  • "An interesting cottage in pleasantly secluded and peaceful area, very well situated for our week exploring the Cotswold Way."

We timed our visit well, enjoying a full dry week, with plenty of sunshine and even some heat!!

We are so pleased to hear how much you enjoyed your stay with us and we hope you made the most of the things to do in the area. We will love to welcome you again for another stay with us soon. • "Not Clean, not best customers service and not dog friendly."

It was a last minute booking, so we didn’t investigate thoroughly. Reading some reviews afterwards, I don’t think we would be willing to spend over £200 a night in a place that needs a proper deep clean! I mean proper deep clean! At first glance it looks ok, but look at your toilet seat before you sit down or on your glass before you pour some water (or wine) in it. Even the general information folder left on the coffee table is so dirty, disgusting and has mouldy pages inside. On the top of that the place is damp and therefore the smell downstairs in not pleasant. Squeaky toilet door that will defo wake you up at night. It is such a shame because the cottage is lovely, just needs some TLC. The owners, well, we only met the husband, who came the first night to say hi. They live literally next door. The wife was in touch only via text message and I can assure you there wasn’t even a ‘hello’ in her message, not ‘looking forward to welcoming you’, not even simplest courtesy. I knew straight after we arrived that dogs are not that welcome as stated in the advert, there wasn’t even a water bowl available. All there was for dogs is a ‘poo’ bin in the garden (handy I accept), and sign to clean after your dog. Also the owner complaint that our dog run into their garden (not separated at all from our cottage’s garden), and that if our dogs poos in their garden they need to clean it, so he shut the gate to the garden. On the top of that, the intro folder sates that dogs are not allowed upstairs, and not allowed in bedrooms either. Well, bedrooms are downstairs, kitchen, lounge and dining room upstairs, I have no idea where we supposed to keep our dog. On the plus side the area is lovely, really pretty. A lovely coffee shop down the road and Jolly Farm Shop were great for quick shopping or bite to eat. Also a warning that Chapel Cottage shares the drive/ entry and garden access with October cottage, so if both have guests at the same time, it might get busy. We were lucky that October cottage was empty. Also the narrow road a few people refer to, it is narrow but not unusually narrow. You don’t have to worry, unless you drive a lorry!

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at Chapel Cottage. I'm sorry to hear the property didn't meet your expectations and i can assure you we do have high standards on the cleaning. We will pass on your comments to the Owner for review with her Housekeeper. I hope you still enjoyed the local area and the wonderful places the Cotswolds and surrounding area's have to offer. • "The cottage was nicely decorated and very comfortable, the kitchen exceptionally well equipped and recommendations for what to do in the area really good."

Baked treats and wine were a nice touch! Upside down living wasn't an issue, except if you wanted to lie in/nap in the afternoon whilst the rest of your party were in the lounge/kitchen, as the wooden floors are noisy. Bathroom door could also do with some WD40 so as not to wake the whole household up when visiting the bathroom in the middle of the night. An extra toilet roll in each toilet would not have gone amiss either (particularly as the one toilet had less than a 10th of a roll when we got there, which could have been awkward had the rest of our party not arrived the next day enabling us to stock up on Day 2). Bring soap/shower gel. Directions to the property definitely need to be clearer too, particularly as the narrow lane which one had to drive up had a sign saying 'Road closed ahead' which meant we drove around for 15 minutes trying to find the cottage, which was a little frustrating. Otherwise we had a lovely stay.

Thank you for taking the time to leave this review. We're glad you enjoyed your stay and found the cottage to be comfortable and well equipped. Thank you also for bringing to our attention some minor issues which we will pass on to the owner, together with your suggestions regarding directions to the property. We would love to welcome you again. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "We had several issues with the property resulting in us leaving a day only."

The main issue was the overwhelming smell of damp in the main bedroom. The bedding felt wet and there was a nightly infestation of woodlice which was totally unpleasant. The toilet was filthy as were the tiles in the shower area which were partly mouldy and definitely in need of a good scrub. The description is not accurate. There is no pub within walking distance and no chance of getting a taxi either. The freezer was actually an ice box. The upstairs toilet was also not working properly. The radiator leaked in the downstairs bathroom and the skirting was hanging off in the bathroom. The owner was made aware of these issues but failed to help with them in any way and has ignored our message to her. We lost a days holiday which is valuable to us but we are obviously of no importance to her now she has our well earned cash. She actually lived next door but it must have been too much effort to come across the yard and look at our these issues. Very disappointed

We did go right up the hill but found the property finally on foot from the Bridal shop! The chapel has lovely pictures and glass/China ornaments which makes for a very friendly atmosphere. Kitchen is fully equipped lacking nothing for catering needs. Enclosed garden perfect for our dog and next to parking area. We loved our stay.

Clean and comfortable. Had some issues with heating but owners were quick to sort the problem out. I think Sykes need to ensure the description is accurate. Advertised as ground floor accommodation should read ground floor bedrooms. This is clarified later in the details. Some difficulty with 91 year old negotiating the stairs!

  • "What a fantastic location!"

The cottage was cosy and very comfortable. Kitchen very well equipped and the bathroom spacious. Lovely outside space, great garden. We were 4 adults. The second bedroom lacked a mirror on the wall. Plenty everywhere else. When using the outside steps to access the kitchen from the second bedroom in the dark, some adequate outside lighting would be good as this was quite dangerous. Apart from that perfect!

The cottage has got a character and and a lovely vibe. The upside down nature of the cottage became a major attraction for my 4 year old and she absolutely loved it and made jokes about it being upside down. Could not have asked for for better hosts! Hilary even left freshly baked banana bread and a bottle of wine to welcome us. Such a lovely gesture! Everything about the cottage and the location was perfect. Will highly recommend and will go back my self at some point.

  • "Where does one start?"

I contacted Hillary prior to our visit for help and suggesstions, my partner and I have not had the best year as we were due to wed late May but wedding due to Covid-19 we could not go forward. Hillary was very responsive and helpful, during my planning stages Hillary suggested a local photographer and lovely Amy to make our wedding cake. We got married earlier in the day in East London and booked the Cotswolds for our Minimoon which actually was our honeymoon, we had the best time. The cutest Chapel Cottage which is a home away from home, everything you would need plus more. Our beautiful cottage gave us the most happiness and we cannot wait to visit again. Such a clean place with the most beautiful views, you will not need to bring anything for the cottage as Hillary provides everything you need and the grounds are the most beautful. The cottage is is in reach of everywhere you would like to visit, we visited Stroud, Sapperton, Frampton Mansell, Stratford upon Avon, Nailsworth, Cirencester, Cheltemham etc visiting the best places to view and eat from following the cottage guidebook. Upon arrival we had ruffles on the gates and cottage which made our visit so special and personal, leaving our lovely cottage has been so depressing and we miss it so much, my partner and I are very sentimental therefore Chalford has been very special. With such a great host and cottage you will have the best stay, there is nothing I would change, this has been the best experience of 2020! Also, we loved the attention to detail, Hillary has the best eye for China plates, Laura Ashley and John Lewis :) the best discreet cottage we have stayed in.

The listing stated no washing machine, but there is one, which is useful. We were lucky to have beautiful September weather. We loved the lively modern decoration, with hot pink and hot orange accents. Everything worked and the cleaning was really thorough in this C19 age of special need. Much help from the owner neighbour available but not intrusive. Nice to see a variety of livestock in the grounds too. The cottages are nestled in lovely wooded hills so all views out v interesting.
