  • "We had a wonderful holiday at 1 Rose Cottages."

The cottage was very comfortable, clean and bright and is in a lovely location. There's a nice little garden area to sit out in. The local bus stops by the church which is very close to the cottage and we found this useful for linear walks. We were glad we didn't need to use the car during our holiday as the roads are very narrow. A big thank you to the owners who have decorated, furnished and equipped the cottage so well.

  • "We had a lovely holiday at the small hamlet of Lansallos - away from the crowds."

The walk down to the NT beach was magical; on our first evening we had the whole cove to ourselves. It's a perfect base for walking sections of the South West Coastal Path. If you want a village with a pub, shops, sandy beach etc, then look elsewhere. The cottage was lovely and had its own parking space. Would recommend.

  • "The beautiful, seemingly small, two berth cottage that proved to be one of the most comfortable and roomy cottages we have ever stayed in."

With plenty of home comforts, a well appointed compact kitchen, a large dual aspect bedroom, a well designed bathroom and a private garden, this cottage was a welcome surprise. The location was also exceptional, a quiet wooded, backwater, steeped in history, that gave access to the coast either by road to nearby Polruan or Polperro or on foot down the steep footpaths to the sea coves of Lansallos. ( note these walks are not for folks with mobility issues.) All in all a highly recommendable cottage.

Thankyou for your very kind comments. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you will book again. Property Owner

  • "The usual high standards of Sykes holiday lets as been maintained: the place was super clean and well equipped, very comfortable double bed, good hot shower, small garden and when the antiquated wall heaters got their act together it was a very cosy."

One consequence of the village being 95% second home & holiday lets is that it was quiet - the main attractions were the village beach a 20 minute walk away past the permanently locked ancient church and superb coastal paths to Polperro and Polruan (for the ferry to Fowey). Such rural isolation comes at a price: the nearest pub was at Polperro (The Blue Peter highly recommended), the nearest supermarket was a Spar shop 3 miles away at Pelynt and all the buses to the nearest stop (Crumplehorn) from Looe, Plymouth and Liskeard cease by 7pm. Highly recommended.

I did suggest last time we visited you during October 2016 that perhaps a roller blind over kitchen door would be nice. Basically for privacy and during the darker evenings would be more cosier. However that is a small suggestion. On the whole we had a very enjoyable stay and the cottage was pristine. Thank you. We will definitely come again if we decide to come to Cornwall again. X

Near to Polperro and Looe and most places within easy reach. Bus service runs every few hours to main towns The location is very peaceful, but you need to be aware that you need to go down a 3 mile mainly single track lane to get to it with limited pull ins. The drive is not for the faint-hearted!

Very clean, very comfortable and very quiet, with everything I could want. Perfect to unplug, hike the SWCP and enjoy some quiet rest and relaxation. I will be back! My only bug-bear - particular to me perhaps - please take down the notice that blames COVID for not having a plug for the washing machine. Covid is over, no longer an excuse for anything at all, let alone the lack of a single kitchen plug.

  • "A good place to rest and spend a week on exploring the coastal hiking trails like us do."

The rooms are not big, but cosy. The heat rack in the bathroom doesn’t seem to work, but the cottage is sufficiently heated and insulated so the bathroom doesn’t feel cold at all. The 4 miles long single traffic roads are tricky especially in foggy rainy days, so it’s better to pick up enough grocery on your way to the cottage

Thank you for your comments. The towel rail may not have been switched on, I have not had any other issues with it. Your comments concerning the roads, I am afraid I cannot do anything about this and they are typical Cornish lanes. Thankyou for staying in Rose Cottages. Property Owner

I rate this as a downside to my stay. I have been staying at No 2 Rose cottage for a number of years and thought I would try no1 now the kids holiday with their mates. It’s isolated, narrow roads but if sensible this is not a problem. New cleaner since our last visit and she does an exceptional job, cannot fault the cleanliness. Had problems with the windows, 1 bracket broken on Kitchen window. Living room window mechanisms came undone and we were unable to shut window. Simple fix but had no tools with me. Bought a screw driver and fixed window.

Thankyou for your comments. Sorry for your problems with the windows. I take onboard all your comments especially about the television. Please come again. Property Owner

  • "We loved our stay at 1 Rose Cottage."

It's a lovely cottage in a tiny village with two floors and a little garden and everything you need for a great base. Our little daughter especially loved the stairs and the garden, as we live in a flat and she hadn't seen either really (shes 17 months, honestly had the time of her life climbing the 10 steps again and again). The nearby villages of Polporo, Loo and Fowey are all special in different ways and we found it straightforward driving about from here. The beach is quite a track, but really worth while going down to! Great holiday, lovely cottage, would definatly recommend and hope to go back one day

Thankyou for your feedback. So pleased you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

  • "Loved the lightness of the cottage."

Mostly well equipped but with an emphasis on cleaning equipment? It was everywhere! I do not consider a holiday to be a holiday if cleaning is to be part of it. Of course I want my space to be nice for me to be in … but two vacuum cleaners? Would far rather have had the space all that took up by having a small dishwasher. Also, the message sent by Sykes cottages on my penultimate day hoping that I had had a “fabulous stay” was barely into the second sentence before I was being “reminded of how I should leave the cottage”, “safe and clean and tidy”! I think you’re asking too much of your guests when you also insist on a 9am departure … leaving 8 hours for the cottage to be prepped for the next guests. You realise that the last morning is therefore spent in a state of early packing, tidying, etc etc destroying the chance of a last lingering, enjoyable breakfast during which we could have reflected on how sad we were to leave … no chance. If your reasoning is that your cleaner has to prepare all 4 cottages in that time then perhaps you should employ more cleaners.

Thank you for your feedback concerning No 1 Rose Cottage. Whilst I appreciate your comments If you are referring to the cupboard under the stairs this is the only space for the cleaner to be able to keep supplies needed for changeovers. We have 2 cleaners and since Covid have tried extremely hard to make sure they are throughly cleaned and aired before the next clients come in. By asking clients to leave by 9am ensures we can achieve this. Because of the size of the cottage having a dishwasher would mean a loss of some cupboard space in a small kitchen . We take on board peoples comments and will look at how we can improve our service going forward. Property Owner

This time friends joined us next door at No 2. Weather not as good this time but we still thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and had lots of walks along the coastal path and trips to nearby Looe, Polperro and Polruan via the brilliant little buses. Spring flowers along the way were beautiful. We recommend the Hall Walk from Polruan to Fowey including 2 ferries and a lunch stop at the Old Ferry Inn, Bodinnick. We love this cottage which is brilliant for 2, so comfortable and well-equipped with big shared garden, adequate parking and pub and shop several miles away. But beware, it is isolated and down many very narrow lanes! We had an issue with a draughty window (had to have heating on despite it being May), which we reported but it wasn't dealt with during our stay. However we definitely recommend.

Thankyou for your comments. I am glad you enjoyed your stay. The problem with the window is being sorted and we are awaiting parts to repair. We look forward to seeing you again. Property Owner

  • "The Cottage 1 for couple, is lovely and has mod cons, but failed to mention that the Lane to the cottage is on a long single Lane with pull in sections for oncoming cars!"

The parking is quite tight with high bank next to the gate of cottage 4. The arrival time was 4pm and leaving was 9 am we really lost a day of our holiday and yes I know about COVID but find this a poor excuse! The couch and armchair we found uncomfortable and the bed was awful and made sleeping hard due to the mattress being hard, leaving me with back and hip pain! The info says just outside Polperro, yes it is, but….as you need to travel down long winding narrow lanes with occasional pull in sections to get to Polperro which is something quite scary at times! which I feel needs to be included in the information, not only cars we encountered, but single decker buses and if I’d have know this I wouldn’t have booked here! Sat Nav is useless. After this experience I would not go to Cornwall again.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and you experienced the classic Cornish roads. The single lane track with high edges are the characteristic scenery for Cornwall, with the beautiful openings for the ocean view. The check in and check out time have been modified to adhere to Covid 19 guidelines and assure all guests and staff are safe. For the mattress we are sorry to hear you found it too hard, the owner will take in consideration your suggestion and see what’s possible to do. We hope you will try to be adventurous again in the future for more lovely Cornish holidays Property Owner

It was equipped with everything we could have needed and was idea for the two of us on our first visit to Cornwall together. The size of the living area, the bedroom and bathroom were perfect and the outside was of a good size too. The price represented great value for money and we were very sad to leave what had become our home for the week we stayed there the day we had to leave. Thanks to the owners who certainly have a beautiful cottage and have provided their guests with a lovely setting for the duration of the stay. Would have been nice to have a slightly larger TV in the lounge and a slightly deeper bath but these were very minor issues in what was a fantastic weeks stay. Would love to return again at some time thank you for an amazing stay!

This is lovely cottage in every respect, and we could find no faults with it. The bed was the most comfortable we have experienced in many years of using Sykes Cottages. Often properties can be faulted for lack of storage space, but not this one. Even the bathroom had a vanity unit and wall cabinet. We met the owner, and it was obvious that she was passionate about the cottages, since they had been in her family for a long time. It was a great base for visiting the many places of interest both locally, Polperro, and further afield, and was only a 1/2 mile downhill track to a lovely cove and the S W coast path, so no shortage of walks (though the path back up is fairly steep). Very highly recommended.

  • "We have stayed at No 1 Rose Cottages previously so we knew what to expect."

It had changed very little, there is pretty much everything you need and it is clean and well maintained, however the carpets could do with a thorough deep clean. There is extensive garden space at the back of the four cottages but only a small area allocated to No 1. When we stayed previously it was pleasant to sit in the garden in the early morning/late afternoon sun, however due to the growth of the hedge and a tree at the bottom of the gardens it is now in shade most of the day. There is an issue with parking. There is only supposed to be parking for 1 car per cottage, however there were already four cars when we arrived. The parking space is small, little more than a verge marked 'parking for Rose Cottages' and the lane is very narrow. We found on this stay that someone staying in one of the cottages would always be parked at an angle making it easy for them to get out, but very hard for others to park. It would really benefit from four clearly marked spaces with cottage numbers.
