  • "The cottage is in a lovely quite spot, comfortable beds and a well equipped kitchen."

The free wood was a bonus for the wood burner. Penny and Doug were very good hosts and the welcome pack of Croisants, homemade jam, bread and eggs was a very nice gesture. The local pub ( Black Horse ) is a must for a steak tea. The staff are very accommodating. Oyster Barn is ideally placed for all the local places of interest. We highly recommend Oyster Barn. You will not be disappointed. Steve and Sue.

The only minor issue was the weather was not good so the barn was cooler than we would have liked. Naunton village is a beautiful place and local pub very welcoming. It is a great location for visiting other Cotswold towns.

  • "We had a lovely stay meeting up with our family from London."

The two bathrooms were one of the main reasons for booking. A downstairs toilet would have been a bonus. The location was very quiet and concealed. Certainly off the “beaten track”. Personally (as the driver) I found it a little too far away from Stow on the Wold particularly at night. One point which is common to every single rental property I have stayed in is the frying pan. I normally take my own but had forgotten it. The frying pans are always scratched, lost their non stick and frequently dirty without exception. Frying pans cost around £15 for a cheap one so why aren’t they replaced say every couple of months. This is a general issue for Manor Cottages to highlight. Luckily our dog is old and arthritic so didn’t need big walks although Naunton Dovecote wasn’t far and we made it to the river. We found the owners of Oyster Barn very pleasant and had a good time.

The cottage is lovely, being very comfortable and tastefully renovated, giving a spacious feel and comes well equipped. The barn is located in a lovely quiet location with great parking. The owners, Penny & Doug are genuinely friendly and helpful, keeping their distance even though located close by. Naunton is a quiet and idyllic village, with a lovely village pub, doing lunches and evening meals. We will definitely be returning to Oyster Barn and would happily recommend it to both friends and family alike.

  • "Wonderful friendly hosts and a lovely restful week staying in this great cottage situated in a beautiful village."

Feedback suggestions only, the duvet is lovely but for summer temperatures maybe a lighter one could be substituted when it's hot. To enjoy the last of the sun in garden at night if the trees could be trimmed a little bit then it would allow guests to enjoy a glass of wine in the sun. However these are just suggestions and overall had a fantastic time.

Thank you for your nice comments. It would be helpful to know which trees you mean - the apples in the garden or the trees in our woodland area - email me direct for this. As to the summer duvets, this is really a storage issue - we just don't have enough storage space to keep another set of duvets - sorry about that. Property Owner

The situation was brilliant --right in the middle of the extremely pretty village of Naunton. We were opposite the owner's house at the end of a lane, which was surrounded but countryside. The sitting areas, outside the cottage and the extra seating area above the cottage enabled us to have sun whenever it was out! BBQ and fuel was provided. Logs for inside were free and plentiful --firelighters provided. In fact, everything we might need was provided--the owners were extremely thoughtful and generous in their provisions for guests. The beds were comfortable with beautiful bed linen. Showers effective and products provided. In the kitchen there was plenty of equipment and extra fridge and freezer space was in the garage. Naunton is placed central to Stow on the Wold, Bourton on the Water (with a wonderful co-op). Moreton on the Marsh (with a quiet and efficient minor injuries unit) and only a few miles from Cheltenham. The countryside around is so beautiful and there are walks from the door to lovely small villages. Plus so many places to visit only half an hour away. Our favourite was Adlestrop, then walking to Chastleton House(NT), with cakes and tea provided by the local WI in the church. We had a wonderful holiday. Many thanks to the kindness of the owners.

It was very clean and the beds were extremely comfortable. The showers were sublime. The configuration of the cottage worked well and the kitchen and the lounge were very well equipped and easy to enjoy. We only have a couple of comments which affected our stay - Our main comment is that the owners property is very close (much closer than the photographs imply) and looks directly into the cottage windows, so we felt a little lacking in privacy. Also, the garage and office(?) and laundry are adjoined to the cottage and are in regular use, which sent our dogs barking wildly at every sound they could hear through the wall. With regards the dogs, there was nowhere to wash them - thank goodness we took the Mud Daddy. The back garden is not directly attached to the property.

We had 3 nights at oyster barn and although we didn’t do a great lot we had a wonderful and relaxing experience. We will definitely go again. Penny left lots of provisions and her home made jam is to die for.

  • "Was a fantastic stay and we loved the cottage!"

Thank you for all the extra touches and the kids toys were fab! We really like that you had necessities there as well as that’s not always the case. The only thing (if anything) we would want would be a Nespresso coffee machine.

  • "Well appointed, cosy & very comfortable barn set in the middle of the beautiful Cotswolds."

Lovely quiet village off the beaten track in the middle of the Cotswolds with a pub within easy walking distance. Oyster barn was delightful, cosy & warm, just the place to relax and unwind. Well placed for walkers or days out a little further afield. The owners were friendly and helpful and we really enjoyed our stay and didn't want to leave. Highly recommended.

  • "Oyster Barn is a perfect cottage for a Cotswolds vacation."

Very clean and comfortable and well-appointed. Penny left us milk, eggs, bread, croissants, jam and butter for our arrival. Naunton is an idyllic and peaceful village. Very quiet and authentic. Some of the other Cotswolds villages are overrun with tourists and we were glad to have picked Naunton as our home base. The Black Horse Tavern is a short walk away and has excellent food and hospitality. The famous Cotswolds walking trails are easily accessed from Oyster Barn and there are maps provided by Penny at Oyster Barn. I would highly recommend Oyster Barn!,Matt

Accomdation first class, and comfortable; owners next door checked to see we had everything we needed. Provisions provided to welcome us. Therefore no rushing around before check in. Highly recommended great village pub! Recommend the Sunday lunch (good value). Great little fox terrier old would visit every day (name is Rhubarb) as well as all pheasant and bird life!

  • "Overall a very wonderful experience in your cottage."

Everything that we would need in a accommodation was provided including a hairdryer for my wife and daughter. Very good insulation in the cottage compared to some we have stayed in in the past. Maybe just a little bit too warm if the temperature is not that cold outside but definitely cosy though. In general everything was perfect and we would recommend this cottage to friends and online reviews. We would love to come back soon especially for your hospitality and accommodation. Loved the woodburner too.

The Lloyd Family With DogJan 2018

  • "A lovely welcome pack ( including homemade jam) and all the essentials provided in the property."

Lots of lovely touches - extra large bath towels, cosy wood burner. The barn is in a pretty village, well situated for exploring and the local pub serves good food.

  • "The Barn is beautiful and I couldn’t have asked for more."

In respect of dogs, I found plent of places to walk our boy, who was very happy. It would be good if there was somewhere gated to let them out quickly last thing and 1st thing in the morning. You also might want to invest in a gate from the kitchen to living room if dogs are staying especially for wet days. (we do have a mobile stairgate now)

The property is home to two well-presented bedrooms, sleeping up to four guests; the perfect retreat for you and your loved ones.

Upon arrival at Oyster Barn, you are welcomed by two convenient parking spaces, as you unload your luggage through the delightful stable door, into the country-style kitchen that comes well-equipped with everything you need to cook up a delicious meal for your loved ones and retreat to the dining table to indulge in your meal and toast to a wonderful holiday that lies before you.

Take the conversation through the Cotswold stone alcove and into the sitting room, which is a stylishly decorated, bright room with a wealth of character features, including a traditional wooden settle and a feature stone fireplace containing a warming woodburning stove, all complimented by contemporary furnishings such as a large Smart TV and DVD player, books and games for you to make use of for a fun-filled evening.

Wooden French doors lead you out onto the open patio area at the front of the property or you can walk up to the fenced patio garden which is located just past the log store and is accessed up beautiful wooden steps, where you will find garden furniture, a barbecue to make use of in summer months and a lovely small grass area.

When the evening gets colder, venture back inside and up to the first-floor where you will find the two well-presented bedrooms; bedroom one is a lovely eaves room, with striking exposed beams, where you can catch up on your favourite shows on the Freeview TV in your king-size bed before heading to the en-suite for a well-earned, relaxing soak in the freestanding bath.

Bedroom two, also a lovely eaves room, has eye-catching exposed beams, and a king-size bed (zip/link, can be twin on request) from which you can watch a film on the mounted TV.

In the morning, head to the wet room for an invigorating rinse in the walk-in shower before getting ready to explore the local surroundings for the day.

You are ideally placed to explore the beautiful countryside of the Cotswolds, with the centre of Naunton right on your doorstep, with the River Windrush flowing through the village which is set in a ‘bowl’ within the scenic Cotswold hills.

Nearby, you will find The Black Horse Inn which has a pleasant ambience and offers home-made, locally sourced food and lovely drinks, or you can engage in a challenging game of golf at Naunton Downs Gold Club, to show of your swing skills.

Head over to the much-loved Cotswold village of Bourton-on-the-Water, often referred to as the ‘Venice of the Cotswolds’ due to the low arched bridges that cross over the River Windrush, which boasts a variety of popular shops and attractions such as Cotswold Motoring Museum & Toy Collection and The Model Village – Bourton-on-the-Water in model form, fun days out for all!

Greystones Farm & Nature Reserve is home to wildflower meadows and a working organic farm; offering time out from the hustle and bustle of the village centre, this reserve is open to public all year round.

For a touch of history, head to Stow-on-the-Wold, and take a walk around the market square where you will find the town stock at one end which dates back to the 15th Century and is shaded by an old Elm Tree or take a stroll over to St Edward’s Parish Church where you will find the enchanting looking tree surrounded doorway, finish off with refreshing tipple at The Old Stocks Inn.

Cheltenham is just under a 30-minute drive from Oyster Barn and has a wealth of activities including the art deco Lido at Sanford Park which is a must during summer months, offering two heated outdoor pools, and many entertainment venues including the Town Hall, the Everyman Theatre, The Playhouse, Cheltenham Racecourse and The Bacon Theatre, as well as Pittville Park which is the city's largest ornamental park that includes playgrounds, a boating lake and an aviary.

About the location

NAUNTON

Bourton-on-the-Water 4 miles; Stow-on-the-Wold 5 miles.

Naunton is positioned on either sides of the River Windrush, making it very picturesque as any of its neighbours in the hills between Stow and Cheltenham. Mentioned in the Doomsday Book as Niwetone. The hill overlooking the town is great for climbing up and viewing the church and the village. The Black Horse Inn is the local pub which provides great views into the heart of the Cotswolds.

PLEASE NOTE: MINIMUM 3 NIGHT STAYS ACCEPTED AT THIS PROPERTY.

Please Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping Bond of £150.

Note: Only Monday and Friday turnarounds. For any other day's, please get in touch with us in advance.

Important - Please note if you wish to bring an infant with you, the travel cot will fit in the Master bedroom, but it is cosy.

Note: The owners have a laundry room close to the cottage, containing a washing machine and a tumble dryer, if necessary, guests may make arrangements with the owner to use the laundry room.

Note: This property has some low beams, two floors and a step into some rooms, which could pose difficulty to guests with limited mobility.

Note: Oyster Barn is a self-contained cottage, which is located in the grounds of the owners’ house.

Note: One of the king-size beds is zip/link and can be twin on request, please advise at the time of booking.

Note: Only dogs accepted. Maximum of 3 dogs.

IMPORTANT FOR ALL DOG OWNERS -

We are pleased to welcome dogs to our cottage. Naunton is a very good centre for walking. However, dog-owners should note the following:

We have white carpets upstairs and for this reason and out of hygiene consideration for other guests dogs must be kept downstairs at all times. There are stairgates in place at the bottom and the top of the stairs to help with this.

The Owner now has a large dog crate available for guests to use, if you would like this for your stay, please let us know prior to your arrival.

We have cream sofa covers in the living room in summer and, again, we must ask owners to keep their dogs off the furniture. There is a mobile stairgate which can separate the kitchen from the living room if necessary.

Please be aware that the small garden area is not adjacent to the cottage entrance, so it is not possible to just let a dog out into the garden. However, the garden is enclosed once you are in it.

Naunton is a very quiet place, but we cannot guarantee complete silence at Oyster Barn. If your dog(s) are inclined to bark at every sound, this is probably not the ideal place for you.

There are lambs and ewes grazing in the fields behind the cottage so please keep your dog(s) firmly under control outside the cottage.

We frequently have guests with dogs to stay and in nearly all cases they are able to comply with the above. By booking the cottage, you are presumed to have agreed to these conditions.
