"Very sweet little cottage in beautiful quiet surroundings."
Friendly helpful owners.
-
"Wonderful property, lovely location being a short drive from Ross-on-Wye but very peaceful, the property is very well presented with everything you need, bathroom with bath and shower plus a second w."
C, well equipped kitchen/ diner and comfy lounge area, owners live next-door and are lovely, helpful people but not intrusive, would definitely book again.
-
"Thank you very much to Mary & Dorian for a pleasant stay in your lovely Bothy."
The facilities were excellent and the setting was beautiful & so peaceful. The added bonus was the lovely patio overlooking the surrounding fields with the sheep grazing.
-
"This was a really lovely little cottage just perfect for a quiet weekend away."
The owners were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend.
-
"What a lovely place the owners and their family are really friendly and helpful"
-
"A lovely quiet comfortable cottage."
Light and spacious open plan living area. Excellent hosts making sure our stay was very relaxing.
-
"Unfortunately there were many cobwebs, dead insects and dusty bowls etc."
No continuous hot water even after host twice looked at the boiler. Note: No hairdryer provided so take your own! Beware of the garden bench - not safe to sit on. We won't be returning.
-
"The owners were extremely kind to us when the storms caused the electricity to go off on Monday evening and then again on Tuesday."
The negative points of the Bothy were: 1. the lack of continuous hot water: we could have a wash or wash up only in the morning because in the evening there was no hot water at all. 2. There were a lot of cobwebs around. The owner mentioned the cleaner was new, so I suggest they tell her/him to just move a chair or a curtain.

"The Bothy is quirky, but we like it because it suits our dog, is quiet and easily accessible off the M50 (which we cannot hear from the site)."
The property has a grass run from the patio towards a field; the run is gated and our dog likes to run up and down it chasing balls thrown. Phocle Green is also near to lovely little towns such as Newent and Ledbury using the M50, both of which we prefer to Ross-on-Wye (best part of Ross is the Riverside Walk, which is lovely. Also, Hereford and Tintern Abbey are easily reached by car.
-
"Mary and Dorian are so so welcoming."
Thoroughly recommend to anybody to book the bothy
-
"Extremely nice hosts and cottage."
Well equipped and clean. Secure outdoor space for the dog with permissive access paths right on your doorstep. Would recommend!
-
"We had a very pleasant 3 night stay at The Bothy."
Everything was as expected and we were very comfortable there. The enclosed area for the dog was perfect for her. We shall certainly use it again.
-
"This is a lovely place to stay."
It is well equipped and the bed is extra comfy. Electric radiators were easy to adjust and kept the cottage pleasantly warm.
-
"Excellent cottage."
Welcoming owners.(Mary and Dorian). The area is so quiet and relaxing, but transport is required. Used as a base for visiting the local areas, towns and villages. Would definitely book this cottage again. Thanks

"We had a lovely week staying at the Bothy."
Set in a very quiet location with a lovely suntrap patio area and enclosed run for our dog. The bed was very comfortable we slept like logs. The owners were very welcoming, friendly and helpful.
-
"Beautiful cottage in perfect location"
-
"Well equipped comfortable cottage."
The bed and bedding was of a high standard. The bathroom was chilly . The owners were very welcoming and approachable.
-
"A perfect little barn conversion."
We loved our stay at the Bothy. Such a lovely space to relax in. The Bothy is perfectly situated in the Wye Valley. Highly recommend
-
"Had a loverly couple of days at the bothy."
Would thoroughly recommend.
-
"The Bothy is in such a great position."
Easily accessible off the end of the M50 with quick journeys to nice towns like Rosson-wye, Monmouth, Ledbury and Newent. Not too far from Tintern Abbey either. We holidayed with our lady lurcher dog who really enoyed the grass run that is off the back of the property. Inside it is an excellent and restful Bothy with more space than the Sykes pictures suggest. We thoroughly enjoyed 'chilling out' and doing short trips. The surrounding grounds are beautifully kept and the local road/lane fine for short dog walks. For real dog exercise space we found a dog field about 15minutes away at Redmayes on the Gloucester road off the M50, two junctions to the east.
-
"We loved the Bothy it had everything we needed, a lovely private sun trap garden in a pretty setting."
Great place to relax and read with the sound of birds and deer grazing right up to the back garden. Excellent location for Ross. Very friendly owners who recommended the Alma pub at Linton which was great. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay
-
"Enjoyed our stay."
Made to feel welcome, Clean, comfortable and well equipped.
-
"PILLOWS! We always take our pillows with us when we travel because poor sleep can be a deal breaker for a good holiday - we needn't have bothered though because The Bothy has the most comfortable bed ever!"
! Add to that everything you could need a for a quiet little escape to the country, including great road connections for easy access to Ross, Hay, Hereford etc. Make sure you don't miss Symonds Yat Rock which has beautiful wood and river walks too. Mary & Dorian were the perfect hosts - there if you need, but otherwise you are left to your own devices. We really enjoyed our stay :)

"Lovely stay."
The bothy was very homely and the hosts extremely welcoming and helpful. Facilities all very clean and in excellent condition and nicely furnished. We had a lovely time in the area - it is so quiet (no road noise for anyone wondering) and was lovely waking to bird song each morning! The valley in which the property is situated has a lovely path for an evening stroll (though no access to Upton Bishop as the OS map suggests) and we did a number of longer walks in the Wye Valley and wider area (Symonds Yat, Tintern Abbey, Sugar Loaf & Forest of Dean). The owners recommended the Alma at Lintern for food, which was a lovely village pub - though worth calling ahead for food as their kitchen is small! All in all, an excellent holiday and we would happily stay again.
-
"Clean, quiet and comfortable."
Nice hosts. Good base for touring the area, 5 minutes drive to Ross town centre.
-
"The cottage was in an extremely peaceful location and was beautifully presented and clean."
The owners were very welcoming. We would highly recommend The Bothy
-
"Lovely, comfortable cottage with everything we needed for our stay"
-
"The lovely couple that own The Bothy are so welcoming and we had a fantastic long weekend with lots of river walks nearby and our Spaniel loved it !"
-
"A 5* experience!"
'The Bothy' is a delightful place for a vacation. It is adjacent to the owners property, 'The Coach House', in a lovely rural location, within easy reach of a range of places to visit. The owners are a delightful couple who are friendly and knowledgeable should you wish to discuss the locality or have any issues (unlikely as The Bothy is presented in an excellent condition). The accommodation is attractive with original features such as wall and ceiling beams, whilst having been tastefully modernised to provide all key facilities. Our dog was nicely catered for with an enclosed patio area and semi-enclosed garden/field area for exercise and fun. The nearest pub, The Moody Cow, was already fully booked across the weekend we were there, so booking before you arrive is advised, as it looks to be very nice (they only take email or 'phone bookings). Ross-on-Wye (~10 mins) appears, most unfortunately, to have suffered in recent times with many vacant shops. Of the local towns Monmouth (~15 mins) was the most delightful, with a wide selection of independent shops as well as a small Waitrose and M&S Food Store, alongside a wide range of restaurants. Even though it was only a weekend break, we thoroughly enjoyed visits to Symonds Yat (~15 mins) and 'Waterfall Country' in the Brecon Beacons (~1.5 hrs).
-
"Spotlessly clean ."
Totally relaxing. Mary and dorian the owners were extremely accommodating, they are both salt of the earth lovely couple. Totally enjoying relaxed holiday.
-
"This is an excellent little base for a couple to explore the area, very comfy bed"
-
"Very cosy and comfortable and great quiet location."
Good for touring and pubs not too far away for meals.
-
"Lovely cottage with great access to the Wye Valley."
Would definitely recommend
-
"Enjoyable stay at the Bothy, Wonderful Location very Peaceful."
-
"Mattress lumpy and sloping to either side making sleep impossible."
Complained to owner, nothing done or offered. Left after one miserable night. No refund or gesture of goodwill. Basically tough!
-
"The location was ideal and the cottage itself was excellent, well equiped and furnished to a high standard ,very cosy and welcoming."
The owners were very welcoming and helpful. Would cetainly stay there again when visiting the beautiful Wye Valley and surrounding countryside.
-
"We had an amazing time at the Bothy."
It was clean, warm, comfortable, and quiet. The Osborne's were very lovely, attentive, yet respectful of our privacy. We had everything we needed and could not have enjoyed our time more. Thank you!
-
"Home from home ."
.. comfortable, exceptionally clean and the owners were very friendly and helpful .
-
"Stairs are very steep for anyone with mobility problems."
Owners were lovely, couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming ,a lovely peaceful spot to relax and unwind. thank you
-
"We had everything to hand we needed."
Furniture was comfortable. Heating was easy to use and temperature just as we liked. It was peaceful and quiet, and great to relax. The surrounding countryside was stunning and we walked miles. Just what we wanted. Even the rain didn't sent our spirits.
-
"Owners were delightful and took every effort to ensure we had a good stay"
-
"Extremely caring and helpful owners."
Lovely location and patio for sitting out, also great garden space for the dog. It would be good to have a washing machine if staying any length of time, also more places to hang clothes and coats.
-
"There was nowhere to hang our coates, especially when they were wet, or to put muddy boots/shoes."
(I believe the owner is aware of this). We were unfamiliar with the oven to start with but eventually found the instructions in the drawer with the tourist brochures. (Maybe any user instructions could be left out.). The owners were friendly and welcomingand were readily available if we had needed them. (They gave advice on the best pub with food in the area - we took them at their word and they were right!) It was an enjoyable break.
-
"This is a comfortable and well appointed holiday let, within reasonable distance of places of interest."
Owners are most helpful. We were well satisfied and if we took another holiday in the area we would stay there again.
-
"A comfortable cottage in a lovely rural area."
Very peaceful.
-
"The mattress on my side was beyond its best and I constantly felt I was rolling out of bed."
No hair dryer for my wife and crumbs on the work top when we arrived. Needs a deep clean
-
"Very comfortable in a gorgeous spot"
-
"Lovely break in a superb location."
Couldn't have been nicer hosts, very attentive and eager to ensure we had everything we needed.
-
"Welcoming hosts."
Very comfortable cosy cottage in a fantastic location. Ideal for that little getaway. Dog friendly with private patio.
-
"We enjoyed our stay, were made to feel very welcome by our hosts and appreciated the quiet environment around us."
We’d recommend The Bothy as it’s both a quiet retreat and there are plenty of interesting things to see and do in the area.
-
"The owners' house is alongside the Bothy but it still felt private and the outdoor seating area is not overlooked (except by sheep)."
The cottage was lovely for a quiet winter break. It warmed up quickly with well placed electric heaters. The WiFi was mostly good. We didn't get any mobile signal. All in all the cottage was as we expected it to be and we had a peaceful time which is what we wanted.
-
"For personal reasons we had to depart on 17."
9.18 (my mother passed away). The owner of the property was very kind. We would like to return to this area at some point and the Bothy was a lovely property.
-
"The Bothy was set in beautiful surroundings near to the main owners house."
The owners were very friendly and helpful and were also very welcoming towards our golden retriever. The facilities in the Bothy were excellent though I would have loved a small TV in the bedroom as well as the lounge only because I just love relaxing in bed watching the TV before going to sleep. Only a minor complaint. The situation of the Bothy was very convenient for the M50 and also the main roads to Ross on Wye and Hereford. Going away from the towns you were immediately in the countryside and close to some excellent forest walks. A very good few days break for all of us.
-
"Cottage was very convenient for Ross on Wye and central to all the other places of interest."
The owners could not have been more helpful and friendlier.
-
"The Bothy is located just outside the Village of Phocle Geen, about three miles from Ross on Wye."
The access to the property is down an unmade track from the B4221 and can be hard to find. The Kitchen/Sitting room is upstairs and there is access to the patio area which has a small table a chair and a two seater sofa. The bedroom is downstairs, which was particularly nice given that it was very cool in the recent very hot weather. The couple who own the cottage were fantastic, welcoming and very helpful, providing information about taxi services, where to shop and things to see in the area.
-
"The instructions to find the cottage made it easy to find & when we arrived we were made most welcome & shown around being also told if there was anything we required just ask."
The cottage was very nice with pleasant surroundings, nice & peaceful suitable for our requirements.
-
"Such a relaxing place to stay."
. Only about 2 miles from Ross on Wye but felt like miles from anywhere.
-
"We have stayed at numerous Sykes' cottages over the years but I must admit that the owners of the Bothy are the most helpful we have come across."
They even took my wife to a local historical society meeting as they knew we were interested in moving to the area. This is an upside down cottage with the living room on the first floor. It is very cosy and the the surrounding countryside is bursting with wildlife. From the living room you can exit the cottage and follow a small path down to the ground level so that dogs do not need to negotiate the fairly steep steps inside the cottage. Apparently one visitor had complained that the wifi was not working properly so the owners have installed a new system. When we arrived they checked the new system with us and I am pleased to say that it worked perfectly for the whole week. There is no mobile reception within the cottage but you only need to step outside to restore services. A great property with exceptional owners.
-
"The hosts were lovely and willing to go out of their way to be of help and the cottage was lovely"

The cottage was delightful and set in picturesque and peaceful countryside.
