The apartment is quite compact with the kitchen, dining and lounge all in the same space, but this was as expected. The beds were comfortable and the main bedroom has the benefit of an en-suite toilet/sink. The apartment is directly attached to the pub and this did generate some noise, but nothing too much and not late at night during our week. The main noise comes from the road which seems to attract some traffic passing in a big hurry very early in the morning, which you can't miss if you have the windows open. Keep them shut and it is fine, the double glazing solves that issue. Sue and Ian are a lovely friendly couple and we enjoyed both Sunday lunch and one evening meal in the pub restaurant, and would recommend giving this a try.

Settees comfortable as were the beds. Microwave quite rusty, Hot water was never hot, had to boil kettle for washing up and water temp spoilt a lovely shower. Welcome wine, milk and chocolates appreciated. We ate at the pub and the Sunday Roast was excellent value, lovely deserts and large portions. Shame the outside of pub looks unkempt. Garden area needs a good tidying up. Owner did say the carpark was due to be updated. No local info provided or info for rubbish and where to put used bed linens and towels. Plenty walks in forest, well aware of boars churning up verges and fields. Rising sun served excellent food and the Fountain pub was good for a drink, we didn't eat there.

The wine and chocolates on arrival were a nice touch. The hosts were friendly and helpful, we had suggestions on places to visit. The accommodation is attached to a pub, however we did not experience any issues with noise. We went along to the open mike night in the pub and had an enjoyable evening listening to the locals playing and singing.

Comfortable accommodation that suited our needs very well, and owners Sue and Ian were welcoming and friendly. Welcome pack was also great. Brewery Lodge was equipped with everything we needed for a week away. When we couldnt get the Dvd to work Ian sorted it very promptly. We ate at adjoining pub on 3 occasions and food was great and we were made to feel very welcome. Would definitely stay again when next visit Forest of Dean. It would have been useful to have instructions for using electric oven ( as we have Gas oven at home), instead a google search came to my aid.

"We arrived on the late afternoon mid week , into a lovely , clean accommodation which was attached to the pub , once we had unpacked , we popped into the pub and was welcomed by everyone, we ate , drank and got to know all the regulars and the owners and family ."
We loved every second of our stay , the local area is so pretty , can highly recommend staying here , hopefully we will return in the future . Our dog was made very welcome too . She had an absolute ball .

This wasn't our first visit and certainly won't be our last. Lovely clean, comfortable cottage. Sue and Ian go out of their way to make the stay as enjoyable as possible. I would also recommend the food that they serve at their adjoining pub The New Inn.

Noise level from pub was unbearable on Friday and especially Saturday night, which was karaoke night 8.30-12pm. You have to be aware that the lodge is in the beer garden and you will get people sat one step from your front door, so at times inappropriate language was used. On the plus side milk chocolates and wine was a nice touch. Owners really friendly, and centrally based for travelling.

A welcoming box of chocolates and bottle of wine in there on our arrival were very much appreciated. Hosts Sue and Ian were very easy to get on with and gave us good advice about places to visit and the history and roots of the area. One thing perplex us, there was no welcoming pack or instructions on what to do before leaving. As regular users of Sykes cottages we followed the expected routine of leaving it as we found it, put the bed linen in a pile and left the rubbish bag by the door.

"A gem! A dog-friendly cottage/lodge handily situated in the garden of the village pub & close to a number of attractions in the Forest of Dean and wider."
The 2-bedroom accommodation is fitted with all amenities including a decent kitchen area, lounge & spacious wet-room. Note that the ground floor contains one bedroom & the wet-room whilst the lounge, kitchen and bedroom with en-suite are upstairs. The location & lodge were very comfortable and everything was very well-presented - there was even an arrival gift, most welcome. In these strange times it would be worth saying that everything possible was done to make the accommodation "Covid-safe", and that was appreciated. We would like to thank Sue & Ian for making us feel very welcome indeed and I would finish by recommending the local pub for its lovely homemade food and atmosphere. Would definitely visit again.

The Lodge has all that you could possibly need for a great holiday. It is self-contained and very comfortable. It is attached to the pub but you wouldn't know it. no noise, nothing. What you do get is great hospitality and great food from Sue and Ian if you choose to eat in there. It's a very friendly place. There are woods close by to walk or you can go to other parts of the Forest of Dean, there is so much to see and do there that we hardly ventured out of the forest during the week. So much great scenery and fabulous walks. All in all, this was a great holiday in a wonderful location. p.s. our dog Bonnie enjoyed it too

A lovely gesture of wine and chocs on arrival. My daughter is disabled so wet room and downstairs bedroom were ideal. Only problem is that the lounge area is upstairs which I did not realise, so she was distanced from us. She could not come up to eat with us so we all sat in downstairs bedroom together!. Besides that it was lovely their, and would recommend it to people who can climb stairs. Myself and hubby and dog would stay again.

Very well equipped cottage. Perfect for walks near by and definitely dog friendly. We had a fantastic holiday and would happily book it again. Even wine and chocolates on arrival. Only thing I would warn people to check pub and restaurant opening times. They finish serving food at 2.30 on Sunday and closed on Mondays. However will say Susannah is an excellent cook, her faggots and mash were the best I have ever eaten.

They even took pity on us oldies and unloaded the car for us . We only stayed two nights, wished we could have been there longer but it was not possible in July. Only problem was directions to the New Inn / Brewery Cottage. Initially on the information sheet it states that when you arrive at New Road, Lydney you have got there. Only problem is that the New Inn is not in New Road. When we phoned Sue re key etc, she gave us better directions.

We were made very welcome and made use of the pub next door both for drinks and a meal. The cottage was lovely and clean with everything we needed it was very peaceful. My father struggled walking and the ground floor bedroom and wet room was ideal. We hope that we will be able to return one day.

Clean and conveniently located for our purpose. Very quiet considering attached to the pub of the owners. Owners were great and couldn't do enough for you even to the extent of personally cooking us a delicious pub meal on arrival on Sunday long after their Sunday lunch service had finished and food was no longer on offer. Local pub drinkers very friendly too. Highly recommend this cottage to anyone.

The ancient village of Blakeney lies on the southeast edge of the Royal Forest of Dean and was once a site of a Roman Villa dating back to 75AD. Equidistant to Gloucester and Monmouth, the village boasts many 16th and 17th century buildings, with a charming 16th century coaching inn, and also offers a good selection of amenities including a fish and chip shop, village store and Post Office, as well as numerous walks and cycle routes. The magnificent Royal Forest of Dean, England's largest oak forest and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, boasts numerous trails that can be explored on foot, by bike or horseback. Caving, abseiling and a high wire rope course can be enjoyed by the more adventurous, whilst fishing, golf, kayaking and canoeing are other popular activities available in this unspoilt area.
