  • "I have already told the owner that it would be unfair to write a review."

The cottage was lovely BUT they did not mention a building site at the back of the property!!! From 7.45 in the morning they were doing groundworks to the plot. There were Lorrie’s coming and going and lots of machinery. The sounds of them and when they were reversing was enough to put anybody off. It would have been impossible to sit out I had to keep the door closed. Machines (two cement mixers) were parked right up to the back garden wall right outside the property. I do not think it was right that building works were not mentioned in your advert as obviously I would not have booked. Mrs D Rawcliffe

Thank you for your feedback. It really is unfair for the review to impact our rating so negatively for something that is well outside of our control. The construction work is on the other side of the road from the back garden of the property. We have been advised by the developer they do not have deliveries before 9am and keep all noise to minimum due to the school near by. Work in the surrounding area is outside of our control. Sorry to hear it was noisy for your stay. Hopefully we will see you back at the property in the future. Property Owner

  • "The property was excellent!"

We stayed for four nights as a couple. First impression: easy to locate, generous parking spaces, very clean outside and inside and tastefully furnished. The "welcome pack" (bread and milk) was a nice touch. Downstairs WC was handy. The house has been very thoughtfully equipped. And we had a peaceful stay - neighbouring properties were quiet and although the house is next to a road, it didn't disturb us much at night. It was our first visit to the Forest of Dean area and we had a delightful time - saw deer a few times and wild boar! We are definitely coming back and hope to stay in this property if available. The only downside - which is really down to the area - is the poor mobile phone coverage; we used 02 and Vodafone but there was very poor or no mobile phone and mobile internet reception in the Forest of Dean area. Not really a problem for us really as we enjoyed the peace and quiet and could use WhatsApp or Wifi calling for anything urgent :)

Thank you for a lovely feedback. We haven't yet been able to see deer or wild boar. So glad you managed to see some. We look forward to welcoming you again soon. Property Owner

  • "A lovely cottage giving easy access to the Forest of Dean."

It has all you need for a comfortable stay and a suntrap garden. Contact with the hosts, when needed, was easy ( we had a visit from wild boar that they needed to know about). We'll certainly use it again when we visit family here

We really appreciate your message and thank you so much for all your help. So glad you enjoyed your stay and the Garden. South facing direction definitely provide plenty of sun rays. We look forward to see you again soon. Take care. Property Owner

  • "We stayed at the house for 5 nights in early April."

The positives: Great location for visiting the Wye Valley & Forest of Dean. Comfortable beds & nice shower (as you would expect in a new build property). Nice and warm. Good off street parking and a bike storage box. The not so positives: We had no idea that there would be planned construction work going on very close to the property, which started noisily at 7:30am (new houses being built). We would not have booked the property had we known, as we wanted a really relaxing time following a recent stressful event. I believe the listing has been updated now so that future guests are aware. Within the house, a few coat hooks downstairs and a proper wardrobe upstairs would be great.

Thank you for the positive feedback Mrs Salter. The construction work is on the other side of the road from the back garden of the property and does not start until 8 am as per the permitted construction hours. Unfortunately we weren't aware of the plan for the noisy work around your stay to lay the pipes and new access road. This work has completed now. Work in the surrounding area is outside of our control and other guests have had no complains about the noise. Sorry to hear it was noisy for your stay. Hopefully we will see you back at the property in the future. Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderful time at ‘The Old School House’."

The property is beautifully presented, spotlessly clean and had everything we needed for our long weekend break. The location is perfect, as it is central to the main points of interest in the Forest of Dean and easily accessible to towns such as Monmouth and Ross on Wye. The outdoor storage unit was really useful for storing our bikes. We had a fabulous time and felt very at home; we will definitely be back! Thank you so much.

So pleased to hear you had such a wonderful time. Thank you for a lovely feedback. See you again soon. Property Owner

  • "Overall we had a great stay."

The house was clean, warm and comfortable and a good base to explore the Forest of Dean. We did feel there a few basics that were missing in the kitchen e.g chopping board, extra saucepan (there were only 2), sieve. Also, there was nowhere to hang coats downstairs. Better information about rubbish/ recycling would have been welcomed as it was quite complicated with the various containers! However, these were small things and we would definitely return to this property.

Thank you for your feedback. We have tried to provide all the basics including chopping board and sieve. We do hope you had looked in all the units. We will try and add more information about rubbish/recycling to help future guests. Look forward to having you back again soon. Property Owner

  • "A lovely cottage providing all you need to a short break or a longer stay."

The property is immaculate and the furnishings and utilities have been chosen with care. During my recent stay following a bereavement, I found the property peaceful and private and I felt safe. This is especially important when staying somewhere on your own in unfamiliar surroundings. Lovely south facing garden to sunbathe in as well so I plan to be back before too long and recommend it to all whether alone or as a family as there is plenty to do around the area as well within a short distance.

Thank you Lynne, we really appreciate your feedback. Our south facing garden is definitely well suited to grab some rays and your stay was perfectly timed. We look forward to having you back again soon. Property Owner

  • "We had a great stay at The 2 Old School."

We are family of four so the whole property was all we needed (including garden). Everything looks like on the pictures. We felt very welcome since we opened the door. Although we brought our own gear it was nice to find bread, milk and pack of biscuits in the kitchen. We picked this property because of good location. It is a fab point to go cycling, walking and canoeing.Town centre is 10-15 min walk which we found convenient for shops and local butchers/produce. We will definitely come back one day because there is so much more to explore in the Forest of Dean.
