The property

The Old Engine House is located in a peaceful smallholding near the tiny hamlet of Tretoil on the edge of Bodmin Moor.

Surrounded by reminders of Cornwall’s ancient mining heritage, this comfortable cottage, converted from an old engine house, is ideal for couples.

Watch out for Fred, the friendly owners’ soppy dog – the owners live next door and provide home-produced pork!

On the ground floor is a cosy living room with wood burning stove, well-equipped kitchen and snug dining room for romantic suppers.

Spruce up in the smart ground floor shower room before retiring to the double bedroom on the first floor.

From the kitchen there’s a door to the simple garden with raised decking, ideal for evening sundowners.

Explore historic Bodmin with its infamous gaol and interesting shops or hire a bike and visit nearby Lanhydrock House.

Fine, sandy beaches are just a short drive away at Carlyon bay and Padstow.

A fascinating place for couples who enjoy walking, cycling or golf and ideally placed for exploring the whole of Cornwall.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.

Where you’ll be staying

TRETOIL

Bodmin, the one-time County Town of Cornwall with its narrow streets, shops and pubs, is perfectly placed for exploring all that this fabulous holiday area has to offer. The outstanding surf, rugged cliffs and hidden coves of the north coast beaches and the quieter sands and river estuaries of the south coast are both 15 miles away while on the edge of town is the fascinating museum and haunting presence of the old Bodmin Jail. The popular Camel Trail for cyclists and walkers also winds its way through the town on its journey to the sea at Padstow. Close by are the open spaces and wind swept grandeur of Bodmin Moor while the incomparable Eden Project (11 miles), Falmouth’s National Maritime Museum (30 miles) and the beautiful harbour town of Padstow with its famous pubs and restaurants (16 miles) make for great days out. Also within easy reach and ideal for a fun-filled day out, guests can visit Lanhydrock House, the small town of Fowey and Charlestown with its Tall Ships. There is a good choice of country pubs and restaurants in the surrounding area.
