• "Greyhound Barn is a lovely property with a great space for large groups set in a lovely area."

  It could do with a bit of TLC with decor and furnishings etc. The fixtures and fittings, such as showers could do with upgrading. Having said that, we had a wonderful time and would happily go back.

• "For small children the lack of outdoor space would be disappointing ."

  The teenagers loved the upstairs lounge.It has a good location for nearby attractions and local pub .The closeness to busy road was worrying for dogs and children.We were surprised by proximity of other buildings.Furniture and fixtures looked a little tired compared to other properties we have rented.Howerever, overall we enjoyed our stay and have no real complaints Thank you

• "We had a brilliant family reunion week at Greyhound Barn."

  14 of us enjoyed the comfortable beds, attractive living spaces (including the snooker table) and well stocked kitchen. It's great when a large property actually has huge pots and pans for cooking up meals for all! Fridge and freezer space was also generous. The owner gave us valuable advice about the road closure and a plumbing problem was quickly addressed. The surrounding countryside gave us plenty to do. A very happy week for our family!

• "The size of the property was great for our large family group."

  The kitchen was well stocked and the living and dining areas were ideal. We were impressed with the welcome treats. Some of the bathrooms had minor problems with leaking showers but we all had a great weekend.

• "Accommodation was ideal for our group however there were a few issues."

  The main concern was the showers. Clear instructions were given that they may take a while to heat however some rooms had problems - Pheasant was too hot to get in, Hare was extremely hot and the extractor fan did not work resulting in a lot of stream, Owl the shower tray filled very quickly and leaked onto the floor, Otter and Squirrel also extremely hot showers resulting in a lot of steam. The result of all the steam on Sunday morning was that the fire alarm went off. The owner was quick to come round and said that it was probably due to the steam. A couple of other hiccups the light in Fox shower was a bit unreliable would not always turn on, only one plug socket seemed to work. The downstairs living room fire door handle not very secure it came off a couple of times. The details given re what to bring said there will be basic cleaning supplies and we would need to bring our own. There were a few cloths but no washing up liquid or cleaner for our use on arrival The starter pack of dishwasher tablets consisted of 1 tablet. Maybe it would be better to say no cleaning materials.

  Thank you for your feedback on Greyhound Barn, we have been busy reviewing our guests comments and we would like to let you know that we have made changes based on your feedback All of the showers have been replaced so they no longer have temperature control issues, this in turn has sorted all the steam issues. We have also addressed the electrical problems you mentioned, we have replaced light fittings and plug sockets to ensure they are all working. We have replaced several doors and door handles so they are now all secure. The welcome pack has been changed to include more basic cleaning supplies. We have also taken extra steps and replaced a few appliances wand generally updated the property. We are very sorry that you experienced a few issues but we hope that your stay was otherwise enjoyable and that you had a great time! Property Owner

• "The cottage is in a lovely village and has good facilities."

  However it was not very well presented. We found a used face mask in the accessible bedroom and a used towel left behind the door in “owl” room. The decor was tired and some showers needing a deep clean.

• "We felt that the property was very basic and a bit tired."

  We did not feel it had been cleaned thoroughly Some of the showers had mould around the bottom and one of the showers leaked badly. There was a broken door handle on one of the en-suites. There were cigarette butts at the top of the steps outside the games room which had not been swept up - none of us smoke In the bedroom we used there was an old face mask on the floor It served its purpose enabling our family to get together and we had a good time despite the limitations of the property We did not think it was value for money (2 night stay)

• "The barn is a lovely old property but could really do with a revamp."

  Showers are very small and leak.They are also quite shabby.The tap in the upper kitchen rid jot turn off and a few door handles are loose. My major concern is some of the patio furniture which Is broken and needs tipping and quite dangerous. The barn is in great location and with a little bit of work is a great location for a large party.

• "Generally we were very happy with our stay at Greyhound Barn."

  Just a couple of comments. It was surprising to find so few wine glasses for a property for 16 people. plenty of other glasses, but only about 6 wine glasses. The dining room chairs needed re-gluing to firm them up. Otherwise it was a well stock kitchen, and delighted to have in induction range cooker. The leisure facilities upstairs were excellent and a lot of fun was had.

• "As previous holiday makers have said the cottage is in a great location, however we had several issues with the cottage that were shared with the owner."

  Owl room, the mattress was old and any movement causes noise and disruption for either person to sleep. The hot tap on sink loose and rotating in its socket and the toilet seat was loose. Otter room, the shower leaked from below tray so unusable and hair in sink plug. Badger room, loose electrical socket by bed, the shower cubicle doors do not close and the shower sealant is stained and there was hair in the sink plug. Fox room, theTV in the room was on the opposite side to the aerial so unusable as TV as owner did not have an aerial lead long enough to reach it. Courtyard, the cushions for chairs around the table were stored in a broken plastic outdoor storage box which was flooded so cushions wet and mouldy. The plastic rattan on base of the sofa was broken and the umbrella shade was on the floor and covered with algae. Kitchen, the bottom of one of the two freezer doors was broken so would not open. Games room, the TV remotes did not work. The property had dust behind and under most objects/pieces of furniture. Paintwork was shabby and the small grass area in the garden/courtyard was overgrown. All the ensuite bathrooms had no windows and not one of them had a functioning extractor fan so consequently all a bit musty and damp feeling and bath mats were fraying at the edges. We reported the issues to Sykes and the owner and have been told that the issues we raised have been addressed however we would not return to this property.

We would not want anyone to experience this. A plumber has been in and replaced the hot tap and toilet seat, they have also addressed any other plumbing issues and replaced all the showers and sorted the doors that didn't close properly. We have also addressed any electrical issues and replaced the plug sockets, and lights that were not working. We have given the property a good overhaul and a deep clean to ring it back up to its usual standards of cleanliness, last year was a super busy year with almost consistent back to back bookings throughout the year. WE have ensured we have a large DVD collection and all TVs in the bedrooms are able to play DVDs , not all are connected to the aerial as we want to reduce the amount of wires and inconvenience of weirdly placed TVs, We do however have incredibly fast Wi-Fi that will allow you to stream anything online! We have also removed the damaged furniture outside and made it a more pleasant area. for our guests to relax! We have also replaced the fridge with a new one and provided batteries in-case the remotes die for future guests. Again we do apologise that your stay was not to our usual standards but we do value your feedback and have acted upon it. Property Owner

• "Greyhound cottage was excellent accommodation for our large party, generously proportioned property with nice bedrooms and a well equipped kitchen."

  Very nice outdoor space to sit in the sunshine. Lots of off road parking too. There were some niggles however, a few of the shower trays leaked and the shower doors did not close on one cubicle. The floor in one shower room had a hole where a foot had gone through the linoleum, presumably as a consequence of the wetness affecting the boards underneath. ( photo of this available if required) A wall plug was loose on one bedroom wall and a pull switch was loose in another shower. However we had a fabulous stay, the barn was clean and comfortable and we would stay again if party numbers so dictated.

• "Fantastic property which was perfect for our extended family to stay at for our sons wedding."

  Comfortably accommodated 16 and never felt like we were on top of each other. Grand kids loved Harry the cat just watch when you go out that he hasn’t snuggled down somewhere. Just one suggestion maybe some hand soap and a few cleaning materials would be helpful especially if like us we were only there for 2 nights. Overall we would highly recommend

• "14 of us had a very pleasant stay at Greyhound Barn!"

  After 2 years of not being able to meet up and then our booked property being taken out of commission by the owners last December it was a relief to find a property large enough for us all with en-suite rooms. We enjoyed the large lounge upstairs for the whole group to meet up in the evenings and also the cosy front lounge to relax in. Bed linen and towels fresh although a couple of bath mats needed replacement. Although clean to the eye a bit of deeper cleaning under beds and furniture moving might not go amiss. More clarification about refuse disposal would help as, coming from different authorities where rules vary, it seemed seemed out of date. An extra bin for recyclables inside would be helpful. A good location with good walks and The Village Pub for a meal out so accessible with very pleasant staff who were mega helpful. Although there is an outdoor area with rattan furniture there is no garden as such. We were able to sensibly park 7 cars on the property with no problem. Would we go again........definitely!

• "This was an ideal property for our large family group of 12 ( 3 generations with ages 17 months to 74 years)."

  The first floor lounge with games tables proved especially popular. Plenty of bedrooms with all of them en-suite. A couple of showers were rather slow to drain meaning care had to be taken to avoid overflowing onto the floor. The kitchen is very generously equipped with plenty of cutlery, crockery and best of all several very large saucepans. Plenty of fridge and freezer space. There are two fridges in the kitchen plus a smaller one in the first floor kitchenette. However only one small empty double wall cupboard which was insufficient for all our grocery provisions. Also we found no instructions for operating the cooker so there was some frustration involving trial and error when using the hob. However overall everyone agreed that Greyhound Barn provided perfect accommodation for our family get together, located in a beautiful part of the country.

  This time the general standard was very much improved and a huge effort had been made to improve the showers, renew bedding and freshen the paintwork and decor throughout. Generous heating and hot water and plenty of living space for everyone. The kitchen is quite limited when catering for a large group. Phone signal is very weak, but wifi worked in most areas of the house.

• "Lack of communication by both Sykes and the owners exacerbated small problems and made them difficulties."

  This was a pity as the administrator very kindly did rearrange beds for us. However, no one gave us the key code so we were forced to leave the house unlocked. This despite many emails and calls to Sykes, the administrator and the owners. Sykes just kept resending their same standard email telling us to get the code from the owner. .... The heating was broken and while we understand the present situation makes it impossible to get repairs done quickly we were promised more heaters but it took more than a day and many phone calls to get just one. Most of our bedrooms and bathrooms were cold. It sounds picky but if you are promised dish washer tablets and there are none and nowhere to buy any ...hand washing for nine people is no one's favourite holiday task. 3 finally arrived with the heater. This was our group's second stay at The Greyhound Barn and we appreciated the improvements but we can't risk another.

Sometimes, these can go to the junk mail in the inbox but we always make sure that Customers have the code before their trip starts The previous Customers had caused some damage to the shower. We did fix this as soon as we knew about it however we didn’t know it was leaking. This has been rectified now by the plumber We do pay to get all the rubbish recycled at the property. We have two bins that are labelled at the property for Customers to use. We did have a problem with the underfloor heating before your stay. This has now been fixed but we did provide adequate heating for your stay to compensate for this There should have been a small supply of dishwasher tablets for you as a starter pack, I am sorry these weren’t available for you. This was an oversight Once again, thank you for your comments regarding the property. We appreciate you taking the time to complete this for us Property Owner

• "The Greyhound barn is in a great place."

  However there are significant problems with the plumbing, showers and bath leaking onto the floor in several rooms. I have written separately to the owner/admin team highlighting problems that we identified as needing attention. There may be other problems. I would not recommend staying at this property to anyone else until these issues have been addressed

• "The cottage and facilities were perfect for the holiday we wanted, but had a more basic and institutional feel than we expected from the description and photos."

  In particular the long ground floor corridor with bedrooms off it seemed clinical. Whilst this was okay for us, it would have been disappointing for someone looking for a rural Cotswold cottage. The only issue experienced that impacted our enjoyment was the unreliable internet connection, with the router regularly crashing. This combined with a lack of phone reception caused communication issues. To be clear, we had a very enjoyable holiday and the location and building suited our needs perfectly.

• "We had been to the Greyhound Barn before, so we knew what to expect."

  Lovely big open house with loads of space for a big party. The fact that every room has its own en-suite is a great asset. The owners were attentive and a lovely welcome pack was much appreciated, the home made scones were delicious. The only small criticism we had was that a couple of the beds had seen better days and were a bit uncomfortable for a couple of our party. We probably wont be back next year but definitely look to come again in the future.

Only other comments are that it could do with a bit of an update and refreshing, overall this didn't affect our visit. I would highly recommend Greyhound Barn for large parties.

  The children loved the size of the property and it was great to have 2 separately located living rooms and a really large kitchen/dining area meaning everyone had their own space when required. My only comments would be some of the decor could do with updating, as could the en-suite/wetrooms which didn't really have good enough drainage where no self-contained cubicles were fitted. Overall this didn't affect our enjoyment of the property and i'd highly recommend for large parties looking for a really spacious property. We had 14 people in our party and the house was far from crowded due to the size and space available.

  Our three generation gathering enjoyed the space offered inside for the children to run around and our dining arrangement was perfect. We ate inhouse all but one night. The owners were particularly obliging, and it was a pleasure talking to them. Thank you to Sykes once again for excellent service.

• "Great value for money; a little shabby in places but this property is substantially cheaper than others of its size in the area."

  We booked Greyhound Barn for a family celebration and stayed two nights. There was plenty of room for 15 people and it was well equipped. The kitchen was a little small for cooking shared family meals but there was plenty of fridge and freezer space and enough room for us all to eat together. The large upstairs lounge was comfortable and had enough seating for everyone. The owners, who live next door were very friendly and helpful and the welcome basket was a lovely touch. It was too cold to use the patio area for sitting or eating outside but this would be lovely in Summer. There was enough parking space on the property for 5 cars and a motorbike. Nice pub along the road but the drinks were pricey. I would recommend this property for large gatherings and good value for money as long as you are not expecting high end fittings.

• "The whole week was very good."

  We had a couples weekend and then a group of guys for Cheltenham races. Everyone was very impressed with the space we all had, en-suite in every room and the huge living area upstairs for us all to relax. The kitchen facilities were up to the standard of our resident chef and the welcome pack was lovely, especially the home made lemon drizzle cake!!! The owner came round early on the Saturday morning to welcome us and assure us that any problems would be taken care of quickly, but no need as all was well. Will definitely like to return.

• "Our second visit for a family weekend so we knew what to expect and we weren't disappointed."

  The house was warm and friendly and provided everything we needed (except, perhaps, good wifi) for a successful stay. We had a memorable meal at the Village Pub across the road. Great walks from the door which we did in the snow on a beautiful day. Highly recommended.

• "The welcome hamper was very much appreciated."

  Owner knew it was my 70th birthday celebration and included a couple of bottles of 'fizz' along with basics such as tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits on the dining table for us. Both tables were set in festive red and the Christmas decorations added a holiday touch.

  The spacious lounge and kitchen/diner were excellent and we had everything we needed with the exception of weak mobile phone connections. This is obviously beyond the control of the owners. We would definitely recommend it to friends.

• "We had a warm and friendly welcome from the owner, also a very generous welcome hamper, thank you!"

  However, we were told his two family members were available next door should we need anything. We made several attempts to speak to them about a couple of minor issues but no answer despite cars present and lights on. Communal areas are very good. Large kitchen area that easily sat 12, big, comfortable sitting room. The kitchen is very well equipped. En suite bedrooms, unfortunately, were poor. Bedding is tired, flat duvets and pillows we felt were very old. One of our party stripped her bed on departure day to find a very badly stained duvet. We would suggest all bedding needs replacing. The ensuits are extremely small and utilitarian. Only fairly small people could get into the showers and the sinks are tiny. The large bathrooms did help however. There is also a constant very unpleasant smell coming through the sinks and loos, less so in the bedrooms when ensuit doors are closed. Parking was a bit of a challenge! An 8 bedroom house is clearly designed for large groups therefore a number of cars are likely to arrive. Proximity to Cirencester is good and the town lovely, well worth a visit.

• "As a returning customer, I was pleased to find that Wifi was working much better than last year."

  I was also happy that they have installed a washing machine, very useful. However, the house was not as clean as last year sadly, especially the lounge upstairs and the cutlery tray in the kitchen. That was a bit disapointing. Also in the Fox room, where I slept, the bed is very uncomfortable, sort of tilting to the edge, which it was not doing in my previous stay. It needs sorting. We are very likely to come again, certainly if the bed situation is sorted. The other guests were happy with their rooms. The redistribution of the seating works well too.

• "The only negative was the WIFI."

  It was a very poor connection and extremely sporadic as regards connecting at all. Some of the housemates had children at home whom they wanted to contact via mail etc but were unable . With the large house, it is likely that there will be other parties with this predicament or work pressures to keep in contact with important issues. . Wifi should be like having a kettle these days - an absolute basic requirement. Apart from this - GB was great !

• "This huge property is a wonderful place for a large party to enjoy time together without being in each other’s way."

  It is roomy, well equipped and clean. Each of the 8 bedrooms is en suite, some with wet rooms, others with showers plus an extra bathroom with a bath. The owners who live in the farmhouse next door are lovely people who were most helpful. Barnsley (Glos) is easy to find and there are lots of attractions and places to see within easy reach. Cirencester is close by with its variety of shops and there is a petrol station and shop just down the hill and an excellent pub in the Village. It is a rural area so do take insect deterrent and a fly swatter.

• "We enjoyed a family holiday at Greyhound Barn."

  There were 13 of us ranging from 19 months to 72 and the property accommodated us all brilliantly. It's a great spot for exploring the area and there's plenty to do locally within a half hour drive. The outside area was good for playing and relaxing for all ages and we were lucky enough to have great weather so ate outside a lot too. There were a few minor niggles with the property but nothing to stop us having a wonderful holiday and nothing that can't be rectified very easily. The owners were very friendly and helpful and sorted out an issue we had with a shower immediately which was great. We'd certainly recommend it as a holiday destination!

• "This was ideal accommodation for our walking group of 8 'mature' couples."

  The property is well located on the edge of the Cotswolds, very well equipped and spacious. The en suite bedrooms provide independence and privacy, with the additional downstairs bathroom (and upstairs toilet) being a real bonus. The kitchen / dining area enabled us to eat together when we wanted to, or to do our own thing at other times. The huge lounge on the first floor was an excellent place to spend the evenings after a day's walking or after a meal out; the adjacent kitchenette is also very useful, reducing the need to go downstairs for drinks etc. We were very fortunate with the weather so we were able to also make use of the outside area, which is very private and just off the kitchen. We didn't use the smaller downstairs sitting room so much, but it proved useful when setting off on a walk or when returning. As in many rural areas, the mobile phone signal strength in the village is very weak, and with so many people attempting to access the broadband wi-fi simultaneously, that can also be a challenge. Overall, a property with many commendable features.

• "This was a fabulous place for a large group of people."

  We were amazed at the size of the property, it seemed to go on and on! Every bedroom had it's own reasonably sized shower room and in addition there was an extra bathroom on the ground floor and WC on the top floor. We had great weather during our stay so spent most of the time in the kitchen/diner which has doors leading straight out to a nice secluded area which is gated so is safe for children / dogs to run around in. We found the kitchen had plenty of equipment for all 16 of us though some of it took some finding! Two fridges was a godsend. The owners live next door and were very welcoming, we appreciated the freshly laid eggs and home made cake left out for our arrival. The only downside for some of our party was that the wifi was rather patchy (although there were some parts of the house where a fairly good signal could be obtained) and because of the great weather some of the bedrooms were rather hot. We would definitely visit again

• "Excellent welcome."

  We hired it for the family at Christmas. The house was decorated with fairy lights, two large well-decorated Christmas trees, and presents were provided for both children and adults under the tree in the main living room. The table was nicely laid up in the kitchen. Very warm, plenty of space and lovely cosy atmosphere in the main living room.

• "We had a very enjoyable weekend but there was on thing which may stop us from booking there again."

  Two of the beds needed new mattresses and were extremely uncomfortable. Although we were only there for two nights, this was a problem and caused sore backs! One of our party also complained about a damp smell in the wet room. The kitchen was small and not particularly well equipped for a property of this size. There was no washing up liquid and this was a bit of a nuisance but easily remedied the next day. There was a lovely welcome "hamper" when we arrived, including a delicious home made Yule log, and the property had been decorated with Christmas trees etc All of this was really appreciated and gave us a lovely warm welcome. The owner lived next door and he was very friendly and helpful. Given how hard it is to find a property with 8 bedrooms all ensuite and the fact that it was reasonably priced, cosy and comfortable (apart form the beds mentioned!) it was very good value for money. Close to Cirencester and Gloucester. I hope the bed problem can be sorted out. If I am assured that it is, I think we will book again.

• "Fantastic cottage in an excellent location for exploring the Cotswolds."

  The pictures advertising the property don't do it justice as it was far better than expected when we arrived. The fact that each bedroom was en-suite in addition to a house bathroom and house toilet was most welcomed when everyone was getting ready for days out. A well equipped kitchen made food and drinks preparation very easy. There was a BBQ on site for a sunny afternoon outdoor meal and local eatery within 100 yards to give the chef well earned rest too! Days out to Blenheim, Bourton on the water and an outdoor swim in Cirencester were the pick of our week. Thanks for a fab week!

(As a sidenote, our only minor criticism is that there was not enough hand soap or toilet paper - it's not a big deal, but in a property so beautiful, and so well-maintained, we thought you would like to know).

• "Fabulous place for a large family holiday."

  The en-suite rooms were all very comfortable and the large kitchen/dining room and lounge gave us plenty of relaxing space. Barnsley itself is a pretty Cotswolds village close to the other lovely villages of Bibury and Burford. We had a delicious Sunday lunch at the Tunnel View Inn, just the other side of Cirencester, which we would thoroughly recommend. All in all a lovely place to stay and would recommend Greyhound Barn if you are a large group of family or friends.
