  • "Beautiful cottage, especially having the laundry/boot room to stop bringing dirt into the house."

Everything great, thank you for the welcome pack. Only thing we found was that the whole cottage could do with a deep clean. Quite a few cobwebs around in unused areas, eg behind the sofa and along its wall in the conservatory, around socket areas. Heating settings a bit awry as could have been warmer in the mornings and unable to reset (though understand why). Otherwise, great cottage, very comfortable and roomy and would definitely return.

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Swan View. We have passed your comments on to the housekeeper. Best wishes, Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "A lovely quaint cottage situated in a quiet location but with a blind corner when pulling out of the driveway."

Overall we had a pleasant stay as we used this house as a base so we could visit the airshow. A little bemused when the owner turned up on the Monday the 22nd of July expecting the house to be empty as she had planned to stay there!!! An oversight on your part Sykes?? Not the best maintained property as the bathroom window handle was sheared off leaving a jagged edge. The master bedroom had a double socket hanging off the wall with exposed live wires!! We did contact the mobile number on the booking form to report these hazards. The freezer had to be defrosted as the drawers were frozen in place and couldn’t be moved and the top of the fridge hadn’t ever seen a duster as it was covered with dust. Generally the inside of the house could do with a freshen up as it is looking tired but on a positive note it was comfy and a nice place to stay.

Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback and for highlighting some issues during your stay at Swan View. We have contacted the Property Manager who has replied that when alerted the double socket was taped up until the electrician is able to attend this week..A photo has been sent in showing this has been done, and we are informed that the socket doesn't need to be used as there is now a 4 way socket in place which can be used instead. It has also been confirmed that the handle on the window was unfortunately broken by some previous guests and due to it now being peak season it is not possible to fix during a same day changeover. We apologise if these issues impacted your stay and hope that we can welcome you again in the future. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "Really nice cottage in a lovely quiet village."

The property is well equipped and very practical with off road parking and a secure rear garden, particularly useful if you have pets. There's plenty of room downstairs with decent size lounge kitchen and dining room plus a nice little conservatory opening onto the garden. Main bedroom is good, didn't use second bedroom. My only one criticism was the placement of the wall mounted cupboard in the utility room which both myself and my wife caught our shoulders on. It was almost empty so I'm not sure what purpose it served. Other than that excellent accommodation.

Thank you for your feedback, we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Swan View and the quiet village, so nice to be able to come away and relax. We appreciated you comments on the wall mounted cupboard and shall pass this over to the owners. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "On the whole it was a great place to stay, the cottage was well equipped and comfortable."

We enjoyed the nearby walks and the garden and could relax knowing it was secure for the dog. Some of the kitchenware could do with a refresh (kettle/pans) Unfortunately our peaceful getaway was interrupted by the cleaner coming a day early and letting herself into the property. That put a dampener on our final evening.

Thank you for your feedback, we are pleased you enjoyed the cottage and that you could relax knowing the dogs were secure in the garden. We shall have a look at the kitchenware, and we are sorry to hear that you had been interrupted by the cleaner we shall pass this on. Best Wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

The cottage is situated in a beautiful, quiet village. Swan view is a wonderful cottage, with some lovely original features. The garden was perfect for dogs as it was fully enclosed. The property is close to some lovely local pubs. The Prince of Burford which is about 6 miles from the property had stunning food and a lovely atmosphere. Lots of footpaths and walks in the area although rather muddy when we were there, but, not specified in cottage details, there is a hosepipe behind the cottage that is excellent for hosing off muddy dogs before you let them in! Kitchen diner is lovely but sofas and chairs can be a bit low if you have arthritis. However over all a lovely cosy base when we were visiting friends and family.

  • "We liked the village location of Swan View cottage and its proximity to Lechade on Thames with its pubs, cafes and shops."

A pint of milk and a bottle of wine were left for us on arrival which was appreciated. The overall standard of accommodation at the cottage is good. The lounge, kitchen and dining areas are all a decent size and tastefully decorated. The cottage also benefits from a pleasant and a neat garden with seating. There’s also a conservatory which is a lovely place to relax. The cottage is reasonably well equipped, but there was no toast rack, or shaver socket in the bathroom. Only one hand towel was provided, luckily we brought a couple of our own. The freezer needed defrosting and the kettle needed descaling. On the negative side the bathroom was in dire need of a refresh, we were told that there are plans to do this. The shower riser rail is too low and the bathroom window is a poor fit and is draughty. Parking on the drive could be an issue for some as there is an awkward slope which makes it difficult to reverse onto; made worse by the cottage being on a bend restricting visibility. There was no information pack providing the usual useful information you would normally expect; details of local shops, GP, vet, hospital, local amenities, pubs, public transport etc. There was no fire escape plan either which is a serious omission and which needs to be remedied. Overall we felt the cottage was quite good but could be a lot better if the above issues were addressed.

The property

Resting in a peaceful lane, in the picture-postcard village of Southrop, next to the village green, is this lovely semi-detached Cotswold stone cottage, Swan View.

With a pretty south-west facing garden, the property is the perfect getaway for a small family or group of friends alike who are seeking a relaxing break in this stunning part of the Cotswolds.

Park-up on the gravel driveway and be welcomed into the entrance hall where you can kick off your shoes and enter into the beautifully-presented sitting room that has wooden flooring and an eye-catching exposed brick fireplace containing a wood and coal burning stove, perfect for getting crackling on a cold winter evening and snuggling up on the sofas to watch a movie on the Smart TV.

A smart and light country-style kitchen provides a space where you can prepare picnics for your walks into the Cotswolds or rustle up a hot meal for your guests with the electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge and freezer, and you’ll also find a dishwasher to make cleaning up a breeze!

Tuck into your meals in the lovely dining room at the large wooden dining table, before catching the sunset sat on the Rattan sofa and two chairs in the beautiful conservatory, where French doors lead out to the large, mature rear garden, with planted borders, fruit trees and a lawn area, where you can dine in warmer months underneath the umbrella at the outdoor seating area.

Be sure to make use of the charcoal barbecue in summer months!

Back inside, a utility/cloakroom and a snug room complete the ground floor.

When night falls, tuck the kids into bed in the single room which has an additional 75cm wide pull-out single bed available on request, and head into the bight and spacious king-size room to get some rest for the night.

In the morning, make your way into the shower room for an invigorating rinse before getting ready to head out for the day.

Swan View is surrounded by the stunning Cotswolds countryside, and you will find The River Leach runs past the village where there is an abundance of walks from the doorstep of the cottage, including the Cotswolds Walk from Southrop to Eastleach which takes you along the River Leach, across the beautiful Cotswold countryside and on to the pretty village of Eastleach.

Eastleach is a twin village consisting of Eastleach Martin and remains unspoilt by modern times, with more than 60 listed buildings.

The two villages are connected by a traditional stone clapper bridge, a series of piers supporting a row of flagstones.

The route then returns south, back to Southrop through open countryside.

Burford, the “gateway to the Cotswolds” is close by, which is a town with some fantastic shops, restaurants and tourist attractions including Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens, a landscaped parkland filled with nature and also Tolsey Museum, which has local history, culture, and industry collections.

The market town of Cirencester is well worth a visit, and you will find an array of shops along the Market Place and can brush up on some history at Corinium Museum which shows impressive Roman artifacts that have been well-preserved.

Gather together with your loved ones to enjoy the scenic countryside of the Cotswolds and stay at Swan View.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £150.

About the location

SOUTHROP

Bibury 6 miles.

Southrop is a picturesque village and civil parish in the Cotswolds, Gloucestershire. It is situated on the River Leach which is a tributary of the Thames.

It has all the ingredients of a quintessential English village including a 12th century Church adjacent to the Manor House and a pub on the green.
