  • "Apart from the very steep staircase which was highlighted the cottage was absolutely beautiful."

Some of the taps on the wash basins were loose and they need tightening up. Also, the controls on the shower were extremely stiff and hard to turn on. The gas cooker did go out on two occasions but then I managed to get it to work properly. The host was extremely generous with all the little things that she had left and great care had been taken to make our stay as good as it could possibly have been. Just some general maintenance would’ve made it even better

Thank you, glad you enjoyed your stay. Taps all fixed, not sure what had happened there. Property Owner

Small secure garden for our dog and garden furniture available to let us enjoy a BBQ. The only issue is the very steep staircase to the first floor which will restrict access for less mobile people. Will revisit again if in the area.

Thank you for your feedback, you were very lucky with the weather and able to use the garden. The staircase is steep but we gs et highlighted this in the listing Property Owner

Might be worth adding to the description that the parking space for the cottage is on Parragate, rather than Parragate Road, as we had slight difficulty locating it.

Very clean. Comfortable beds. Great shower. Smart TV and good WiFi. Well equipped kitchen. Fantastic completely secure dog proof garden- even for our escapologist!! Nice welcome pack. Bread. Milk etc. If only all self catering cottages were like this! Very quiet. We slept better here than at home!! The house is nice and cool in the hot weather. Only 5 minutes from the town centre. You could actually stay here without a car. Cinderford looks a little rundown BUT we found the locals friendly. Some great takeaways and independent shops. The forest of Dean has some great walks. We will return next year if we can. We love coming here. A small caveat that might be important to you. The stairs are steep( this is mentioned in the description). People with limited mobility WILL struggle. My parents, who are in their 80's, would never be able to get upstairs. A small point but worth mentioning.

Best cottage by far in the Forest. Accessible. Central to walking. LDL within easy walking distance. Easy parking. Comfortable. Character. Fully equipped. Helpful owners nearby. I find the shower tap a bit difficult to grip and twist but the shower is great. The local restaurants are limited but we liked the Severn Bore Inn at Westbury. We took a few wrong turns in the Forest on our long walks, even with map and compass, so care is needed. Safe paths and easy walking though, even if muddy in places.

However, it was well worth finding! We thought the cottage was delightful, with all the modern conveniences whilst retaining its historic character. The enclosed garden & double parking space was especially appreciated and Lidl just a 5 minute walk away was a bonus. The Forest is literally a couple of minutes walk up the road which was very handy for walking the dog. Lidl just two minutes up the road or through the town for Tesco. Lots of lovely walks a short drive away, we walked over 60 miles in total - fab! Not much choice within easy walking distance for a bite to eat which was surprising considering the size of Cinderford, the Curry Leaf was excellent, the White Hart Inn was good but a bit more of a hike especially in the dark and cold but this should not be seen as a negative reflection on the cottage but means you may need to think ahead whether you want to cater for your own meals or prefer to eat out. The chippy at the top.of the town was very good and extremely generous portions. Thanks for a lovely stay.

  • "This was the second stay in 2 years."

We could see that the owner had acted on our previous suggestion to replace the old TV and we really appreciated it because the weather wasn't great. My partner took frying pans and kitchen knives but didn't need them as everything was top notch- most people don't think to provide good kitchenware but Nicola gets bonus points for everything. The bedrooms were cool and comfortable and the shower was lovely. Many thanks for the thoughtful welcome pack. The washing machine, and clothes line were an absolute bonus as well as the totally enclosed yard for our dog. It was nice to be near a supermarket and some good takeaways. It was really great to have safe parking for 2 vehicles. Since last year I have developed a knee problem which I didn't think was much of an issue but the 5 steps down to the property that have no hand rail and the very steep, narrow stairs to the bedrooms and upstairs toilet and bathroom mean that we may not be staying again. If you are young, fit and able it won't be an issue but anyone with creaky knees or hips might struggle. The only suggestion we have this year is another single chair for the 4th person staying as it's nice to spread out a bit when watching TV.

Everything within the property had been thought of to make this a home from home. The level of cleanliness and décor was exceptional for a holiday rented property, absolutely top marks. The beds were very comfortable and laid with what appeared to to be new excellent quality linin and more than adequate duvets and pillows. In the lounge we found the armchair and sofa to be not as supportive for our backs as we were used to and therefore not to our liking, but accept others may not have a problem with them. The enclosed garden was a safe environment for my dog, which had been first and foremost in my mind when booking. The owner was in touch before we arrived, and the welcome pack was excellent. As our stay was in December, we were delighted to find the Cottage looking festive with Christmas tree and other decorations - it felt so cosy with the Christmas lights - especially with the cold snap outside! Lovely that the owner messaged us when we had an unexpected snowfall to check we were ok. The cottage was very clean and well equipped with everything you may need - plus 'extras' such as fresh milk, bread, biscuits, homemade marmalade, toiletries, little bits you may need in cupboards. Comfy beds, powerful shower and feels very peaceful and private while being close to town - Lidl only a minute's walk away. Not too far to walk to the woods with our doggie - was great as we didn't have the car for most of our stay. Also, dog bowls, blanket provided means less to take with you and self enclosed garden is ideal for letting dog out. As mentioned in description, stairs can be challenging but we managed to master the 'sideways' walk after a while and it all adds to the quaintness - Would certainly return if we need a refuge again. :)

It really is a home from home and is clearly well cared for, you immediately feel relaxed and able to enjoy your holiday. The owner has spent a lot of time and effort in thinking of all the home comforts so that when we come again next year we know our dog Harry will be safe and happy in the garden-most people forget that small dogs can get under gates or through small holes but this garden is totally safe and it is great to open the door knowing he can be off-lead and free. We have everything we need here and we can't thank the owner enough. A big thank you for the welcome gifts-these have been the most helpful ever. Top marks for cleanliness and comfort. The kitchen is really well equipped so if you want to cook there are pans and dishes for every need. The twin single bed room is very dark and cool and we slept really well. Really loved the shower. Radio much appreciated as was the dining room with table and chairs. Good Butchers, Bakery, Charity shops, takeaways on your doorstep. Very minor point-TV is old-school so you can't stream or screen-cast from your phone and the BT box makes the tv buzz if you are watching programmes from it. The surrounding area was spectacular - we walked 8-10miles each day in the Forest of Dean and along the River Wye. We enjoyed trips around Goodrich Castle & Tintern Abbey - both dog friendly, and can highly recommend the Sunday roast at the Dog & Muffler pub & Angels Fish & Chips takeaway at the top of town. Nicola was extremely accommodating and helpful.

25 Parragate Road was one of the cleanest and most comfortable of the cottages we have stayed in so far. The double room had a very comfortable double size bed. Cosy sitting room with large TV and BT youview box. Ample sized dining room and table with plenty of seating area. Good enclosed garden with a seating area outside. A nice little suntrap when the sun is shining. Location of cottage is great you can get into the Forest of Dean within 10 minutes as the town of Cinderford is the gateway into the Forest which has so many very beautiful walks and lots of things to see and do. You can get anywhere very easy from Cinderford. No distance across the border into Monmouthshire. One hours drive to the Cotswolds. We were very pleased when we arrived at this spotlessly clean cottage. This proved to be one of the best equipped cottages we have stayed at. Nicola, the owner, contacted us beforehand and gave us contact details for any problems, which there weren't. On arrival we found bread, milk, butter, homemade marmalade and fruit as well as flowers in each room. There was ample tea and coffee for our stay as well as basics such as loo rolls and kitchen roll and logs for the fire if we had needed them. Central heating was available and used for chilly mornings. This really was a home from home meaning that when we arrived we did not have to immediately go shopping, as we planned to have an evening meal out. We would wholeheartedly recommend this cottage for the Forest of Dean area, with or without dogs.
