"Cottage is beautiful, and exactly what we wanted."
When we arrived cottage was so warm and cosy (weather was terrible). Lots of games to entertain us as we could not get out for walks. All beds were very comfortable with lovely linen. We had a few things that needed sorting, and skyes were so helpful, and we had a response within minutes. The local pub the Rose and Crown, was perfect. We popped in for a drink the day we arrived, and for dinner the next day. I would say the best pub meal I have had in a long time, would defiantly recommend!
Thank you for your lovely feedback. We are so pleased to hear how much you enjoyed your stay at Rood Cottage and the lovely local Pub too. We would love to welcome you again for another stay with us soon. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner

"A beautiful cottage, very well equipped, warm and cosy."
Very much appreciated the welcome gifts of milk, butter, cheese and orange juice. The Rose and Crown pub in the village did a wonderful Sunday lunch, highly recommended. We enjoyed the walk to Burford across the fields. We hope to return in the future.
Thank you for your lovely feedback, we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Best Wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

"The heating needs looking at……."
Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay and we are sorry that you encountered this issue. Although maintenance attended promptly and could not resolve this, the owners plumber was contacted and this has now been fixed. Best wishes, Manor Cottages Property Owner

"A gem of a place."
Beautiful inside and out. A lovely classic Cotswolds setting, with the feeling of being hidden away but with shops and activities nearby. Lovely walks straight out the door. A very special stay. Thank you.

"Really loved the cottage, very in tune with the village."
Parking not an issue for us as we only had one car but looked to be plenty of options near the ford for anyone with more cars, as described in the literature. No need to park on the narrow lane. The locals were really friendly. Would definitely recommend the pub- lovely food and atmosphere. Couple of points for the owners- couldn’t find the scissors but they were listed on the inventory. Also, the key set only had two on there- folder details say there should be three. Nothing for the gate so we just bolted it when we left.

"We had a wonderful stay and it exceeded our expectations with regards to how well organised the property was."
The kitchen was incredibly well stocked with cookware and tea/coffee supplies. I could have even cook a full Sunday roast! Our children loved experiencing a character property and we hope to return next year.
We are happy to hear you had a wonderful stay and that your stay was like a home from home! We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future. Kind Regards, Manor Cottages Property Owner

"We (family of 6) had a lovely stay in Rood Cottage!"
Very clean en tidy when we arrived. The kitchen was fully equipped, en luckily with induction cooking instead of wood burning stove! This was said in de description so it might be neccessary to change that. Beautiful cities nearby so we enjoyed our stay enormously!
Thank you for this lovely review. We're delighted you and your family had such a great stay at Rood Cottage and managed to visit some of the Cotswold attractions. We would love to welcome you again. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

"Beautiful cottage in beautiful area"

"Lovely cottage, nice welcome pack which was much appreciated, the only drawback was the size of the parking space as it was very tight for a Landrover Discovery, a big car I admit, but the gates are at an awkward angle."
Might be worth noting that in the text. Otherwise it was very good and pretty well equipped. Beautiful location.
Thank you for your feedback, we're glad you enjoyed the cottage and the beautiful location. As you hopefully found from the instructions in the welcome pack, there is ample free on-street parking in the village for those with large vehicles. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay and the welcome pack. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

"We chose dog friendly Rood Cottage for its quiet village location, log burner and walking distance to a local pub."
It did not disappoint. We arrived to a warm, clean, full of Cotswolds charm home, with stunning views of the little village. The car parking space was plenty big enough for our large car. We loved the Rose and Crown pub just down the road…amazing hosts, great food, real fires and super dog friendly. We highly recommend the cottage and would definitely stay again.
Thank you for your amazing feedback. We are delighted that you loved your stay at Rood Cottage. We hope we can welcome you and your dog back again. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

"Provided us with exactly what we needed - the chance to share a significant birthday with a disabled family member who can't travel or accommodate."
We had to round up the air 'fresheners' and confine them to the boiler room (one of us is allergic!) and we found the ovens a bit hard to get them to do what we wanted (us, not you, we're not used to that style of cooker) but otherwise everything was perfect and the freebies are delightfully welcoming. Thank you for making your very lovely cottage available to us.
Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay at Rood Cottage. It's lovely to hear your celebrated an important family birthday at the house, i hope you had a lovely time. Thank you for the tip reference the cooker, i will see of we cam get something to show guests how to use it. We would love to welcome you back again in the future for another celebration. "Rood Cottage in Shilton is idyllic if you want peace and relaxation."
Beautiful location. Cottage so well equipped. Beds comfortable. Lovely linens. Very modern bathroom with heated towel rails, lovely towels. Farmhouse type kitchen with so many cupboards with copious amounts of crockery, pans, dishes, cutlery. Lovely range - never used one before but managed to work out the induction hobs despite the instructions

"This cottage is in a great location, a couple of miles outside of Burford in the beautiful village of Shilton."
The cottage is well equipped and very warm and cosy and the garden is a lovely little spot to sit in. The secure parking space behind the gates is very convenient and the local pub is definitely worth a visit. We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay.
Thank you for taking time to leave this feedback. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay and the local area. Best wishes, Manor Cottages Property Owner

"Fabulous cottage, excellent location, very peaceful setting, spotlessly clean."
Small outside area, in a lovely quiet village.

"We had a lovely stay at the cottage."
It was clean, comfortable, peaceful and homely. Bedding, books, games, kitchen equipment, etc, were all great. The garden and views from the house were beautiful and although we didn’t eat at the pub this time, it was friendly and welcoming. Plenty to do in the area and we did both the walks from the cottage and really enjoyed them. Would definitely recommend - thank you.
Thank you so much for this lovely review. We're delighted you enjoyed your stay at Rood Cottage and found it to be so peaceful and well equipped. We hope to welcome you back again. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

"Beautiful cottage in a beautiful village."
very cosy with nice bedrooms and bathroom, large kitchen and cosy living room. the only disappointment was that the cooker was left dirty with the hotplate covered in a layer of grease and the oven looked like it hadn't been cleaned for a while. the rear garden although nice isn't really usable as it is just one huge flowerbed filled with thorny roses. no good if you have a small dog with you.
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. Our country cottage garden is a relaxing place to dine al fresco and enjoy the sweetly scented roses in bloom, but we do ask that dogs not be left unattended in the garden to respect the neighbours. We have welcomed many happy furry friends that have enjoyed the great walks at the doorstep and curling up in front of the fire. We're delighted you loved the cottage and location but sorry to hear that the cleanliness was not up to our usual high standards. Your comments have been passed on to the Property Manager for review. We hope to welcome you again. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

"The cottage was wonderful The location in Shilton couldn’t be better."
This cottage was the most value for money of all the accommodation I searched for in the Cotswold area. The village was so beautiful we would have been happy living there! We hosted a number of family members and they all loved it, the dogs too! For six adults the living room was a bit cozy but it worked The parking spot was tight for sure and the second car was parked close in on the road behind it. The white transit van also made it trickier to get in and out, however we soon got used to it. It would be handy to either unbolt the front door or put the keypad on the back door as I spent some time in the dark trying to unlock the front door which was bolted from the inside …also the bulb had gone by the front door too. I would have given it five stars otherwise
We are glad you loved the cottage and location. thank you for your comments, we will pass these on to our maintenance team. We hope you enjoyed your time with your family. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

"A truly comfortable, home from home in a beautiful setting."
We loved it! Be careful with parking outside the church hall though as the neighbours saw fit to pay us a visit to check it was our car!
We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay and the location. Just to confirm, there is private parking available for you to use on the property. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

"We stayed at Rood Cottage with my mum who was on a visit from Lebanon."
We really wanted to show her to Cotswolds. Little did we know she would love Rood Cottage as much as she loved all the beautiful little villages we toured. The cottage is finished to a high standard. The kitchen and garden are sublime! The living area has a real English countryside feel: an absolute gem! The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable; and the deep bathtub perfect for a relaxing bath. The welcome gift of cookies, crisps and ice cream, was greeted with joy, as we were all - at that point - in need of tea and cookies! A really remarkable cottage in a great location, with a peaceful view over the field, where horses would greet us from in the mornings. Definitely recommended! Thank you for this lovely review. We're delighted that you and your mum enjoyed your stay and all the visits to surrounding villages. We would love to welcome you again in the future. Manor Cottages Property Owner

"We had a very pleasant 3 day stay at the cosy Rood Cottage."
The accommodation is finished to a very high standard and certainly boasts luxury. It had all the amenities you would ever need and you can see that the owner has definitely gone the extra mile / two to ensure their guests would be very comfortable. The beds were the most comfortable I’d ever slept in and the furnishings and selection of games, books and TV options provided was excellent. The top bedroom could have done with a skylight window as it did feel very small with just the one window, but for young kids (and not holidaying during a heatwave!) it would be absolutely fine. Having never used a range cooker before, we had trouble working out the induction hob on day one as didn’t realise that you need the pan on the hob for it to work! Otherwise the instructions on everything else were very clear. Would have valued the option to have an earlier check in time and late check out time. Small touches like having orange juice, milk and biscuits left for us on arrival were appreciated and gave the holiday a personal touch which always makes for a nicer experience. A lovely cottage set in a beautiful location and one we would certainly recommend. Thank you
Thank you kindly for your feedback, Rood Cottage is new to our portfolio so we are thrilled to hear that you had an enjoyable stay with us. We will take on board your comments with regard to the instructions for the induction hob. With best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

About the location
Burford
Burford is possibly one of, if not THE most famous of the Cotswolds' locations. With its medieval bridge, old stone houses and attractive Tudor and Georgian frontages, Burford is justifiably one of the most picturesque towns in England. Often referred to as the 'Gateway to the Cotswolds', the town was originally a fortified Anglo-Saxon ford which later grew to be an important regional crossroads and wealthy wool town. Located mid way between Oxford and Cheltenham (25 mins each away) it is a little haven of history and beauty that many come to fall in love with when they visit.
The 16th century Tolsey building, once the meeting place for medieval merchants, now houses The Tolsey Museum, a delightful local museum illustrating the town's social and industrial past. The church is stunning, a real gem architecturally with many interesting memorials charting some of Burford's great families. There is also the signature, on the baptisimal font, of Antony Sedley, one of the Levellers besieged in the church in 1649 - three of the ringleaders were executed by Oliver Cromwell's men in the churchyard. History awaits!
With little changing over the centuries, Burford is now very popular with visitors, both for its beauty and history but also for its shopping and antiques, and for the wide variety of places to eat, with restaurants, pubs and teashops. It is an ideal base for visiting The Cotswolds area as it is within easy driving distance of popular attractions such as Blenheim Palace, Sudley Castle, Warwick Castle and several National Trust Houses and Gardens. Bourton on the Water, Bibury, Cirencester and Stow on the Wold are all with 25 minutes from the property.
Please note an initial supply of logs & kindling is provided for the property between October until end of March; additional log supplies can be purchased locally.
Please note: this cottage requires a Good housekeeping Bond of £250.00.
2 small or 1 medium sized dog welcome - charged at £25.00 per pet.
The smart tv in the master bedroom is not connected to an aerial / dish, but can be used to link to a guests' Netflix / Amazon Prime account or to BBCi player etc.
