  • "We had lovely few days in Somerford Cottage, a great base for exploring this beautiful area."

After a warm welcome from the owner who had some good walk recommendations based on the book in the cottage, always good to have a pub half way round. The charming cottage was very comfortable albeit some things a little tired, however, it gets away with it and has everything we needed for a relaxing break away. Would recommend and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Thank you for your feedback. We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay and would love to welcome you back to Somerford Cottage any time in the future. Property Owner

  • "Incredibly dirty facilities and even kitchen equipment including plates, cutlery etc."

Photographs of cobwebs, dead bugs every where, dried food on plates, cutlery, glasses and mugs. We had to wash them over before using them. The kitchen was not stocked sufficiently for a standard kitchen. The bathrooms were incredibly dirty as well. The twin bedroom is only accessible by walking through the second double bedroom. Towels were incredibly thin to the point you could see through them. Paint peeling off everywhere on the table outside.

Dear Alexandra, I am sorry that you were disappointed with your stay. We really tried very hard to accommodate all your requests from the start, from making a double bed out of singles, shower gels, shampoos and conditioner in the bathrooms, early arrival, putting all your food away in the fridge, providing walking routes and maps. I am also sorry that you felt the kitchen was not well equipped, but as soon as you let us know you wanted candles and tin foil we provided them at your request. In terms of cobwebs and insects, whilst we do our best to ensure the cottage is clear as possible from them, due to the age of the property and the season insects are not totally avoidable and cobwebs do appear very quickly. I accept that the dishes must have been put away by the previous guests after a faulty dishwasher rinse where the dishes still had a residue. I am very sorry for that and can understand it would have been distressing to find, and I will make extra sure to check plates etc before arrival. When you describe the kitchen and bathrooms as 'really dirty' it would be helpful to know what is referred to. I do my best to ensure bathrooms and kitchen are clean, so if you have photographs it would be helpful so I can remedy the situation to avoid it happening again as I am not sure what you are referring to. Unfortunately some of the paint is peeling from the garden table, it has been repainted this season, but the unduly frequent rain has meant it has not weathered well. The entire set will be replaced. In terms of the cottage layout, it is described on the website as having a bedroom leading on to the singles bedroom. This is a feature of the cottage we obviously have no control over and is reflected in the price of the cottage. Best wishes, Manor Cottages Property Owner

The host was helpful in suggesting things to do with our small children in the area. There were also lovely touches such as milk/tea/coffee in the kitchen, and shampoo and toothpaste in the bathroom.

  • "Had a lovely Christmas in the cottage, which was warm, cosy and peaceful, and some sweet welcoming touches which were much appreciated."

It was just what we needed, in a lovely village, local shop had everything you could need and The Volunteer was great, lovely staff, extensive gin menu and huge portions! Malmesbury is a very quaint little town, and we enjoyed Chippenham and Cirencester. There were a couple of little things in the cottage that I have fed back to the owners, who were very welcoming and friendly. We do agree with other comments re the proximity of the cottage to the main house, not that the owners were intrusive at all, far from it, we just felt more conscious about disturbing them when coming and going, but that’s just personal feeling. Thank you again for a memorable holiday.

  • "Owner was very nice however the photos do not accurately reflect the condition of the property."

It looks more tired than the pictures show. It is directly on a country lane and is very loud when vehicles go past (even from the upstairs bedrooms).

Thank you for your comments and I am sorry you were not entirely happy with your stay. The owner has said that the property sits on a blind corner of a country lane so traffic can't go too fast but given that it is harvest season, there may be more vehicles passing than usual. The owner would have happily addressed any issues if they were raised with her but got the impression you had a nice stay when you were leaving. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is a gem of calm and well being in the beautiful English countryside!"

Very functional cottage for a family (we were 2 adults and 4 children) and perfectly decorated. The living room is perfect for relaxing and there is a very functional kitchen. Flawless. Similarly, the location is excellent within a few miles of Bath or Oxford for a change of scenery. For those who love the English countryside and its villages, this is ideal. The garden is beautiful even though the proximity of the owners makes it a little impersonal. That's the only downside: the house owners are adjacent to the cottage. The gardener, who takes care of all this, is adorable and very considerate. Without hesitation, we are delighted with this stay. 10 unforgettable days in a beautiful cottage!\ Valery, August 2016
