  • "Lovely place to stay."

Few things need attention though Bathroom door is very very stiff Heated rail in bathroom really needs mending as it's a bit chilly showering with no heating in the mornings But lovely place to stay

Thank you for comments - we are glad you have had a lovely stay. We have asked maintenance to attend to investigate and rectify as necessary. Kind Regards, Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "Clean, comfortable and well-supplied."

Easy drive to Cirencester and other Cotswold villages. Using the post code with Google maps leads to misleading location. Falcon Inn across the street is a real bonus!

Kitchen and bathroom outstanding. Location ideal for exploring the Cotswolds. We had everything we needed for the week - shame about the weather.

  • "Lovely character property with parking."

Real fire and modern shower brilliant. Minor things bedding a bit tired and stained on removing covers. No oven gloves as mentioned before and the two mugs both have chips on them. So nearly perfect the points are minors

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay at The Hermitage and have noted your comments and passed them on to housekeeping and the owner. Best wishes, Character Cottages Property Owner

  • "A lovely week in all."

We had abit of confusion with the recycling as it wasn't immediately obvious until owner came and showed my husband. We used the oven several times, but due to the numbers around the dials being faded, we had to gauge temperature - not a deal breaker but abit of a pain. Also a pair of oven gloves would have been useful. There was only one tumbler glass - a few more would be good.

Fabulous you enjoyed your stay. Apologies for the confusion with regards to the recycling. We appreciate your comments and will have them addressed. Best Wishes, Character Cottages Property Owner

  • "Amazing property in an amazing area."

Wish we could have stayed longer. Had a Nice relaxed stay, couldn’t have wanted anymore out the property, the shower was amazing. We tried the pub next door but found the locals rude when entering & menu not to our taste, so went to mason arms, much nicer. The grounds of the property were kept very nice and was private and secluded. We’ll be back again one day.

Thank you for your amazing comments on your stay at The Hermitage! Property Owner

  • "This is a lovely property in a great location."

It was spacious, well furnished and the bed was very comfortable. This would be a great place to stay at any time of the year. If I am being picky, a microwave would be handy. There were no toilet rolls or bin bags but I had taken some so it wasn’t a problem.

We are so happy to hear that you loved the property and the location and that you had a good night's sleep. Your comments have been noted and we apologise for the housekeeping omission. Best wishes, Character Cottages Property Owner

The property

The Hermitage is a romantic Cotswold stone cottage, located in the large grounds of a beautiful manor house in the picturesque village of Poulton.

The property is the perfect retreat for a couple who are seeking some time away from the hustle and bustle of normal life, in the stunning countryside.

Park-up in the private parking space directly outside the cottage and enter through the oak front door, into the beautiful main living space, which consists of a large king-size bed, a dining table, a small sofa and an armchair, a warming wood burning stove and a Smart TV; the perfect room for relaxing of an evening with your loved one with a glass of wine, as you are kept warm and toasty from the stove.

A step leads down from the living area to the well-presented kitchen, which contains all the appliances you require to rustle up a wonderful dinner, to be enjoyed over candle light at the dining table.

Located off the kitchen, the bathroom contains a large walk-in shower where you can enjoy an invigorating rinse, as well as a basin and WC.

Directly outside the cottage, there is a private, non enclosed garden area, where you will find a peaceful patio area, with a table and four chairs, plus a charcoal barbecue to make use of when the weather allows!

Although small, Poulton has a well-regarded pub, The Falcon Inn, which is a traditional British country dining pub with a focus on locally brewed cask ales, an interesting wine list and classic English menu.

Enjoy a leisurely stroll around the village and venture into the nearby park to admire the stunning scenery.

The village is a short drive away from the Roman town of Cirencester, the largest market town in the Cotswolds, where you will find an array of shops along the Market Place and can brush up on some history at Corinium Museum which shows impressive Roman artifacts that have been well-preserved.

Burford, the “gateway to the Cotswolds” is close by, which is a town with some fantastic shops, restaurants and tourist attractions including Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens, a landscaped parkland filled with nature and also Tolsey Museum, which has local history, culture, and industry collections.

Venture slightly further afield to the wonderful village of Bourton-on-the-Water, which straddles the River Windrush and is affectionately known as the ‘Venice of the Cotswolds’, where you can view an extensive collection of vintage cars and motoring exhibits alongside historic toys and a gift shop, or enjoy some time amongst the wildlife and discover over 500 birds at Birdland Park and Gardens.

For a romantic stay in the Cotswolds with your dearest one, stay at The Hermitage.

About the location

POULTON

Fairford 3.3 miles; Gloucester 23.3 miles; Cirencester 5.5 miles; Stow-on-the-Wold 22.1 miles.

Poulton is a small rural historic village situated close to the Cotswolds’ Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, approximately 24 miles south east of Gloucester. Poulton was registered in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Poltone. Historically, the village was part of the county of Wiltshire and for centuries was—physically detached from Wiltshire – an enclave of Gloucestershire. In 1844, Poulton became part of Gloucestershire under the Counties (Detached Parts) Act. Poulton is now home to a community run village shop, a local pub, The Falcon Inn, a traditional British country dining pub serving locally brewed cask ales, an interesting wine list and classic English dishes and a village hall. The thriving market town of Fairford is just over three miles away nestling on the River Coln, and offers many amenities including individual shops, cafes and traditional pubs, as well as hosting a weekly country market offering home grown and homemade produce and country crafts. RAF Fairford is home of the Royal International Air Tattoo, held in July every year, one of the largest military air shows in the world with a reputation as one of the UK's top outdoor family events. Just a short drive away is the beautiful Roman town of Cirencester, gateway to the Cotswolds, which offers excellent shopping, restaurants, ancient buildings, museums and antique markets. The Cotswold Water Park is Britain’s largest water park, set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, covering 40 square miles and made up of over 40 lakes. A wide range of activities is on offer including water skiing, cycling, horse riding, boating, golf and fishing and for the nature lovers the park offers an abundance of bird and animal life, all of which can be seen throughout the year on the three nature reserves. A little further afield visit the historic town of Malmesbury with its 12th century Benedictine abbey and Westonbirt Arboretum with an extensive collection of trees and shrubs. The honey-coloured Cotswold towns of Stow-on-the-Wold and Bourton-on-the-Water and the university city of Oxford are also easily accessible. Poulton is an excellent location for touring this varied area.
