  • "The cottage is in a lovely peaceful location."

The bedrooms and the bathrooms were great. The kitchen was great equiped with everyrhing you needed and more. The only downside was the dining / loung area qe found it to be to cramped. The table was to big it would seat 10 people ( why when it only slept 4!). There was 3 theee seater sofas when 2 would be enough. I suggest you might need to update the photos of the lounge / dining room to reflect this. Other than that we had a lovely holiday.

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Hazel Manor Wing which is situated in a delightful rural setting."

The kitchen is large with everything you need, except no dishwasher tablets! There is a large dining table which when we arrived was completely set for dinner. The lounge has 2 large Chesterfield Lounges that have seen better days, stitching coming apart & the bases have lost their support. There are two bedrooms, the main with a large Kingsize bed, which has also seen better days, we both ended up with sore backs so transferred to the second bedroom which was extremely comfortable. Both bedrooms had updated bathrooms, both fabulous with the exception a tray needs to be added to the shower in Main bathroom to hold Soap, Shampoo etc as it’s quite slippery to try & pick them up from the floor (actually a health & safety hazard) especially with someone who has mobility issues. The whole place needs to be silicone sealed to keep out the crawling bugs & small spiders killed quite a few In all our years of coming to the UK & hiring cottages in different parts of the country (over 30years) this is the first time we have been asked to strip our beds etc. Is this a new thing? The cottage is quite isolated but we were able to drive to surrounding towns, Had a great Sunday Roast at The Butchers Arms & a fabulous meal just up the road at Fostons Ash Inn can highly recommend both of these. This property was quite difficult to find & we did have a satnav, also had to be very careful when exiting the property as it’s hard to see both ways for traffic especially coming over the hill. We wish the owners all the best & for a small amount of upgrade it could be a 5 Star property Jack & Judith Ware South Australia

The grounds were perfect to walk our 3 dogs who enjoyed their stay as much as we did! We walked in through the door of Hazel Manor Wing and immediately felt at home. The lamp was on in the open plan area and they’d even laid the table for our evening meal. The beautiful bedrooms with underfloor heating, soft fluffy quilts and pillows and lovely soaps etc were a real bonus. A fully equipped kitchen with everything one could wish for. Another bonus was having Sky TV and the wonderful open fire with logs and firelighters to hand. Being able to walk the dog in the grounds of the estate was brilliant, and the wonderful Cotswold towns and villages makes this an ideal location. We’ve stayed in excess of 10 properties with Sykes Cottages and this is by far the best we’ve ever stayed in - we will definitely be back.

The property is well equipped and the only note there was no shower mats for either the shower or bath which my elderly mother found the shower very slippery but we improvised with a towel. The views were outstanding and with the beautiful autumnal sun shining in made our stay even better. After a bad experience at The Royal George pub that claims to be dog friendly but doesn’t clarify on their website only in their bar and after being spoken to awfully by a couple of their staff we found a charming and very friendly complete dog friendly pub near by called The Golden Heart Inn brilliant food and lovely atmosphere. We also found walks near by at Selsley Common and Crickley Hill to be wonderful and views outstanding well worth a visit.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. We're delighted you enjoyed your stay and made the most of the local walks. However, there were rather a lot of flies about in the building. Suggest a fly trap similar to the ones in food hygiene shop could be installed. Also no cleaning solvents. Bag shortages too. No replacement food bags or recycle bags. We enjoyed our stay very much. Pip, my lab, complained that there wasn’t enough places to walk. The road past the cottage was much too busy and unsafe.

The only thing that put the mockers on the whole holiday was a dog that barked continuously from 10pm until 4.15 am. Then started again at 6am. We enjoyed our stay, but as said by a previous guest, we found three big sofas unnecessary, if the fabric sofa wasn’t there, access to the crockery cupboards would be made easier, as the dining table is too close to the cupboards because of the sofa. One other point, again, mentioned by previous guests, the log fire smoked so badly, it filled the room with smoke and set the fire alarms off, we are use to lighting a fire, we have them in our own house. We had to open all the windows in the cottage to let the smoke out, and to stop the ear piercing fire alarms going off, which surely would of been heard by the owners. This happened over two nights, so we gave up lighting the fire, as it did not make a very relaxing evening. Robert Goodrich

The open plan living area is very cramped and nothing like the photos on the web page, too many sofas. The fire place is magnificent but there is so much smoke pervading the living space that we had to open windows and let the fire out after a couple of hours (does the chimney need sweeping? We are fully use to looking after fires). The heating thermostat in the main bedroom does not work, the dishwasher does not wash, had to hand wash pots after being in dishwasher for 3.5 hours also has tops of buttons missing and generally needs replacing. I would consider replacing glasses and drinking mugs as there seems to be lots of mismatched items ie no full sets. Once these issues have been addressed then we could well be looking at a 4/5* property. Having said all this we had a very pleasant stay at the Wing which is in a beautiful location with many picturesque villages round and about.

This will be shared with the property owner. Hazel Manor Wing didn't disappoint. We are 2 couples, with dogs, from down south and up north. We had space for parking, an enclosed area for the dogs to use, a sociable and open plan living, dining, kitchen, two bedrooms of which one was adequate and the other large. The beds were very comfy. We both had en suite and also a third loo. When this property was updated, no expense was spared. It really is quality - next door to a Manor house in the heart of the Gloucestershire countryside. I've scored it 5 out of 5 but we have a couple of suggestions; my cousin had the shower over the bath but would have liked a 'hand rail' for safety getting out and I would have liked a bigger television. Our holiday was all about two cousins catching up and it served that purpose perfectly. My niece visited from Bristol and is considering booking it. Dear owner, we never found the dustpan and brush. It took a while to find but I should have read the instructions supplied as found it then. The sat nav took us elsewhere. The 6pm check-in was the only real bug bear. My husband needed an early night as was running an Ultramarathon the following day, we did ask if there was any flexibility but were told not. It meant he was very tired on the day as after cooking and eating, he retired later than wanted to. There were also no manuals on the kitchen appliances. We had to look up online for the dishwasher as couldn’t find the ‘on’ button and then could see that the buttons were missing covers so wouldn’t have found it without a manual. A folder with manuals is a must if your not familiar with the make and model. All in all, We found it clean and comfortable. It was a really quiet place to relax, we wish it could have been longer.

  • "We are two adult couples who regularly holiday in rented cottages and have just returned from a good week away at Hazel Manor Wing."

It is a lovely property – and with some attention to details it could be superb. We thought the very late check in time of 6pm was probably in order to facilitate a deep clean – but it couldn’t have been, because we actually found the place rather grubby in places (for example, the kitchen and bathroom floors didn’t appear to have been washed for a while and the cutlery drawer contained bits of food). Also, although there was lots of very nice crockery, the cooking pans left a lot to be desired. Most of the pans (frying pans and oven trays) were unusable due to scratches and stains and prolonged use – so much so that I had to buy a new pan to cook in! And the dishwasher wasn’t washing properly because it had no salt or rinse aid! Things like this should be checked regularly and replaced as necessary, as it wouldn’t cost a great deal to buy new oven trays and a new frying pan each year. The outside space was great for our dogs and very safe for them. But absolutely terrible for people! There has been no attempt to tidy it up or make it an enjoyable space and the seating was covered in leaves and mossy deposits. We couldn’t have sat outside to enjoy a relaxing drink and that was a big disappointment. On a positive note, the fridge/freezer was wonderful and the beds were comfortable – though the second bedroom was so small that it was really annoying and the shower in the main bedroom was blocked and could only be used on a minimum flow. I’m sorry to seem to be so negative but this is a potentially lovely cottage spoilt by little or no attention to detail. It seemed to all of us that the cleaners are doing only the bare minimum and nobody is overseeing or checking!

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback following your stay. We're glad that you and your friends had a good week at Hazel Manor Wing and appreciate you bringing some issues to our attention. It is a helpful suggestion regarding the late check in time and we will try to amend this for future guests. We apologise if the cleanliness was not up to our usual high standards and have passed on your comments to the housekeeping team for immediate attention. We have also organised the purchase of new cookiing pans as recommended We're glad your dogs enjoyed the outside space and we will endeavour to keep this free of fallen leaves and mossy deposits. Regarding the shower, we are always available to give assistance if there are problems such as these and a quick phone call would have enabled us to fix this straightaway. We struggled to get a taxi , probably as it was Xmas time . Think it’s fair to say a car is a must even to pop to the pub or shop . It’s a lovely area and a lovely house all said .

We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Hazel Wing Manor in the Cotswolds. We are sorry to hear that you felt it was too far to walk to Painswick, we will try and highlight the mile walk more on the website for future guests. Property Owner

  • "Very well appointed and comfortable."

Being able to light a fabulous log fire in the wet and windy weather that Autumn can bring is a bonus. Kitchen well appointed with plenty of cooking implements. Furnishings very nice. Great to have a courtyard garden to let the young dog out and be contained. The country side of course speaks for itself. Mincinhampton Common not far by car and a good place to take the dog and let it run whilst being careful of the cows and golfers who are free to use it too! Would recommend it.

There is everything you could need for your stay away from home. The cottage is equipped with the highest standard of furnishings & bedding. The hosts are very hospitable and we could walk our dog in their grounds - which was very kind. All in all an amazing cottage in beautiful grounds within the rolling Cotswold countryside. Never seen so many utensils in a kitchen before. The enclosed courtyard was perfect for letting children and dogs run freely, however through the door of the main bedroom leading onto an area by the tennis courts which we think was of use to us as there were no signs to say you couldn’t access you could encounter the owners 3 dogs. The side garden was beautifully kept but didn’t go on that bit as thought that belonged to main house. Very peaceful location but beware of narrow lanes. There is so much to see and do the area. Would definitely recommend the cottage.

Thank you for recommending Hazel Manor Wing, we are pleased to hear you found the cottage very well equipped. We will pass your comments on regarding the area next to the tennis court and side garden. We hope you return soon! Property Owner

Hazel Manor Wing is very comfortable, in a beautiful, quiet setting which gave us the perfect holiday. The master bedroom has plenty of storage and a very comfortable super king sized bed, with a view over the beautiful garden, and a large en suite with Juliette basins and a very efficient shower. The second bedroom has a king sized bed and an en suite with a bath with shower over. The open plan lounge, dining room and kitchen has top speck equipment, and nothing has been forgotten. There is plenty of China, cutlery, glasses, pots and pans in the very modern kitchen. Logs and kindling are provided for the fire on those chilly evenings. A large enclosed garden at the front of the wing is perfect for our dog. There is parking for two cars by the wing. Rupert the owner was very friendly and helpful. Although the weather was very changeable we were so cosy that on the bad days we were very happy to stay in. We will definitely go back there. It is a very good place as a base for exploring the Cotswolds.

The property

This a proper Cotswolds gem!

Hazel Manor Wing, as the name suggests, is the detached and private wing of a rather grand Cotswolds manor home.

As you drive down a sweeping treelined drive, you arrive and immediately feel 'this is the life'...

From the outside this old building is the classic listed Cotswolds house complete with rambling roses and a typical stone structure.

Step inside and a very warm and bright home greets you.

The large, vaulted living area is impressive, with a large open fire surrounded by similarly large sofas and coffee table - the perfect space to relax.

The sparkling kitchen is ultra modern and fully equipped and the huge dining table is a perfect for a feast as it is to spread the newspaper out!

There are two bedrooms each with a stunning bathroom ideal for privacy and two couples.

Outside there is an enclosed garden area, ideal for your pooch and beyond are some incredible walks into 'proper' Cotswolds countryside.

Take a walk along the lane to the nearest pub about a mile away, or jump in the car to Roman Cirencester, Tetbury or the spa town of Cheltenham all of which are about 20 mins drive away.

As a family, as a couple or as a pair of couples this is a great place to explore (and relax) the Cotswolds.

Painswick, located only 10 miles from Cheltenham, is a town and civil parish in Gloucestershire. It is home to a cricket and rugby team and has a popular golf course on the outskirts of the town. There is a local pub The Royal Oak which offer real ales, real fires and a courtyard.
