Also how did you manage to put the books on the very high bookshelf in the main bedroom!

There was only one point we would recommend: the small bed needs urgently a new mattress ;-) By and large: we enjoyed our stay very much

A comfortable quirky cottage with all we needed. Beautiful private country garden at the back of the property with total privacy. Very clean property with a very comfortable bed. Only down side was the parking at the end of the lane, but we were told about this. Very peaceful property and relaxing surrounded by beautiful villages and countryside. Local pub which is in walking distance is closed but lots of nice places to eat in driving distance.

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your recent stay at Brooklands. We are delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay with us and i hope you managed to enjoy some of the lovely local walks. Staircase is steep and feels like it tilts forward slightly. No problem for us, it was a novelty, but any mobility issues and you'd be stuck. Parking at the bottom of the lane was no biggie, but again, if you have mobility issues, you'd struggle here. We actually loved our stay and would return gladly.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. We're glad you enjoyed your stay at Brooklands and hope the issues mentioned didn't impact your stay - we do try to give a clear impression of the stairs in the photos so that guests who do have any mobility issues are awarel. I don't feel you should have to pay for wood every day just to heat the place when you have already payed to stay . There should be another form of heating for the lounge. I know it is an old cottage but it's draughty and freezing. There is only a fixed shower. The parking is terrible, so not only do you get wet the cottage is freezing when you get there. Couldn't wait to come home.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry you didn't enjoy your stay at Brooklands. We do only provide a starter pack of logs and kindling during the winter months. The cottage has heaters in all rooms except the lounge, which benefits from a lovely wood burner. We have now added an additional oil filled radiator for extra heat in the lounge, should it be required during the colder months. The parking situation is stated on our website. The kitchen had a vast array of implements needed to prepare and serve food and a very merry and satisfying meal was consumed on Christmas Day followed by reading stories sitting in front of a blazing fire: what more could you wish for? The parking, as has been mentioned before in other reviews is somewhat annoying but a short walk down the hill to the lay-by solves the problem. The cottage was clean and warm ,the bedroom quaint with a very nice comfortable bed and there was lots of hot water in a spacious bathroom. Situated in a beautiful part of the Countryside a very nice stay, thank you.

  • "He cottage is pleasant,in a lovely setting and well located but there are many issues that need addressing."

The furniture is outdated (not a problem in itself but it is when poorly maintained)and not fit for purpose. An armchair broke when my husband sat on it. It was obvious that a previous repair had proved inadequate. Luckily he wasn't hurt, just a little shaken. This was reported immediately but we had to wait 4 days until we received a response. Several other chairs were unstable and we were reluctant to use them. This was pointed out by other reviewers but it is clearly still an issue and has not been acted on. The crockery and cutlery were all mismatched and there was a bizarre collection of extremely sharp knives. Not having a freezer(even a small section in a fridge as is often the case)was a BIG issue, especially as we had temperatures of nearly 30° and ice cubes, ice creams etc would have been most welcome. Also we would normally purchase frozen food to cook at the accommodation, but this was not possible. There was an empty cupboard where it looks as if a freezer was previously located which begs the question 'why has it not been replaced?' There was also too much personal information at the property which was rather uncomfortable as it felt as though you were intruding in someone's home (usually cottages are impersonal ,'dressed' but comfortable). Also it could be a security issue-identity theft etc. The cottage was poorly lit-especially upstairs and the lighting was ,again,mis-matched and inadequate. The headboard on the bed was loose and we had to push the bed against the wall so that it was secure which meant we had to take care not to bang our heads on the rather imposing portrait hung over the bed. Not very romantic! There were several safety issues with the stairs leading to upstairs(as another reviewer stated, not suitable for those with moblilty issues)and also those leading to the garden(quite lethal large concrete stairs again not suitable for those with moblilty issues or children). The parking is not ideal(this is pointed out in the description)as,although there are spaces at the end of the lane,at times it was difficult to find a space. These issues really do need addressing as previous reviewers have pointed some of the above comments and nothing appears to have been actioned to date

Many thanks for your feedback on Brooklands. We will look into all the issues raised. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

Too may faults to list them all but here are a few. Damaged front path and iffy stairs make it totally unsuitable for anyone with mobility problems. Bedroom has no wardrobe or drawers and no usable surfaces and lighting is very poor. Bathroom needs repairs to broken towel rail, cracked tiles, clogged showerhead, and damage woodwork. Living area poorly lit, 5 amp plug for a lampand a c piple of picture lights, small TV on a shelf obscured by books, rickety chairs and small table, No logs for log burner, old smelly books, Kitchen is not clean, crockery and cutlery looks like a job lot from a charity shop, one electric appliance with a sticker stating electrically failed, no freezer or freezer compartment, table has a nail sticking up on the top, bench seat does not feel safe. Old jumble everywhere. Parking is at the foot of a hill and totally inadequate, The road is narrow, notes left on car windscreen complaining about where car is parked, Garden is up some steep stairs, lots of old rubbish at the top where the bench is. GOOD POINTS: lovely area, comfortable settee, excellent bed and quilt.

The environment is authentic, quiet and beautiful. The garden is very pleasant. The presence of many books in the house is certainly an added value. Nevertheless, there are some points that can be improved. The garden furniture is in a bad condition and that is a shame because that way you can not fully enjoy the beautiful garden. • "The property was fantastically quaint and exactly what we wanted."

It would have been helpful to know in advance that they would only provide a few logs for the fire and we'd need to purchase more. Arriving on a Sat evening in a remote village meant everything was closed until Monday so we had to travel quite a few miles in the fog to get logs, which, in the middle of winter was essential. (If we'd have knows, we would've brought some en route). The bed was also very small (I'm not sure really that it was a double) and the mattress quite uncomfortable. It could do with a new one. We also had absolutely no mobile signal (two phones on two networks) but luckily the WIFI worked perfectly for the stay. But it was a downfall when we booked a table at a restaurant and travelled in the fog for 10 miles to be told they had no gas but had tried to call us to tell us there was no food service! Otherwise, the property was beautiful and the town was lovely. Outside of the above issues, it was exactly what we were looking for. The mince pies and milk were a welcomed touch on arrival.

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at Brooklands. We do only provide starter packs in all our cottages with regards to logs, but you can get them at pretty much any petrol station in the cotswolds. I will pass on your comments with regards to the bed to the owner for review. Again mobile signal is generally hit and miss in remote locations, but the wifi is good. Going forward if this is important, please ask us when booking your cottage and we can advise. It's a lovely little cottage in a very quiet setting, perfect for a getaways. Property Owner

Excellent situation in a beautiful village will well stocked kitchen and a good bath :-) Great character filled cottage with interesting quirks

    Mrs Pearston

  • "Very quaint and pretty cottage, beautiful setting."

Extremely quiet. We had some problems with heating that I assume the owner and manager are sorting out. Local cat made itself at home. You cannot park on site but it is easy to drop off and pick up bags and park nearby. It's in a tiny lane.

  • "This cottage was every bit as charming as it looks in the pictures!"

My husband, daughter and I could have spent an entire summer here. I really don't know where to start on relaying how wonderful Brooklands is. The village of Chedworth is picturesque and you can walk the entire town on foot paths that meander throughout the town. There are fresh wild berries and apples everywhere you walk and the neighbors are very friendly. The cottage itself is clean, homey and cozy. I highly recommend Brooklands cottage and I hope to make it back there one day!\

  • "“Brooklands has so much charm it is extraordinary, but it is combined with good ammenity too."

The open plan downstairs area feels very spacious but cosy too when its cold. For an old house the bathroom is good and spare room spacious. Kitchen also very good. Great place to explore the Cotswolds.” \ Annie, July 2016

  • "We wanted a small, inexpensive cottage with a log fire within short driving distance of friends - and that is what we got!"

    Bower

  • "The property is lovely and well kept, equipped with all one needs for a short stay."

The heating was on all day, which made our stay very warm and comfortable. The stove was already prepared with logs and ready to be fired. We found chocolates and milk for us in the kitchen: very much appreciated. The back garden is lovely and we could enjoy some time outside. There is an awesome pub just 5 minutes away and many walking paths through the beautiful landscape.

The property

With wonky beams, slopey floors and majestic views across the quintessential English scene, 'Brooklands' is just what you want from a typical Cotswolds cottage.

Tucked within the Ballinger's Row, an historic collection of 17th Century cottages, Brooklands is the charming and perfect 'get away from it all' bolt hole within a truly romantic location.

Not only that, inside the character speaks for itself, spacious rooms presented with antique touches, altogether give this beautiful home a truly cosy feel.

Watch the telly or read a book in front of the fire, or simply do nothing but enjoy the exceptional setting and commanding views over the completely unspoilt Chedworth Valley.

And there is a delightful country pub at the end of your lane too, The Seven Tuns is currently closed, but hopefully re-opening soon.

Although in the Row, the impression is of complete seclusion and tranquility, having an enclosed mature garden and situated on a narrow lane with scarcely any traffic at all: but cars can deliver (and turn around at the end of the road) and are parked at the end of the lane.

This is an eclectic, manor-style bolt hole just perfect for hiding away from the busy world!

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £50.
