So convenient for the park and ride in to Bath. Very welcoming owners and villagers. We especially enjoyed the lemon drizzle cake and steak night at the Ring O Bellls in the village. We found the beds very comfy but the sofas unfortunately not. As urban dwellers we appreciated the silence and the peaceful countryside location but found driving round the narrow country lanes that access Priston rather stressful,

The village was beautiful with some lovely walks in the surrounding countryside. The cottage was in a very convenient area with Bath, Bristol and Longleat a short drive away. The cottage was comfortable and clean and the welcome lemon drizzle cake was yummy. A great cottage that we would highly recommend. My daughter wants to go back next year.

  • "Location was good and the fresh cake a nice gesture."

But that's as far as the good gets. The sofas were worn out to the point where you could not sit on them. There was no extractor hood in the kitchen and utensils were not clean. The mattresses were also worn out and left us with back pain. Worst of all the downstairs area had lots of woodlice. Our kids were horrified. Heating was on a timer and completely off the first day (but the owner put it on after we asked). Do not recommend.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this review. All feedback is important to us as it helps us to make improvements going forward. We are sorry that this experience has not been fully positive or that the cleanliness of utensils was not up to our usual high standards. These are always checked between guests and we can only apologise if something was missed on this occasion. We are disappointed to hear that you did not sleep comfortably - our mattresses are not worn out and are of high quality. Most guests, even quite recently, say how comfortable they find them. You will appreciate it is very difficult to choose bedding in holiday accommodation that suits every guests needs. We can assure you that our sofas are not worn out as we recently had new cushions made for them and upholstery work done on them in late April this year. We do not have an extractor fan hood above the cooker, but we do have windows that can be easily opened nearby. We try to remove as many wood lice as possible, but being a 200 year old stone country cottage it is not always possible to eliminate them completely. Again, apologies. They are, however, completely harmless. Although the heating was not turned on for your arrival, there is a wood burner in the property with a limitless supply of wood. However, the heating was turned on for you at the first opportunity and there are also 2 electric fan heaters available in the bedrooms. Cider Press Cottage is such a lovely property in a delightful location, as reflected by the experience of many previous guests, and we're sorry you weren't able to fully enjoy it. Property Owner

The front garden is a sun trap in the evening and would be good to have more seating or a small table. I would update the transport info as no buses from the village! But park and ride only a short drive away. Beautiful touch with the wild flowers and cake.

I've only given 3* though as owner came in whilst we were out to shut a window and we also had to let her and an epc inspector in for about 15 minutes whilst there and with no warning. I value privacy greatly and this marred the overall good experience.

Thank you for your feedback. We do apologise that you were disturbed during your stay. The owner has advised that, unfortunately, she did not receive any warning that the EPC inspector was visiting. This inspection is required to meet all the legal certified requirements of running a holiday cottage. She is also sorry that you were upset that the window was closed. With rain and stormy weather in the forecast and you not being in the Cottage, she wanted to avoid rain damage which I hope you can understand. .... but if I were to be super critical, I’d say a mirror downstairs would reflect some light into the lounge and be of use as a final self check before you go out the front door. GENERAL FEEDBACK TO SYKES - Perhaps you would explain why one can’t get into the properties until 4pm because of thorough cleaning needed to be done by the proprietor (re: Covid), when guests still have to leave at 10am, now having to remove bedding and thoroughly clean (re: Covid). Prices have gone up, one gets less time at the property and the customer is doing the work! When I stay in an hotel I don’t have to take off my bedding when I leave!

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate your comments regarding the lighting and have take this into account. We do our best to accomodate an early check-in time, but sometimes this is not always possible when we have a larger amount of properties to turn over. We kindly ask that you could remove the bedding in order to keep our housekeepers safe. If you are unable to, that is not a problem at all. Property Owner

We particularly enjoyed the wood burning stove and the grounds. My son loved playing in the stream and feeding the donkeys. Simon and his wife have a beautiful home! Feel free to publish this feedback. Below is a note to the owner. One note to the owner who may not be aware. There seems to be a slight woodlouse issue (could be the time of year?). During the night, there were hundreds on the wooden table outside and the external walls and door. Some made their way inside the house. Not a massive issue for us but they might freak some people out to think about the possibility of one crawling over them at night. We did find a couple on the bed!

The weather was rubbish for us (didn't stop us going out on long walks) but snuggling up in the evening with a lump of lemon drizzle and the wood burner going was a very pleasant way to dry off. Very friendly and considerate owners who, on introduction, offered some valuable advice about the area for us and our 2 kids. The Ring O' Bells pub is well worth a visit for a meal, friendly staff and good food. The cottage is roughly a 40 minute drive from Longleat which was a great day out for us and the kids. • "This was by far the best place we stayed at during our trip."

Our hosts were delightful, considerate and welcoming. The property actually exceeded our expectations as did the village itself. Lucy greeted us sympathetically with freshly baked flapjacks (clearly her specialty) which was so very much appreciated after an unexpectedly long trip from London. We loved the donkeys braying, and the horses passing on their way into the village from the front door. We were drawn into Ring of Bells with their great food, beer, scrumpy and easy conversation. The people of the village are welcoming and patient even when explaining the intricacies of cricket which was a delight to watch behind the church (also worth a stop) on the pitch. We enjoyed many walks in the area, touring Bath, and seeing stone circles. It is an enchanting place.\ We pretty much loved everything, however it was the peace that descended onto the village which seemed to permeate through to our bones. \ The property is very comfortable and very well cared for. An absolutely outstanding property.\ Moira Schmidt, June 2016\

The property

Cider Press Cottage is an absolute gem of a holiday property and we're delighted to see it undergo a total revamp in early 2015, making it a stylish, spacious country retreat about 10 - 15 mins from the centre of Bath.

Built in the 18th century and situated in the grounds of the owners beautiful home, this classic little cottage is every inch the rural retreat.

The cottage is detached yet literally just moments from open countryside, with a lovely stroll down the lane to the village and it's local pub, The Ring O'Bells.

Each time we visit this cottage we love it even more, for so many different reasons, and the recent update has given it a real lift.

Internally the light colours along with the tasteful furniture give it a real contemporary feel, while all the old period features ensure the charm and character remain within this charming bolt hole.

The location of the property is absolutely ideal, a short drive into Bath city centre or a short walk deep into the countryside give this an appeal which sets it apart from so many cottages.

This is an absolute belter!
