  • "Really enjoyed our stay, lots of lovely walks in the Forest of Dean."

Hot tub was wonderful at the end of the day. Owners Jeremy and Becky were really friendly.

  • "We had a lovely 3 night stay at the deer."

The bed and sofa were super comfortable. The hot tub was perfect too! We had our greyhound along too and he loved it. The only thing I would say to be improved is that we found there to not be enough hooks inside for hanging the towels and coats. Overall it was a lovely stay- thank you!

Thank you Hannah we are so pleased you had a good stay with us (hooks are now on order ) Jeremy & Becky Property Owner

  • "We experienced several issues during our stay and the owner was most helpful in addressing them."

I made some suggestions re: further improvements and I am sure that these will be followed up very soon. With regard to the property description, we feel that the open plan living area should be described as very small and, due to the spiral staircase and the access from the car parking area, it should be classed as unsuitable for anyone with mobility issues. We thoroughly enjoyed the location with car access to the top of Blakeney Hill and wonderful views. We also fell in love with the forest area and will return, probably to a different area of the forest.

  • "Fantastic week away, cute cottage with hot tub, views were beautiful with several gorgeous spots to walk and enjoy with our puppy."

The owners were very welcoming and friendly. The use of the apple orchard our puppy loved. Will certainly be returning in future.

Thank you we are so glad you enjoyed your stay, we look forward to to seeing you and Hugo again soon Jeremy & Becky Property Owner

  • "We have just returned from the best 3 nights away at The Deer."

Absolute gem of a place, beautifully furnished, stunning location and with the most amazing sun trap of a garden! Jeremy was the nicest host, nothing was too much! We also massively appreciated the orchard area (having travelled with our 2 dogs) to let them run around and have a leg stretch! Although the woodland walks in the Forest of Dean are only a 10 minute walk away! We will definitely return!

  • "As soon as we arrived at The Deer we felt like we were at home."

The cottage was extremely clean and tidy upon arrival and the finishing touches to the cottage add that extra homely feel. There was a lovely welcome message for us and a book with helpful information to help us during our stay. There was plenty of tea and coffee and milk for us to have during our stay. We had everything we needed and the towels and bedding were super soft too! The decking area and hot tub were wonderful both daytime and evening. Jeremy and Becky were lovely hosts too. They introduced themselves, said hello and made sure we had everything we needed - a lovely touch. One thing we will say, and it is only minor, is that the local pub that is listed does no longer serve food so you have to travel a little further out (only about a mile) to eat at a pub, but this did not stop us from having a good time. You will not struggle to find local walks though! We enjoyed a sculpture walk in the Forest of Dean (there were plenty more routes too!) and a walk through puzzlewood. We could easily have stayed longer and walked many more routes! Overall a wonderful weekend at the deer for our wedding anniversary, and we will certainly recommend to others!

Thank you for your lovely comments, we look forward to seeing you again Jeremy & Becky Property Owner

  • "We had the pleasure of staying at The Deer for 4 nights last week with our 6 month old puppy."

We all settled in well, especially our pup, she loved it, very cosy and homely and she wasn't anxious at all! We met Jeremy a couple of times in passing and he was very friendly and accommodating and let us know of some local knowledge about an event down at the docks! The bed was comfy and the layout/decor of the cottage is lovely, there is also everything you could need for a self catering stay away (except food obviously!), the local ciders on arrival were a welcomed treat after a day of travelling! It's well situated with some walks and viewing areas on the doorstep but also only a short drive for most places to visit. There's a lovely viewing area up the (steep) hill next to the cottage in an orchard with a bench, fire pit, swing and trampoline. The hot tub was amazing after a long day walking and there are several nice dog friendly pubs in the area (we particularly liked "The Globe"). 100% recommend to others! Couple of bits of feedback that we noticed during the week that we would have preferred: - A lighter tog quilt available - we found the one on the bed very warm so ended up taking it out and using the sheet alone, but then got a little cold - we're probably just fussy though! - A blind over the windows on the front door - one morning the pup thought the daylight at 4am was a queue to get up

Thank you for your wonderful feedback , we have fitted the blind and hope we see you again soon Jeremy & Becky Property Owner

Jeremy and Becky were the kindest hosts we have ever had, absolutely went above and beyond when we had car difficulties. They were also very generous in sharing their lovely orchard space which our dogs were thrilled to play in while we enjoyed the beautiful views. Easy on foot access to a peaceful part of the forest.

  • "We had a fantastic 4 nights staying at the Deer."

We came in search of Wild Boar and were not disappointed. We saw them on 3 separate evenings and very nearby. Mission success! There were many other beautiful places to visit, many of them listed in a handy welcome pack at the accommodation. We spent hours wandering through ancient forest. As an absolute bonus the Deer was cosy and well presented and had everything we needed. Thank you, Jeremy, for making us feel so welcome, we had a blissful stay.
