out the gate but nothing too busy for us. All in all I would recommend Carpe Diem and am looking forward to going back!

We very pleased that you had such a great stay at Carpe Diem and found it warm, comfortable and very clean. How lovely to hear that you didn’t need to use your car as there was so much within walking distance of Carpe Diem – it sounds a perfect way to holiday. Your border collie sounded as though he really enjoyed the seclusion and the security of the courtyard garden and no doubt the outside hot shower too. It was indeed our pleasure having you as our guests Diane and we can’t wait for you to return! Dot & Simon Property Owner

  • "Had a wonderful week staying at Carpe Diem."

There were 6 of us in our party and we found the house exactly as described. Before arriving we had plenty of contact from Dot, the owner, who gave us plenty of helpful information to make our stay even better. The house is well equipped and in a good location. The local Londis shop (less than a 5 minute walk) is open for long hours and had everything we needed so no drive to a supermarket was required. As mentioned in other reviews the walk back from the beach is fairly challenging but if you know cornwall hills are to be expected! We visited both pubs in the village (opposite each other) and found them both welcoming, with good food and drink with plenty of entertainment. Bus stops are very close to the house and we used the bus regularly to get into Newquay (20mins) and then connecting buses to Truro, Falmouth and Padstow. We would definitely return to Carpe Diem as it was a lovely house in a fab location and we all had a relaxing and hassle free holiday.

Thank you Louise. We are thrilled that you and your party had such a great stay at Carpe Diem and that it was everything we described. I will be sure to pass on the local bus stop information just across by the green- how lovely not to need to use your car. Crantock is indeed a great place for a wonderful holiday with all it has to offer and so much within walking distance of Carpe Diem. It was our pleasure having you as our guests and we are looking forward to your return! Dot & Simon Property Owner

  • "We enjoyed our stay but it was not quite what we were expecting."

The house is very well equipped with plenty of space but it is on the corner of the main road through the village and the traffic is quite noisy. It was impossible to sleep with the windows open. Also, the 'garden' is a small paved area and the 'summerhouse' is a shed containing beach equipment. It's a bit of a trek to the beach and more so up the hill coming back! Had I seen a map of the position of the house before I booked I would not have chosen to stay there. We had a good time, it was just a bit disappointing.

Thank you for your review Jan, we are very pleased you enjoyed your stay and found the house well-equipped with plenty of space. All our guests have been delighted with Carpe Diem, giving it top marks and returning regularly. We can appreciate that the central village location may be slightly noisier than a secluded countryside location however, the joy of being in the village, close to the shops and amenities and being just a short walk to the beach has been something our guests absolutely love! As the photographs highlight the garden/patio is paved and we explain that the summerhouse is used to store the beach equipment that is provided for our guests. The beauty of North Cornwall is that the villages sweep down to the beach, therefore, inevitably, there will always be an incline back to the village. Glad you had a good time overall and wishing you all the best for future holidays. Property Owner

  • "We returned last Saturday (13 July) from our weeks stay at Carpe Diem in Crantock."

We had an amazing holiday, were expecting a rainy week but the Cornish weather was kind to us most days with lots of sun. What a find Carpe Diem was, we felt relaxed and at home the moment we let ourselves in. The house was spotless and was everything we expected. Everyone was over the moon with their chosen room, soon unpacked, plenty of wardrobe and drawer space (plenty of hangers) for all. The kitchen had every piece of equipment and every utensil you could need, plenty of cupboard space and large fridge/freezer. The lounge is large light and airy with lovely comfortable leather sofas for relaxing in the evening. Dot, the owner, answered the couple of queries we had immediately and Tracey, the property manager is at end of the phone if needed. Harvey our black Labrador also made himself at home in Carpe Diem and loved Crantock beach which is in easy walking distance and we experienced some wonderful sunsets there. From start to finish I can’t fault our week away and hope to return for another break before too long.

The house is in walking distance for the beach and two local pubs, also in a great location with a car for visiting other parts of the area. The house itself we could not fault it was clean , well equipped and very comfortable. Well enclosed back patio with plenty of room for my daughters two labs. Dot the owner text lots of useful information just before our holiday. And Tracey who looks after the property was just a phone call away if you needed anything. We would definitely return in the future for another holiday. Vicki & family.

  • "We wanted to be able to walk to the beach and the village and Carpe Diem is perfectly situated in this regard."

Wonderfully spacious cottage, with almost everything to hand. The enclosed garden was great for our little dog, but it was also easy enough to slip up the road with him too. Dot, the owner, was so friendly and helpful, as was Tracey. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Unfortunately, the weather was awful but the cottage was lovely and warm when we arrived and we enjoyed our stay, nonetheless.

  • "What a fantastic find - the property was absolutely gorgeous."

It met our every need, close to the village and the beach, the rooms were lovely, clean, spacious and comfortable. The only thing missing was a BBQ (but the owners understandably had taken that away due to the mess left previously) but had supplied a metal outdoor table, an extra key as we only had one between 8 of us, a hot tub would have been lovely and maybe better weather for our stay but obv nothing can be done about that! All in all, i would go back in a heartbeat and recommend to everyone.

We were thrilled Linzi had such a fantastic time at Carpe Diem especially as recently we had the house completely redecorated internally and had new carpet in all the carpeted areas. We also took on board her comments and have provided a party-sized disposable BBQ to accompany the stainless steel BBQ table for our guests. Additionally, there are two keys available for our guests. Thank you Linzi, we look forward to having you all stay at Carpe Diem again! Property Owner

  • "Highly recommend!"

You won’t be disappointed in this ‘perfect’ quiet location right within walking distance to the best beach I’ve visited yet in Cornwall. Being very dog friendly, we enjoyed great walks and fantastic local food. The house is beautiful, in immaculate condition with everything to hand, home from home. The garden is very secure for peace of mind for both children and dogs. The bedrooms were very comfortable, spacious and all have their own tv, including the huge TV in the lounge! Great quality leather sofas which made our nights in cosy and comfortable with the very much loved wood burner. I will definitely be returning to this property, what a great find, thank you!!

  • "The house was lovely and it was a lovely village."

Almost spotless but had a few cobwebs and the freezer needed defrosting as we could hardly open the draws. Bathrooms clean and plentiful. Bedroom one of good size and reasonably comfortable. Other 3 bedrooms very very small. Downstairs bedroom bed ok. The 2 small rooms upstairs had the most uncomfortable beds. They may just be ok for children but definitely not for adults. We had to sleep on the sofas. Because of this the house was not suitable for 6 adults and 2 children and the booking should not have been accepted. Such a shame as it spoilt the whole week and we felt cheated and tired. Our friends were close by and their place didn’t look as good but was cheaper with very comfortable beds.

Thank you for your feedback Our visitor wellbeing in our priority, we were not advised that your child was uncomfortable in the single bed until after you had left, we are really sorry we had not been contacted or our property manager been contacted (who lives close by), she would have attended immediately to resolve the issue for you. Since your departure we have resolved these issues with you directly. The beds were purchased recently so that the single beds could be zip linked together as a king size bed on request. Our property manager defrosts the freezer as part of her regular clean after each stay and cleans throughout, we can only apologise that you found a cobweb whilst you were there, we are pleased that you otherwise found it spotless. We are sorry that you felt the property did not meet your expectations as we have never had any other feedback about beds from anyone staying at our property. We do feel that the Sykes website gives a true representation of the bedroom’s true potential. Property Owner

The hot outside shower is absolutely fantastic. We would have liked a tumble dryer given the nature of this holiday (beach surfing British weather ) even if there was an extra meter coin charge there is a outside line not that helpful in the British climate !! I felt uneasy draping wet towels etc around the home , this was not appropriate we could not find an airer! If there was one I am sorry we could not locate one , our only issue but a significant one if you are faced with 7 peoples wet items everyday.

  • "We had a lovely week in Crantock."

The area is fabulous. The house, overall was OK, but could definitely be improved. The location is incredibly noisy. So much road noise throughout the day and night. No ventilation other than the windows, so the choices were to either melt in a heap or have the road noise. Fans in the bedrooms would be a very good addition. The main bathroom wasn't great. Four of us sharing this and there was nowhere to keep toiletries as there were no cupboards or shelves. Window sill was very crowded. Also, the shower cubicle was very small and again nowhere to put shampoo etc. The outside area was disappointing and photo misleading. No garden, just a yard. We would definitely return to Crantock, but not Carpe Diem.

An easily accessible house in the middle of the village, in Cornwall, in August will always be noisier than renting in May miles away from any shops or the beach. Our guests were extremely fortunate to have had such incredibly hot weather and even though we have never needed fans since renting our property, we would have been happy to assist with a delivery of fans. Access to the beach and the cooling coast, is minutes away. There are 3 bathrooms / shower rooms; access to all 3 for a maximum of 8 in a group is a matter of choice. All are beautifully equipped. The photographs of the garden were taken before we paid for a Garden Designer to update our large outside area with designer troughs, a summer house for storing beach and walking equipment and a low level picket fence for the safety of individuals and pets whilst holidaying with us. Our area also includes wrought iron tables and chairs and BBQ unit and an external shower unit. We are saddened to hear that you will not be returning to stay with us as many our many lovely regular returners do. As hosts we are always accessible to accommodating our guests needs and if there is anything that our Manager cannot arrange, they only need contact us directly and we will happily assist. 8 of us stayed and we all enjoyed the space and position the house was from the beach. Every morning we walked the dogs down to the beach and returned past the village shop which baked fresh pasterie such a pan- o chocolate , Cinnamon rolls and cousants. Lovely after a brush walk on a sunny and frosty beach. Excellent property and we all said we would visit again if we had the opportunity.

We had a great week and appreciated all the facilities that the house had. Plenty of room to all sit together in the lounge in the evening and the 3 bathrooms made the return from the beach and shower routine very quick and easy. Location is great, a real bonus not using the car all week and being able to walk to the beach, shop and pub. It was all the little extras that made this a really easy trip, from the soap left in every bathroom, to the coffee filter papers (who wants to make a special trip just to use the coffee machine?!), and the really large bath towels. We are already looking at booking again, at the request of our teenagers, usually so hard to please!!!

Only 2 criticism’s. Planters in the garden would have been a nice touch however they have never been weeded so now more weeds than plants and just look messy. Carpets are due a vax and the stairs looked pretty dirty. We looked to book again for August 2019 but the cost of the cottage was extorniate. We are taking the kids to a 4* all inclusive platinum hotel in Spain for the same price in June instead.
