  • "Fantastic property, very well equipped."

Ideal location with great facilities within walking distance. On street parking was an issue, with no spaces on the street for the duration of our stay until the last morning, having to instead use the car park which wasn’t ideal when emptying the car or carrying sleeping toddler. The staircase was a little narrower/steeper than my elderly father expected however appreciate age of the property. Children loved their bedroom until the last night when the temperature of the properly was unbearable due to high temperatures outside. A few fans would have been very welcome. A blind on the landing window would also be appreciated as this window let lots of light in the early morning.

Thank you for your feedback. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at the property and that you found the cottage well equipped for your whole party. It really is in a great location for exploring the immediate and wider area. We will take you comments regarding fans and a blind on the window to the owner. Thank you for this lovely review. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and found the location near the high street to be so convenient. We will pass on your comment regarding the front door lock to the Property Manager. We hope to welcome you again. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderful and comfortable stay in Wall Cottage, which was perfectly situated for our needs."

Its description was accurate and the cottage is surprisingly light and roomy and very well equipped, although the addition of a wall mirror and hair dryer in the attic room would be useful. From a maintenance point of view, when using the shower, water leaks from the corner of the screen and tracks across the bathroom towards the sink. This needs rectifying before it causes an accident or damage to the property.

Thank you for taking the time to leave this feedback. We are so pleased that you had a wonderful stay at Wall Cottage.Thank you for your suggestions and informing us of the water leak from the shower. Maintenance has attended and resolved this thanks to your information! We look forward to welcoming you back to the Cotswold's again soon. Kind regards, Manor Cottages. Property Owner

  • "We have stayed at several Sykes Cottages before and this is the only one we've not felt able to provide a 5* review for."

The cottage is well located, a few minutes off the high street, in Burford and looks just like the photos on the site, however, there was an overwhelming smell of kerosene fumes (or some sort of fuel) which was noxious and nauseating throughout the downstairs living area. The smell would particularly build up during the night and throughout the day when we were out, so we would have to leave the back door and front windows open whenever we used the kitchen, dining and living area. This wasn't too problematic when the weather was hot but we had a few cold rainy days and it was unpleasant to sit in the cold, but even more unpleasant to tolerate the fumes/vapour build up when we closed the doors and windows. The managing agent responded quickly by immediately sending out plumbers twice during our 5 day stay but neither time could they identify or resolve the issue. We didn't have a baby or small children with us but if we had I wouldn't have felt comfortable, or felt it safe to stay in this property, and can only hope that the owner/managing agent can sort out this issue before the property is let to subsequent visitors. On a more minor note the kitchen didn't appear that well kitted out for people who like to cook so would benefit from serving spoons, sturdy cutting boards, wooden spoons, garlic crusher, etc.

  • "We had a lovely stay, just some feedback with having teenage daughter there was no full length mirror in the cottage and none in the bedrooms , more coat hangers would be useful."

For me it was beautiful but perhaps due to space no seating for 5 in the living room we did bring one chair from the kitchen. Nothing negative at all we had a lovely stay. Thank you :)

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. We're delighted you had a lovely stay at Wall Cottage and your comments will be taken on board. We hope to welcome you again. Property Owner

  • "It was a beautiful cottage in a beautiful village, lots of pubs, restaurants and cafes nearby."

There was however some simple amenities that could have been supplied to make our stay easier, such a toilet roll, there was only one roll left, there was no bath mat, which meant we have to use the hand towel on the floor, there was no shower gel or any complimentary shampoo which we would usually expect, there was also no cleaning products for us to wipe down the inside of the fridge or clean the countertops

Thank you for your constructive comments and we are sorry to hear that these things were not supplied. If we had been made aware of this during your stay we could have organsised for these to have been bought to the property for you. We are however pleased to hear you loved the cottage. • "Wall Cottage is an absolutely beautiful cottage within a beautiful location."

Plenty of space, immaculately clean and incredibly cosy. We all adored the log fire and the children loved their attic room (which had a beautiful view of the old roof tops in the village). A slightly bigger bed would’ve been great in one of the double rooms as my hubby is 6ft 4 and we have a super-king at home. We resolved it by him sleeping on his own in one of the doubles. There would be room for a bigger bed as the bedrooms are lovely and spacious. We couldn’t have been happier with our stay and would recommend anyone else a visit. Thank you - a wonderful half term enjoyed by us all!

  • "Wall Cottage was a perfect base for exploring beautiful Burford and surrounding towns."

The cottage is less than 2 minutes from Burford high street where there are lots of great restaurants and shops. We did a lot of walking both around Burford without having to get in the car and also driving 10-15 mins to the next couple of towns to do some exploring elsewhere as well. The cottage had everything we needed and although we didn't cook there seemed very well equipped if you wanted to do so. The beds and pillows were comfy and the towels were lovely! I would definitely recommend staying here and would stay again.

The property

Wall Cottage is a wonderful Cotswold stone holiday home in the historic market town of Burford.

The dwelling is the perfect retreat for a gathering of friends or family who are seeking a relaxing getaway just a stone’s throw from the centre of a vibrant market town.

You are welcomed into a small entrance hall, with hooks to hang your coats and space to kick off your boots, as you enter into the beautiful open-plan living/dining room which has stylish flagstone flooring and has been decorated to a neutral tone, giving it a real comforting and homely feel, where you can relax on the two-seater sofa or one of the armchairs and catch up on your favourite TV show as the woodburning stove that sits within a lovely stone fireplace creates a warming ambience in the whole room.

A continuation of this room is the well-equipped kitchen, that is a wonderful sociable space, with all the appliances required to put your culinary skills to the test, whilst overlooking the garden through the Velux windows and patio doors, as your guests lay the large dining table, ready to tuck into your feast and uncork a bottle of wine!

A convenient cloakroom with a basin and WC completes the ground-floor, just before you walk up the cream carpeted stairs to discover two welcoming bedrooms, which share the floor with the bright and airy bathroom; both containing double beds, and overlooking the rooftops of Burford.

A further staircase leads you to the third bedroom located in the eaves of the property which is a bright and spacious room, overlooking the church, with twin beds and children’s table and chairs, making it perfect for the kids!

Catch the last of the afternoon sun in the enclosed patio garden, that has two-tiers, with the second tier housing a table set and a fire pit which can be used as a barbecue in warm months.

Wall Cottage is located in the heart of the bustling market town of Burford, a picturesque medieval town which is home to a number of independent shops, galleries, restaurants and tearooms; you can have a delicious breakfast at Honeycott’s Coffee and Shakes before enjoying a day surrounded by wildlife at Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens or at Crocodiles of the World, and finish off your day with a lovely meal at The Royal Oak pub.

The High Street descends from the high Wolds down to the River Windrush, offering glorious views across the Windrush Valley, which is lined with ancient cottages, slanting half-timbered houses and refined Georgian townhouses, and there is a museum which illustrates the town’s social and industrial past, Tolsey Museum.

Surrounded by stunning countryside, there are many walks and cycle routes on Burford’s doorstep, as well as a range of popular attractions including Burford Golf Club, and given its central location, Burford is well-placed for exploring the many historic towns and villages of the Cotswolds such as Stow-on-the-Wold, a historical market town, sat at 800 feet above sea level, as well as Bourton-on-the-Water, where the River Windrush flows under the low-rise bridges, giving it the name of the ‘Venice of the Cotswolds’, and Cirencester a market town known as the ‘Capital of the Cotswolds’, where you will find fantastic shopping options and an array of attractions for all the family to enjoy.

There is something for all the family in Burford, so choose Wall Cottage as your base and you’ll have a wonderful holiday.

About the location

Burford

Burford is possibly one of, if not THE most famous of the Cotswolds' locations. With its medieval bridge, old stone houses and attractive Tudor and Georgian frontages, Burford is justifiably one of the most picturesque towns in England. Often referred to as the 'Gateway to the Cotswolds', the town was originally a fortified Anglo-Saxon ford which later grew to be an important regional crossroads and wealthy wool town. Located mid way between Oxford and Cheltenham (25 mins each away) it is a little haven of history and beauty that many come to fall in love with when they visit.

The 16th century Tolsey building, once the meeting place for medieval merchants, now houses The Tolsey Museum, a delightful local museum illustrating the town's social and industrial past. The church is stunning, a real gem architecturally with many interesting memorials charting some of Burford's great families. There is also the signature, on the baptisimal font, of Antony Sedley, one of the Levellers besieged in the church in 1649 - three of the ringleaders were executed by Oliver Cromwell's men in the churchyard. History awaits!

With little changing over the centuries, Burford is now very popular with visitors, both for its beauty and history but also for its shopping and antiques, and for the wide variety of places to eat, with restaurants, pubs and teashops. It is an ideal base for visiting The Cotswolds area as it is within easy driving distance of popular attractions such as Blenheim Palace, Sudley Castle, Warwick Castle and several National Trust Houses and Gardens. Bourton on the Water, Bibury, Cirencester and Stow on the Wold are all with 25 minutes from the property.

Note: An initial basket of logs is provided for the woodburning stove from October to April; further log supplies can be purchased locally.

Note: Young children should be supervised when in the garden as there is a raised patio with a drop to the lower level.

Note: The Velux windows in the twin bedroom do not have child locks.
