  • "Lovely place to stay."

Really comfortable and a convenient base for so many places of interest. Our host, Rich, could not have been more helpful and welcoming. The pub on site was a real bonus as no walking involved to get a drink and relax after a day of travelling. We would definitely recommend a stay here and hope to go back.

Thanks Teresa & Martin, it was lovely hosting you both and really pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. Hope the journey home wasn’t too tedious and really hope you return in the future. Property Owner

  • "The property is clean, small but very comfortable and charming."

The bed is super comfy. The facilities are good and, although we didn't use the cooking facilities, there appears to be everything that's needed, plus 4 of all crockery etc. The shower is easily regulated with good spray power. However, the shower tray is showing signs of wear and tear and needs some minor remedial works to it's appearance. The bedding and sheets provided are of excellent quality. There is no enclosed outdoor space attached to the property, but Rich allows dogs to use the pub garden first thing in the morning and last thing at night, and there's an exercise green a short walk from the property. Look out for the adorable Marley & Luna, the owner's black Labs that will come and calmly say hello! Rich & Hannah are very welcoming and approachable and there if you need them but don't impose on your stay. The welcome pack of tea/coffee/milk, biscuits and other treats is very much appreciated, esp the delicious bottle of red wine! The property is well placed and I recommend visiting Monmouth, Chepstow, the Forest of Dean (Puzzlewood and Mallards Pike Lake), Tintern Abbey/Devil's Pulpit/The Old Station Café and the Wye Valley. There are also nice walks along the river from Lydney Harbour. There are plenty of dog friendly pubs, a short drive from the property, serving excellent meals or, if you just want a drink, the Netherend Inn is very friendly and welcoming and just a walk across the drive! We had a really enjoyable week at the property and if I could make a suggestion to improve, it is to provide somewhere to dry the bath sheets, such as 2 large wall hooks, or a heated towel rail, or possibly a folding clothes airer, which would be useful if you need to rinse any clothes out as well. We both, and our 2 dogs, had a fab stay thank you , and hope to be back again!

Hi Lorraine Thanks for your feedback and glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Appreciate the suggestions and we’re already planning to install a towel rail when we have a couple of free days. We’d love to see you all again and hope you had a better journey home than getting here. Property Owner

Bed very comfortable and excellent shower. Used the pull out bed in living area, very easy to use and comfortable. Rich is an excellent host very helpful and knowledgeable of the surrounding area so a special thanks to him for making our family reunion so special. Very dog friendly and loved meeting Marley and Luna. Will certainly visit again. Thank you very much Elaine and Sammy (the Yorkie)

  • "We had the most comfortable stay at Netherend."

The cottage is all you need. The floor heating makes it so nice. It is very clean, has all you need for a superb stay. The owners are very friendly people. We felt very welcomed. Also, they were there for anything we needed. The pub next to the cottage is a pleasure to be in. All people were very friendly, you can tell the owners built a good relationship with the people in the surrounding area. We will for sure come back. And will recommend the cottage to our friends. The area is very beautiful, lots of nice walks. On arrival we had a very warm welcome and a big basket of goodies was waiting for us - this was very generous and also included treats for our dog. All the best to Richard & family! Veronica, Gavin & Ivy

Thanks Veronica, Gavin and we will never forget the lovable Ivy. We’re really happy that you enjoyed your stay with us and appreciate the feedback and recommendations. Hopefully see you again in 2024. Rich, Hannah & Team Nethy Property Owner

  • "Cosy and suitable for two with a comfortable bed and super shower."

Very dog friendly with large safe space for canine exercise. A generous welcome pack including dog treats was a nice surprise. Owner, Richard, is very friendly and helpful and he also runs the pub opposite. We found that the proximity of the pub was a plus rather than a minus and didn't disturb us at all. An "open all hours" general stores with post office is a short walk away.

The locals in the pub were also very friendly and made me and my dog feel very welcome. I will definitely stay here again when I am next in the area.

  • "Ideal cottage for myself and my dog."

The welcome package with the bottle of wine and snacks for the dog and myself was a lovely touch that we both appreciated. The local walks were easy to find and explore, as I have never been anywhere with so many signed footpaths and walkways. Richard the host was very welcoming and helpful during my stay. I would happily book again when visiting my family in the Forest of Dean. The addition of an outside light would make it perfect..

Hi Shirley The outside light is now in place and thanks for pointing that out to us. Really appreciate the feedback and glad you enjoyed your stay Property Owner

Richard, property owner is the most pleasant of men, nothing too much trouble. Property is immaculate, and on arrival we had a lovely surprise of a bottle of wine, dog treats and lots of goodies to eat. Fresh milk in the fridge, tea bags, sugar and coffee all available for us, a very personal touch we thought. Our dog was made to feel equally welcome. Richard even booked our meals prior to our arrival , at a local pub. His welcome pack was very good and included various take aways that deliver and lots of other useful information . Locals very friend too. Highly recommended.

  • "This made the perfect base for the few days break we wanted to explore the Forest of Dean."

Rich made us very welcome, and although compact as advertised the cottage had all the facilities we needed. Rich is in hand with getting a blind over the velux window and the door; until then light I'd advise anyone who wakes up when it gets light to take a sleep mask. No food at the pub, but several good options nearby; lot of footpaths to exercise the dog.

Alastair Thanks for the feedback and we’re looking into the blind options for the skylight. Property Owner
