Beautiful welcome with milk, cake and bottle of wine as a lovely gesture.,Beautiful barn and lovely location to various places to visit such as Eden Project, Padstow, Port Issac and many walks and beaches are nearby. Had a lovely break and made lots of long lasting memories.

Perfect location to get out and about, the old dairy was maintained brilliantly a real home from home, there was a little bit of wear and tear but nothing unexpected. Lovely enclosed garden with fantastic sunsets at the end of the day, we’ve booked again for next year already!!!

The property is in a beautiful location and kept to a very high standard. A big thank you to the housekeeper, Gina. It would be veey helpful to have grab rails in both bathrooms to help get in and out of the shower/bath safely. Also, a shower mat is needed in the second bedroom ensuite as it is a safety hazard. We also had an issue with a dog in staying in one if the neighbouring properties coming into the front garden, could a gate be provided?

  • "Me and my wife really enjoyed our week long stay at this cottage."

The cottage it self was very well set out and had all the usual comforts we like. There were a few minor points. The bed in the main bedroom was too small compared to ours at home. The dishwasher sprung a leak 3 days into our stay, the owner was unable to get anyone out to fix it for the remainder of our stay. Finally, as we were staying during the Xmas period we asked if a Xmas tree could be present since this had been provided at other cottages we've stayed at before. A blunt NO was the reply. Obviously not in the T&Cs but certainly not in the Xmas spirit either. Also, just 5 lonely logs were left for us to use in the log burner, where as other cottages we've stayed have left have left almost a week's supply. Aside from the minor gripes stated, we still thoroughly enjoyed our time at this cottage and would recommend it

Hi Derek, Many thanks for the feedback and I am so glad you enjoyed your stay. For people reading your feedback and who have not visited the barn, I think it would be useful for them to be aware that the bed in the main bedroom is a King Size double. This will help them put into context the size of the bed in the barn compared to their beds in their own homes. It is correct that, given the Christmas holidays we were unable to get an engineer our to inspect the dishwasher before the end of your stay. The issue was subsequently rectified and was found to be caused by broken glass in the machine which damaged the pump and pump casing which had to be replaced. With regards to the Christmas Tree, the question that I was asked prior to your visit was “Is there a Christmas Tree in the Barn”, hence the reason my response was a direct reply. I did also say that there are fairy lights installed around the fireplace / book case and that you would be welcome to bring additional decorations if you wished, which I hope was feed back to you. Again, your comments are very much appreciated, and I hope you will visit our home again in the future. Property Owner

Kitchen extremely well equipped and we really loved the welcome tea tray with proper cups and saucers and the lemon drizzle cake!!! The wine and flowers were also a lovely touch! We were very lucky with the weather in October and enjoyed sitting outside with the views across the field!! Great location for visiting Padstow, Bodmin and other local national trust properties. The quality of the accommodation, furnishings and equipment was of a high standard, with the owners providing everything you could possibly need. The outdoor space was a good size, this was important to us as we were travelling with our two children age 9 & 13. Another added bonus was that it had a fantastic airing cupboard! I know this sounds random but when travelling with kids this is important and meant I didn’t need to use the dryer! The location was excellent too and we were able to explore lots of Cornwall easily. We had days out in Padstow, Newquay, Crantock, Fowey, Tintagel and Boscastle. I would definitely recommend this accommodation to anyone wanting to explore Cornwall!

  • "Based on our experience this property does not warrant its 5 tick rating."

The first set back was to find that access was not allowed until 5pm. In many years of holidaying in cottages we have never experienced such a late arrival time; 3pm often, 4pm occasionally but never 5pm. When you have frozen food in the boot and after a long journey 5pm is unacceptable. This should be made clear in the listing rather than only finding out in the final correspondence from Sykes. The freezer was in poor condition being choked with ice and in serious need of being defrosted. We had to chip ice away to be able to produce space for our frozen food to squeeze in. With so long between check out and check in (7 hours) we might have expected the place at least to be clean. Unfortunately not so. There were crumbs on the dining table and surrounding floor and the table mats had the remains of the last guests' meal. The kitchen worktop was not clean and was so sticky that anything placed on the surface became stuck to it. It was quite unpleasant to the touch and unhygienic. This was not a cheap cottage and, for the price, we should not expect to have to start cleaning it before being able to settle in. Such a shame as this is good accommodation but let down by poor housekeeping. It is not one that we will be returning to.

Thank you for your feedback. The freezer gets defrosted 3 times a year and the worktop has now been stripped, it seems to have reacted to the hot weather, making it appear sticky in places. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Property Owner

  • "Overall a pleasant 2 week stay very quiet and peaceful location."

Pleased with facilities in particular the Duux fans superb and required. Beds were comfy and showers powerful and hot. Not so good was filthy BBQ on arrival an oven tray full of grease in the oven and overall cleanliness in some areas was below what I would expect at 2000 a week.

Thank you for your feedback and we were glad that you enjoyed a pleasant stay at The Old Diary. I appreciate that we exchanged information during your stay regarding the concern you raised about the garden BBQ that had not been cleaned prior to your arrival, but for people reading your feedback who will not be familiar with the property or our discussions, I think it is important to point out the following; The Garden BBQ and portable BBQ have been provided for the use of guests, including information within the Welcome Notes on the use of the BBQ, including the request for guests to clean the BBQ after they have used it so it is ready for use by the next guests. I believe this is a reasonable request and standard across many holiday homes where facilities such as BBQs are provided. Unfortunately, the guests staying at the property the previous week did not clean the BBQ after they had used it. Sadly, it is not possible to incorporate BBQ cleaning into the changeover schedules due to time constraints, but hopefully you are able to use the portable BBQ during your stay. I am sorry that you didn’t raise the other topic of the dirty oven tray with myself, or the housekeeper and I can assure you that this is the first time any such issue has been reported in the several years we have been renting the property as it forms part of the normal "change over inspection". • "The location was perfect being very close to the beaches and Padstow."

The barn was very well equipped and we had most things we needed. We had a very relaxing stay but there were a few things that were annoying/prevented this from being the perfect stay. I found it odd that we only had one hand towel per couple for the whole week. I did ask the housekeeper if this was correct and was told this was normal. I would have preferred a hand towel for the bathroom, and one per person for face drying, for hair etc. The barn would also benefit from having somewhere to hang wet towels, a hook behind the bathroom door for example. We stayed at the hottest week of the year and the fans were very welcoming! There were however no windows we could leave open at night, just the outside bedroom doors which I did not feel comfortable doing. We also noticed quite a lot of cobwebs in the property which I would not have expected to see. Some minor adjustments would make this a truly 5 star property.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback following your recent stay at The Old Diary and we are glad you had a relaxing stay. We are glad you found the fans provided in each of the bedrooms of use especially as your stay coincided with some of the hottest days ever recorded in the UK. We also hope you made use of the “door stay" on the French door in the main bedroom to enable the door to be opened but secure, when in the property. With regards to the ability to hang wet towels, I think it is important to clarify especially for anybody who may be reading your comments and who have not visited the barn, that there are heated towel rails available in each of the bathrooms and additional drying facilities in the boiler room for drying things such as beach towels, coats (if the weather has been unkind) etc. Sorry you found some cobwebs in the barn. Due to the rural nature of the property, it is inevitable that cobwebs, spiders etc are prevalent and I know, from personal experience of living in the property, that you can remove cobwebs when cleaning only for them to reappear a few hours later. That said, I have made the housekeeper aware of your experience and I would again like to thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. Property Owner

  • "This property is one of our favourites for it's layout and location."

The quality of the fixtures & fittings and the interior decoration and comfort is to a high standard. However we had a few issues on arrival that did disappoint us and had some effect upon our stay. Firstly the flushing mechanism on the Toilet in one bathroom just shattered upon our first use, rendering the toilet unusable until we managed to contact the owners ( after a few calls) and arrange for them to send someone over to repair the flush, which did not happen right away I'm afraid. Meanwhile (for a few days) the four of us had to manage with just one toilet! Additionally, we did find that there was some areas of dust and 'cob-webs' in the property, which suggested that the cleaning had been rushed and not completely done as we wood of expected. Finally, there was misleading information regarding the 'refuse collection' day? meaning that the previous occupants missed the collection, leaving a huge piles of bottles and rubbish and then we also missed the early morning collection because it was stated in the information booklet that it would be collected early Friday Mornings, when they actually collected the waste on Thursday morning!. These are important details you need to be aware of, as they could easily be major issues with other customers, just a simple case of communication and a few double checks around the place may help avoid this kind of thing in the future. Apart from that, our stay was very relaxing and we will always consider staying here again in the future.

Simple things i) directions. Do not follow your sat nav but follow the written instructions as the sat nav takes you down a very narrow lane that is the rabbit run for locals. It was November -It was mucky ii) The property had underfloor heating. The first night the boiler seemed to be on constantly with a bedroom stifling. The instruction to turn up or down the heating did not seem to work . The next 2 days the heating was not sufficient and the instructions to increase/decrease had no effect. iii) We had a budget and looked at Premier Inn prices and decided to stay for 3 days in the Sykes property as it was similar. I subsequently find that if we had booked the whole week the price would have been the same. (£451)We would have stayed the whole 7 days as it was still in our budget. This fact was disappointing and you should have pointed this out. So property would have been perfect if the heating worked properly. Pricing? You need to work on this
