"Second stay here and it remains splendid."
Well cared for, well equipped and everything works. Definitely somewhere where you can sleep with the window open since the only noise is from the river, which shouldn't be a surprise. Thank you!

"I've hardly been able to do this cottage justice this time as I've been arriving after dark and going out again in the morning."
.. in the dark, but the location is clearly splendid and the cottage is of a high standard - it's all clean, modern and well-maintained. The bed made it deliberately difficult to get up each morning, but it is a very comfortable bed. It's not the easiest place to find (particularly in the dark), but the peace and quiet makes it very worthwhile.

"Great clean warm cottage"

"This beautiful cottage was a delight to stay in."
Lovely and warm in November. Well equipped and situated in a lovely spot with the windows looking out on to a hillside lit up with autumn colour. Lots to do in and around the area. We look forward to a return visit.

"Perfect..."
Everything we could wish for provided. Stunning walks, views, and meals at the Ferry Inn great. Had many Sykes cottage holidays, this cottage top of the list for comfort, cleanliness, and facilities. Maisie our cockapoo loved the doggy treats and toys to play with too. All very enjoyable.
Thankyou so much, so glad you enjoyed your stay! Property Owner

"Very nice stay, good size rooms, clean and comfortable, good supply of kitchen equipment if you want to make a meal."
North Ferries Inn a short walk away, advisable to book if you have dogs - take a torch for the walk back! Cottage tricky to find but owner sent helpful info for how to get there.
-
"Lovely little cottage in an ideal location, well worth the drive down little lanes to get there."
Gorgeous views across the river and two lovely pubs nearby. The gardens were great for our little one to explore. Would stay again.
-
"Amazing, peaceful surroundings."
10 mins to river, then hand ferry over to the pub...perfect. (Saracen's Head, great food.) Cottage was well equipped.and upkeep good... Stairs REALLY creaky tho!!
-
"A fantastic base for everything we wanted to do, children loved the garden!"
Lovely nearby pubs and walks straight from the door. Thank you for the lovely welcome pack, it was much appreciated. All round, we had a great stay and the weather was on our side!
-
"Stairs really creaky."
making you conscious of the disturbing the neighbour
-
"Comfortable, well equipped cottage."
Great location. Good dog walks from front door. Two dog friendly pubs, one along lower road, the other across on the ferry. Truffles cafe in Ross is worth a visit for lunch.
-
"Comfortable cottage in a lovely location."
Lots to see and do in the area. Very dog friendly. Cottage had everything we needed for our stay and would recommend to friends.

-
"Comfy and well-equipped cottage in a beautiful and peaceful area, Very dog friendly with bowls, toys and towels - even a jar of dog treats!"
Lovely to listen to the bird song. Despite the rain, we managed some lovely walks. Would certainly consider returning!
-
"Very peaceful property amid a beautiful setting, ideal for walks and an excellent base for exploring the surrounding places of interest."
-
"Perfect little cottage for a week away with everything we needed."
Would definitely like to come back.
-
"Spectacular remote location but excellent local pubs and hotels."
- great walks around the River Wye. Hosts are welcoming and helpful and although it’s a small comfy-cottage facilities are modern and practical.
-
"Beautiful cottage in an amazing location."
Thank you
-
"The cottage was beautifully clean."
The photos on the website do not do it justice, as they make the furniture look old fashioned, when it actually isn't. The kitchen and TV are brand new. The location is lovely, especially with all the autumn colours. The owner was very helpful before our visit and there is a lovely neighbour who offered to give us any information we needed during our stay. The Old Ferrie Inn is within walking distance, the food is delicious & they are very dog friendly. We really enjoyed the riverside, woodland walks & had a very relaxing holiday.

"Nice clean well equipped cottage, comfy bed."
The courtyard at the back needs a serious makeover. very untidy with very old rusty garden furniture. TV could possibly do with an update. Saying that it is a beautiful location and we would stay again.
Thanks for your feedback, the garden furniture is actually new but with a verdigris finish to make it look old, so I can see how that might be confusing. We are looking at replacing this and will also look at the crockery which we have had for some time now in the cottage. Property Owner

"Fantastic location, lovely woodland and riverside walks straight from the front door."
The cottage itself is the best equiped that we have ever stayed in, great kitchen/diner, has everything you need to cook away from home (apart from a lack of kitchen sissors). Nice to have a fridge freezer and not just a fridge with a small ice box. Great bathroom with powerful shower. Comfy beds, plenty of storage. Only downside was the patio area, which could do with some landscaping and the patio table and chairs need replacing as they were very rusty. Although we found it a great place to stay, so much so we have already booked to come back next year, I would not recommend it for the less mobile or a nervous driver - the lane down to the cottage is very steep, narrow and had quite a few bends, saying that we rather enjoyed negotiating it.
Thanks for your feedback there is very little we can do to the courtyard as we are restricted by it’s limited size. We like it to have some perennial plants and pots to give a little interest. It is however worth making the most of the shared gardens in the front, part of the original gardens from the original Wye Rapids Hotel. Property Owner

"Lovely little cottage, quiet and comfortable."
A very narrow lane *does* lead to it and sat nav *does* get confused, but the owner's directions are very helpful and we were well used to it before we left. A welcome basket would have been a nice touch so we could have a cuppa or something before having to go shopping. There's a doggy basket filled with toys, blankets, towels and even treats, so why not for the humans.
Thanks for your feedback, we provide tea, coffee and biscuits for when you arrive. Property Owner
-
"We had a fantastic 4 day break."
Great instructions to find the cottage, i don’t think we would have by using satnav alone. The cottage was very peaceful, listening to the birdsong during the evening was bliss. The cottage itself was very well equipped, very comfortable and was like a home from home, probably the best cottage we have stayed in with the dogs
Thanks for your feedback, we provide tea, coffee and biscuits for when you arrive. Property Owner

"The property was clean warm & had everything we needed, going as far as the good neighbours."
-
"Clean and comfortable, well equipped cottage."
The views were great, especially when covered in snow!
-
"Lovely cottage in a very quiet location overlooking the River Wye with beautiful views."
-
"The cottage is well equipped and comfortable."
In a beautiful area.
-
"Lovely cottage, very clean and well equipped, especially the kitchen and bathroom."
It's peaceful and the shared grounds are brilliant. We did a great circular walk from the cottage to the river which was manageable for two small children. It was great for us to be able use the cot and stairgate to save room in the car, although it would be useful to have two stairgates so we could prevent toddler both going up and going down the stairs. If you have young children you need to be careful in the car park because of a steep drop but otherwise we found it worked great for children. Would stay again.
-
"Excellent cottage ,beautifully situated in a quite and relaxing position in the valley."
Cottage was warm and comfortable and adequately stocked with everything needed for a nice stay.
-
"Had the most wonderful stay at Wye Valley Cottage."
It had everything we needed for our little one as they can provide cot, hight chair and stair gate on request. It's the perfect location to go to and be able to just open the door and explore. It was nice and clean and looked like a brand new kitchen as the pictures on here looked different and dated. Will be back again!
-
"The property was fabulous ."
The only drawback for myself was the single track lane .
-
"Family of 4."
Really enjoyed our stay. The “house book” was really useful. Neighbours really nice. Lots of opportunity for walking in the forest, can walk to Monmouth, round to the pubs on both sides of the river or to the cafe in the forest, or Whitchurch. Relatively easy to get to by car. Good local pubs with beautiful scenery, nice food and staff with great view of forest on other side of valley. Monmouth easily accessible for main shopping. Small shops (and excellent cafe) in Whitchurch. Great fun hiring paddleboards. Nice and quiet! No noise. It is on the side of a hill with a nice view of the valley.
-
"We had a lovely holiday and we found the cottage very comfortable and cosy."
It had all essential ammenities. Minor suggestions for improvement would be to provide a hairdryer, a mat for the shower, and also a container in the shower for shower gel and shampoo.
-
"The cottage is in a beautiful location and is well equipped and clean."
However, the back garden area was overgrown with brambles, nettles, rotting leaves from previous years and weeds growing through the patio area which has not even been swept in a long time. We had expected this space to be an ideal spot for breakfast or a glass of wine in the evening, this was an usable space
-
"Enjoyed our first visit to Wye Valley."
Cottage easy to find with directions. Parking was not a problem. Very clean with everything we needed for our stay. Many walks directly from cottage. Very nice pubs within walking distance or across ferry. Only thing we would add is the little courtyard was a bit overgrown and with a bit of tidying up wouldn’t be lovely for breakfast. Overall we enjoyed our holiday
-
"Great cottage in a beautiful valley."
Wonderful views from the front door and very well sited for pubs, walks and general activities.
-
"Not suitable area for anyone with walking difficulties."
-
"Comfortable cottage and great location."
-
"We had a lovely few days here in Symonds Yat, we had brought wash up liquid, tea towels etc but it was lovely to have the things already there to use."
We cooked while there and although the hob took a bit of time heating up we managed fine and there was a good assortment of equipment to make cooking easy. The cottage was perfectly placed for many walks, and not too far from other places.
-
"Lovely well equipped cottage in a stunningly beautiful area."
The views were breathtaking with the autumnal landscape scenes across the river and mountains opposite the cottage. We look forward to a revisit.
-
"The cottage was lovely and clean."
And decorative. Kitchen a little old but nothing wrong with that as fully equipped. Great location. Great neighbors. Road to cottage not great but advice is take your time as lots of traffic backwards and forwards. Will definitely be booking again next year. Price for rent was very reasonable. Very happy. Thank you
-
"A lovely setting but not ideal for over 80s - steep hillside, lots of steps and very steep, creaking, stairs in the cottage."
The road in is rough, narrow with limited passing places/ peoples driveways to allow passing. The old electric oven has lost all its 'heat markers' and should be replaced
-
"We had a brilliant stay, the cottage was modern and cosy with everything we needed in the kitchen to self-cater."
Photos on here don’t do the property justice, much more modern and redecorated since they were taken. There is dish washer (bonus!) bring some tablets with you as only one provided. Spotlessly clean and beautiful location right on tut river. The spaniel had a whale of a time (as did his owners!)
-
"Excellent holiday, booked again."
-
"Excellent location if you like to be fairly remote."
Closed road and very narrow alternative meant we walked and cycled everywhere, which suited us just fine. Having breakfast outside each morning, looking across the valley was the highlight. So much to do, all from doorstep; cycling, walking, canoeing, swimming. Good local pubs. Cottage had all we needed, plenty of kitchen items, plenty of towels, enough space for family of four. Big communal garden for children to play in was a bonus.
-
"Superb location to explore Symonds Yat."
Well equipped cottage with traditional decor. Suffers at present from road closure which makes access difficult through very narrow lanes. Nearby river crossing also inaccessible which is a shame as the saracens head is a lovely pub to visit. Wye River is stunning and water activities are a great way to spend the day.
-
"The only positive feedback we can give is that the beds were comfortable and the area was peaceful."
Bring your own tea coffee sugar milk , tea towels, dishwasher tablets. Ladies the lighting is too dim , bring your own hairdryer.
-
"The cottage was clean and functional."
However, there was no wifi, hairdryer and the road to the cottage was terrible. So narrow. On two of the four days the ferry didn't run because of the high tide. The latter was no fault of the owners of the cottage, but it tainted the holiday as we had to drive out, hence using that awful road. In fairness I don't think we will return there because of the lack of wifi and more so, 'that' road.
-
"We had a lovely time with beautiful weather; however whilst we were aware there was no wifi at the cottage, we did not realise that there was absolutely no mobile signal anywhere nearby and this did cause us some issues - had we realised this, we would have booked a cottage with wifi/."
The cottage is lovely but furniture/hob somewhat dated although this did not detract from our holiday; beautiful garden wonderful views and lovely area. Mr & Mrs Eason were at pains to ensure that we understood that the road past the Ferry Inn was tight - we have a Rav 4 and it was not a problem for us. Cottage was clean and tidy and had everything we needed for a short break - except wifi.
-
"Address is Wye Rapids Cottages not Wye view which hindered locating cottage."
Other than that superb.
-
"- lovely break & the cottage made for a very pleasant stay indeed."
Could'nt get WIFI - not sure if No 2 had that facility - and also belive a DVD player as part of the TV was mentioned- but either we were being silly/ short sighted as we could'nt see one !...Neither of these observations show stoppers, but by way of feedback...thanks Nigel & Sarah Brigden

"We had a lovely stay and made friends with the local wild life."
.We were enthralled at seeing the Peregrine Falcons over the Valley. We actually got snowed in toward the end of our week and had to contact the owner who enabled us to stay on for the following week as well. Even though we had to ration our food a little bit we found it a great experience. We had all the creature comforts and were very warm and cosy in the cottage , waking up to a beautiful dawn chorus each morning and welcoming the migrating geese as they were arriving. We even made a snowman. Excellent break.
-
"I asked a number of questions about the property and all the replies I got just pointed me back to the website listing (which didn't answer my questions - that's why I contacted Sykes directly)."
I decided to book anyway as the cottage was very good value that week (9th-16th Dec). First of all we had great trouble finding the place as the directions were not at all clear- and when you do eventually arrive you find the cottage is very confusingly called Quat' Saisons not Wye Valley Cottage so you think you have the wrong place. The location is beautiful with lovely views and ideal for us as dog owners with walks straight from the door. Disappointed with the cottage itself which is distinctly average. Jerry-built with poor quality fixtures and fittings, the focus has clearly been on economy so while it is functional there is nothing that made me think that the place was particularly loved and cared for. The place is tiny - OK for us as a couple but would be a real squash for a family. Heating is by inefficient storage heaters with free standing fires which we had to use most of the time as it was a really cold week. Draught whipping in under the front door which opens straight onto the lounge. Kitchen rather poorly equipped. Shower rather weak. As I say, it was all functional and I only paid £255 for a week so I pretty much got what I expected. The following week (Christmas week) was nearly £700 and had I paid that much I would not have been at all happy. We enjoyed our week because of the location and would stay in the village again but not at Wye Valley Cottage. It's a shame as with a bit of love and care it could be a beautiful little place.

"A very comfortable cottage with some new furniture and carpets."
Very homely and the owners and the cleaner were very friendly and helpful. We stayed for 2 weeks and the bedding and towels were changed for us. There was a small issue with the cottage being very cold when we arrived because the storage heaters were not on as we expected them to be and we didn't know how they worked. But the handy man soon came out and sorted that out. There was some other heating in the cottage anyway. All in all, very nice and a lovely situation and we will definitely want to stay again.
