  • "The following was noted in the guest book on departure."

Missing, ambiguous, inaccurate, property descriptions. "off road" parking is not dedicated to property is in pub car park. EV charging is not dedicated to property it is a hotel owned facility. Rear courtyard has no sun lounger or bbq and is in near permanent shade (ps we saw a rat) Front garden is not secure for dog, no outdoor seating, needs drain cover. Odour in front room may be from floor mat we needed to spray No mention in description of adjoining and roof space hotel rooms above (noise issue). Fridge is only a larder fridge - freezer compartment would be nice to have. Impossible to clean properly before departure no mop no bucket no floor cloth useless broom useless vacuum cleaner. The bedroom is excellent comfortable and well furnished, bathroom also brilliant. WIFI and TV worked well. We did not mention that the downstairs windows are very insecure one hinge at least was completely detached also the back door sticks badly Breaker on the fridge circuit tripped late in stay and could not be reset - hotel were informed. On a more positive note we loved the area and the places we visited with dog in tow. Hotel staff were very helpful and we liked our evening meals. Main reason for this report is this is our second booking with Sykes, the first property was exactly as described down to the finest detail. This second clearly was not should we learn from this we should not trust Sykes again?

I am the first to welcome constructive criticism but not if littered with inaccuracies and also from guests who left our lovely cottage with a lounge rug completely sodden in dog urine . Having lifted the rug personally I can testify that the stains were freshly left and not as a result of previous stayers (which I’m sure they will claim!) The damaged rug had to be destroyed and was disposed and replaced at cost to me. Thankfully following mr Holt and his dog’s departure I was staying in the cottage personally so no paying guests were inconvenienced. We have let Garden cottage for two years and have always received very positive feedback and now have many happy returning visitors . We have never experienced this kind of damage from four legged friends (or their owners ) all respecting the warm welcoming nature of the cottage as well as the comfort it offers , I can only presume these particular guests confused the garden with the lounge and decided not to bother to walk their dog in the beautiful National Trust commons surrounding the cottage . As a dog lover I know how difficult it can be sometimes to find dog friendly properties so I am disappointed that people like this give bad reputations for us all looking to find lovely accommodation which are treated with respect. My understanding having spoken with Sykes HQ, is that they will not be welcomed at another Sykes Cottage again. Property Owner

  • "Overall stay was good."

Although, radiator heating did not work and despite the staffs efforts and lack of owners support to the matter remained so for entire visit. Despite temperature reading 19 and apparently set to work below 23. Thanks to the staff though, providing heaters, extension lead and many more logs to enable us to be comfortable in the spaces. Thanks to all, especially Danny, Laurence, John and Shiela

  • "What a gorgeous cottage and really quite spacious."

Lovely decor and very homely. Some noise from the attached hotel rooms but to be expected from an old cottage. The place was well equipped and an ideal base for exploring the Cotswolds and beyond. The bed was extremely comfortable. We booked a table at the Amberley Inn (next door)on the first night, for our anniversary and it was fabulous. Excellent food and service. What a wonderful location and enjoyed watching the cows roam the village. Highly recommend this lovely place.

The cottage itself was bigger than we were expecting and the kitchen was well equiped. Well situated for days out and lots of local walks to do with the dog, he was so tired it took him two days to recover :-). Would definately recomend.

  • "We booked a three night stay, wedding at Woodchester Priory, reception at Nailsworth, only minutes away from both location so perfect."

The cottage is very pretty, nestled at the back of the inn made it private and quite. The cottage is quirky, roomy and very comfortable. Enjoyed the birdsong in the morning, sitting out in the courtyard off the kitchen for breakfast, suncatch area. In the evening it was perfect place to unwined. Loved seeing the cows pop there heads over the garden wall. We did not get a chance to enjoy the inns facilities but the garden was beautiful with wonderful views. Would have liked cereal bowls, used pasta bowls which worked fine.

  • "A lovely cottage, behind the Amberley Inn Hotel."

Had food at the inn and it was exceptional. Water pressure in shower was great. Plenty of hot wster. Wifi was good. Appreciated the hand rails on stairs and bathroom due to mobility issues. There was no noise disturbance even though the hotel advised a large wedding party was staying. We wouldn't have noticed. We would stay again.

Thank you so much for your review. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming again in the future. Best wishes Jane Property Owner

  • "A very cold and unfortunately smelly stay at the Garden cottage."

On arriving at the pretty Garden Cottage, there were problems with the drainage which meant that on using the bathroom it meant that the entire cottage filled with the smell of drains. Then on trying to leave the cottage the front door wouldn’t lock. Thankfully a man from the pub fixed the door for us by moving the lock. We were told not to use the heating as it was set by the owners and if we did change it, they would just revert the changes which meant there was no heating in the cottage for the afternoons which meant it was very cold. We were told to use the fire instead but this did not warm the entire cottage so our baby was colder sleeping upstairs. Throughout our stay we also had issues with with the dishwasher that didn’t work as it left marks on anything put in it. The man from the pub put salt in but it still left things dirty. We then had to use the kitchen sink but it blocked when you used it causing the kitchen to smell. Again a man from the pub helped out but this didn’t solve the problem and the sinks blocked several times and according to the man that fixed it there was a significant blockage in the pipes. We did note the problems with the pub but they couldn’t contact the owners while we were there. We did also contact Sykes and we were offered a free night stay in the pub but we live so far away that this isn’t an option with a baby for one night. No other help or compensation was offered by the owners. A real shame as the cottage is pretty and in a lovely location but we definitely would not stay again as it was stressful having to sort out the problems with the cottage and be very cold during the Winter period.

Thank you for this review and we’re at all unhappy. I am very disappointed that you chose not to call the Sykes office or me on your arrival or throughout your stay. The Sykes office are there for just such emergencies and my personal telephone number is in the cottage for any such matters and you could have called me at any time directly during your stay. . I would happily have amended the heating AND called a Plumer to arrive immediately to fix any problem with a blocked sink which incidentally is joined to the dishwasher. Which is exactly what I did when I stayed the following day after your departure once I noticed it. I have also replaced the dishwasher with a new one. You preferred however to report your issues AFTER you left the property having stayed a week. May I advise that in future you allow owners and Sykes to rectify a problem before seeking compensation and leaving a rather unfair review in an otherwise glowing feedback. We take great pride in our lovely cottage having lived there happily myself for 11 years so I really want others to enjoy it too as well as its beautiful location. Kind regards Jane Property Owner

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Garden Cottage."

Nice location on the edge of Minchinhampton common. The cottage itself was supprisingly larger than we thought. Very comfortable bed with large en-suite bathroom with lovely big soft towels provided. The central heating was excellent, with the added bonus of a woodburning stove. The Amberley Inn (20yds away) was ideal for meals and served 3 real ales with an excellent range of other drinks. The only thing that I would say is that the kitchen, in the cottage, would benefit from a microwave oven. Needless to say we loved the cottage and had a relaxing stay along with our Golden Retriever.

Thank you so much for your review and we are really delighted you enjoyed you all enjoyed staying. I am always happy for constructive feedback and I thank you for yours- microwave now in situ! All very best wishes Jane Property Owner

Beautiful area and convenient location. Warm and more space, especially downstairs, than anticipated. Could sometimes hear other guests from the hotel but did not unduly disturb us. Appreciated efficient contact with the owner. Comfy bed and good facilities that will be even better when there's more kitchen equipment.

Hello Thank you for your review and feedback. Since your stay I have added a microwave as suggested and various bits of extra kitchen equipment to make stays easier. Really appreciate your stay and kind words Best wishes Jane Property Owner

Decoration needs refreshing too. Shower & towels were fantastic & plenty of them. Were not told it ajoined the hotel & although it didn't disturb us too much would've liked to have been told. All staff were lovely, friendly & very helpful

Hello, thank you for your valuable feedback. We have taken note of your comments regarding kitchen equipment and will be adding accordingly. The entire cottage was decorated in April . The location is in an area of outstanding natural beauty, yes the eighteenth century inn is next door but as you say it didn’t disturb and like you most visitors enjoy the convenience of using its facilities.
