  • "The owner of the property, Helen, is very concerned for the well-being of her guests."

When the weather got very hot during our stay, Helen bought a parasol so that we could continue to use the garden. Many thanks to Helen!

  • "Positives 1."

Great view. 2. Decent local pub with good beer and friendly staff. 3. Easy access to Devizes and to the main neolithic sites in Wiltshire (which is why we were there). Main Negatives - in descending order 1. It's not really a 2 bed property - there is one bedroom and a space at the top of the stairs with a bed in it. The photos conceal this. 2. There is no door or ventilated lobby between the downstairs toilet and the kitchen and living room. Not to everyone's taste (including the local Building Control Section). 3. The kitchen lights are poorly positioned, so that the cooker top is shadowed by the cook.

Thank you for your feedback, I am sorry to learn that you didn't find the cottage satisfactory. I have never had negative feedback before. It is not my intention to mislead guest. You do need to pass through one bedroom to access the main bedroom, I apologise if this is not clear on the website. There is a lobby area between the WC, kitchen and lounge, admittedly there is no fixed door on the toilet there is heavy duty curtain, if I fitted a door it would make access to the toilet difficult. The cottage dates back to the 1800's, the WC has been there prior to me purchasing the cottage so would've met building control back then. With regards to the lights in the kitchen, the property was rewired and new lights installed. There is only one space where the cooker can sit, it was not practical to fit a modern extractor with lights so I opted for a basic extractor instead. The kitchen is a bright and airy space, Your review was disappointing, I have been Holiday Letting for 6 to 7 years, I take great pride in the cottage, I try to communicate with guests during their stay to ensure they are happy as I want people to enjoy their stay. I don't understand why you only marked facilities at 50%, there is a washing machine, tumble dryer, cooker, microwave, fridge freezer, toaster, sofa, log burner, 2 beds one double and a 4ft, lovely size walk in shower, WC and basin, downstairs WC, outside furniture and a beautiful garden, so the facilities are as stated on the website, if there were additional things you wanted/needed then you should have booked somewhere that had those facilities. I'd be interested to know why you only gave 50%. I'm sure you found the cottage to be clean, well equipped and cosy, which is the high standards I aim for. Property Owner

  • "An attractive and well-maintained cottage with good facilities, well sheltered and with good privacy."

When the weather is nice you can enjoy the garden (gardens!) and the beautiful view (sunsets are lovely!). The low ceilings require some attention for anyone around 6 feet but also add to the charm of a authentic cottage. You can drive (reverse back) your car for quick unload / load of you suitcases etc. just around the corner of the cottage (where there used to be a village shop) - and then park your car at the end of The Chantry near the grass area of the Bromham Social Centre (a 5 minute walk). Not exceptional for rented cottages in general, but the kitchen inventory (particularly pans, glassware etc.) could be a bit more robust and a bit more focused on what is useful and necessary for a small temporary household that also wants to cook simple but tasty meals at home occasionally. The bathroom is modern and comfy, just as you would like it to be. The furnishings, especially the decoration and souvenirs, etc. could be tuned down in places, especially if it appears to be personal memorabilia of the owner or family. But the themes of the different rooms are certainly fun since adding some quirkiness! A bedside lamp with a stag head matches the wallpaper perfectly - so put one on the other side of the bed too so we both can enjoy reading! All in all, as a temporary resident you don't want to sit in an empty, clinical house (so well done!)- but on the other hand it is practical to have some "leftover" space here and there to put your own things (books, groceries, etc.) without immediately losing sight of them (so you know where to look when packing again). An empty kitchen cupboard (or two) is just handy! The owner is rightly proud of the property, but could scale down a bit on the number of (repeated) instructions in all kinds of places, because constant reminders sometimes makes you feel a bit too much of a temporary resident - a good, up-to-date & to-the-point welcome folder should suffice for guests able and willing to read & follow instructions. The village of Bromham itself is nice and quiet. It does not have many amenities (The Greyhound is quite a decent pub - and if you take the public footpath at the bottom of Hunts Mead it takes you to the Westbrook Inn within 20 minutes) but is close to Melksham (Devizes, Calne) for your shopping needs. There are several sights nearby, including some from the National Trust (e.g. Avebury) and we had fun looking (hunting) for the White Horses of Wiltshire. The two of us really enjoyed our stay at Hen's Cottage and can recommend it to anyone looking for their own temporary holiday spot where they can both relax and start exploring beautiful Wiltshire. Thank you for having us!

It's a lovely place: spacious, comfortable, thoughtfully equipped and delightfully decorated. Best of all is the location, on the escarpment overlooking the Avon valley, with a wide-angle vista to enjoy from dawn till dusk.

Thank you so much for your very kind feedback. I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay. You are very welcome to return. Property Owner

We were impressed with the cleanliness of the cottage and with how congenial our host was. All the necessities were there for our use, with very clear instructions for appliances, heating and check in/out requirements. We sincerely hope to be back before too long!!
