  • "Have been visiting Porthleven for 50 years and Crab Pot Cottage provided us with one of our best experiences."

Clean, comfortable and spacious with good personal touches from the owner. Great location to look round the harbour and visit some great eating places and close enough to The Blue Anchor in Helston!! Hope to return.

It was great to talk with you during your stay and to know you enjoyed being in Crab Pot. Your lovely comments mean a lot. We really do hope to welcome you back in the future. Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a good review. Property Owner

  • "This is a terrific place to stay."

Comfortable lounge, separate dining room and a well equipped kitchen with every mod con including a second fridge freezer and a toilet next to a utility room. Didn’t make use of the side courtyard but this would be useful on a hot summer’s day. The garden overlooks the harbour and perfect for drinks and eating outside. Bedrooms are comfortable and two bathrooms make this perfect for a family stay.Parking isn’t usually an issue and you are minutes away from the excellent cafes and restaurants around the harbour. This is my fifth stay in this house, I wouldn’t consider staying anywhere else in Porthleven.

Wow! Thank you so much for a wonderful review. It is always a pleasure to welcome you to Crab Pot. We do put a lot of hard work into the cottage so are particularly appreciative of guests like you who see that and take the time to write such a glowing review. You are very kind and thoughtful. I am delighted you have enjoyed your stay once more and hope to welcome you again another year to Cornwall and to Crab Pot. I hope your journey home wasn’t a bad one as I know road conditions were not good in places. I’m pleased that you obviously got home safely. Very best wishes to you and your family. Property Owner

A roomy, traditional Cornish cottage with comfortable furnishings and a welcoming, homely feel. Views over the harbour from the front two bedrooms and a quaint, small garden/patio area overlooking the harbour. We loved our stay and would not hesitate to re-book.

It was really good to have spoken to you whilst you were in the cottage and for you to have taken the time to make contact. Your comments are very much appreciated. • "One star for incorrect address given for the cottage which led us up a single track cul de sac causing reversing problems, property turned out to be on the other side of the harbour."

Two stars for cleanliness because the cottage kitchen cupboards were so jam packed full of equipment that nothing was cleaned properly. Two stars for comfort, bed and lounge were good. Many areas of the cottage were cramped. One star for facilities and maintenance, most of sanitaryware didn't function properly.

It was unfortunate you were given the incorrect postcode by Cornish Cottage Holidays, not a good start to your holiday. The description and photographs do clearly show the cottage to be overlooking the inner harbour. The cottage is kept exceptionally clean in all areas and is usually complimented on how well equipped and clean it is and never that there is too much in the cupboards. Following your stay I went to the cottage and checked everything. The shower in the shower room is was found to be functioning perfectly well so I am mystified as to why you seemed to have a problem with that one of the two in the cottage. No one had mentioned an issue with sink and bath plugs in the en-suite prior to your stay. That has now been looked into and one of the two plugs replaced. When we spoke you acknowledged that if prior guests had not mentioned it, I would not know. Thank you for flagging that. Of the three toilets in the cottage there was a fault with the one in the shower room. It appears that the screw inside the cistern attaching the handle to it was loose. Possibly as a consequence of it being loose the hook joining the handle to the flush mechanism had detached. An easy fix as it turned out. It was such a shame you did not contact me as soon as the problems occurred and I could have found a plumber to visit. You arrived on the Saturday and did not inform me of any problems until the following Thursday mid day. I tried but it was not possible to get a plumber to come on your one remaining day, a busy changeover day, Friday. I’m pleased you found the high quality beds to be comfortable and also the lounge furniture. I hope you were also able to take advantage of the lovely seating area overlooking the harbour during your stay. Crab Pot is described as a characterful Edwardian ‘cottage’ and has been lovingly restored and brought up to date. Your adverse comments are not reflective of all the very positive ones found in the Visitors Book. Property Owner

During your time in Porthleven, be sure to pay a visit to the Baulk Stocks and the picture-perfect locale of Porthleven Harbour, whilst the fabulous National Trust site of Penrose nearby also serve as must-visit attractions that you simply cannot miss.

About the location

PORTHLEVEN

Helston 3 miles; Penzance 10 miles; Hayle 11 miles; St. Ives 17 miles; Falmouth 17.5 miles.

Porthleven is one of south west Cornwall’s hidden, coastal gems, located near Helston, famous for it's annual Flora Dance Festival. Situated between Lizard Point and Land’s End, Porthleven retains the feel of a traditional Cornish fishing village, enjoying uninterrupted views of the Atlantic Ocean and the beautiful Cornish coastline. The iconic clock tower sits on the harbour entrance and the pubs, shops, cafés and restaurants cluster around the historic picturesque inner harbour, where there is plenty of boating and marine activity. With a warren of streets lined with classic Cornish, granite cottages, an extensive beach manned with lifeguards, the chance for alfresco dining in one of a number of well reviewed restaurants, and crabbing off the harbour, there are plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy, all year round. Porthleven is building a reputation for eating out with a popular food festival established in the spring. Out of season, Porthleven has one of the best surf breaks in the country where you can sit down and get lost for hours watching the energetic surfers riding the waves. There are some fabulous hidden coves along this stretch of coastline, including Praa Sands, Poldhu Cove, and Rinsey, a magical setting for the more energetic. You may have even seen pictures of Porthleven on television, being one of the best spots in the UK for storm watching, with the crashing winter waves often being used as the backdrop to weather forecasts. Walkers will enjoy the South West Coast Path, adventuring west past Rinsey Head with spectacular views, or south across Loe Bar to Penrose Estate with it's National Trust cafe, and on to Gunwalloe Church Cove. Take a trip to the Isles of Scilly by boat or plane and marvel at the display of sub-tropical gardens at the stunning Tresco Abbey. The Eden Project near St. Austell offers an interesting day out. Porthleven is the ideal base for discovering the delights of west Cornwall and the Lizard Peninsula.
