  • "A very well-appointed and well-equipped cottage with amazing views from the windows at the rear."

We found the property to be very comfortable, clean and well maintained and it had everything we needed for an enjoyable holiday in this beautiful part of England. In fact, I would say that Chalk Cottage is among the top 2 or 3 self-catering properties we have ever stayed in. There are two dining pubs within walking distance. Both are very friendly and welcoming, our favourite being the Wyche Inn and the cottage is only a short drive from both Great Malvern and Ledbury, both well worth a visit. For the more energetic, there are plenty of scenic walks in the local area, some more challenging than others.

  • "We had a lovely stay ,our only niggle so not a complaint as such ,the bathrooms especially the en suit needs a fair bit of maintenance and a deep clean ."

Wardrobes in the bedrooms would have been useful so you had somewhere to hang your clothes, the hoover provided is useless and needs replacing. Other than that that we really enjoyed our stay and spent out time walking in the beautiful surrounding countryside.

We are so glad you had a lovely stay and enjoyed the walks and countryside. It is truly a beautiful part of the world. We're sorry that you had some niggles - since your stay the small en-suite has had a new more powerful extractor fan and vent pipes fitted - it is only a small en-suite, and we do encourage guests to leave the window open a small amount in order to help with ventilation. Otherwise it will get very wet and does not have the chance to dry out between uses. Maintenance is scheduled as soon as the cottage is empty for long enough. We actively chose not to put wardrobes in the bedrooms as they are cottage-sized. Instead we wanted to put the biggest-sized beds in for guests, and also allow as much space as possible in the bedrooms - so instead we opted for large chests of drawers and bedroom doors with lots of hangers. The larger bedroom has a small hanging wardrobe for use. Brand new Dyson now! We are glad the small niggles did not ruin your stay with us, and that you still managed to enjoy the beautiful countryside and walks we are so lucky to have . Property Owner

The cottage had everything we needed to enjoy a relaxing break and was a real home from home. We particularly enjoyed the log fire on the cold evenings and the view over the countryside from the kitchen window was fantastic when having breakfast. We also loved that the cottage had been decorated for Christmas; it made our December break very festive!

Being smack in the middle of the Malvern Hills, it was perfectly situated for walking them from the door, and for visiting the general area. We had a small problem with the heating, which the owners responded to, and fixed, in less than two hours, very efficient. Two local pubs serving food within a few minutes walk, and a Waitrose in nearby Malvern helped make this a relaxing holiday.

Thank you for your kind comments on the cleanliness of the property - I will pass them on to Housekeeping. Glad you liked the local pubs - We are very fortunate to have pubs serving food close by, both of which welcome dogs. Waitrose is always a bonus as well ! ! A couple of suggestions - provide a washing up bowl, a larger washing up cloth and replace the rotting upright by the shower in the main bathroom.

So glad you enjoyed your stay in the property - the views are the reason we love living in this part of the world! The wooden upright in the main bathroom that you mention in your review was indeed replaced not long after your stay with us - so in October 22 - would you believe it - we had to wait that long to be able to get in to the cottage and book it out for annual maintenance - it's a real challenge as the cottage is so popular it is usually fully booked - and as per our contract with Sykes - we are not allowed to book the cottage for maintenance during peak season - which is March/April to September. Central heating system or pipes knocked periodically even during the night. Otherwise the cottage was lovely with everything needed thoughtfully provided. All very clean and tidy. Great location for walking if the weather was better but the road outside was very busy at rush hour.

So happy you found the cottage clean and tidy - we work hard to make sure everything is there for our guests. The location is fabulous indeed - and so lovely to be able to walk from the cottage, and cosy up in front of the log fire on an evening. The back door is a little difficult to open - but it's a lovely stable door that you can have open in the summer and make the most of the views towards the welsh mountains. All window were replaced with triple glazed units when we renovated the property 4 years ago - apart from the 2 very beautiful curved beau windows at the front - there can be some road noise in the dining room and one of the bedrooms - but rush hour is village traffic, or the school run - so not too troublesome we feel. The cottage is generally considered peaceful and calm. The pipes were knocking during your stay - we later had a burst water mains on the road - which was fixed within a few days by the water company - and the cottage neighbours suspect that possibly this caused the water pressure to drop to all the local houses. Overall pleased with the cottage and liked its location being able to walk out onto the Malvern Hills and on footpaths to the village without needing the car.Enjoyed visiting Worcester and various local towns . There were a few small negatives :lack of clothes hanging in bedrooms as no wardrobes,Tv was not 'smart ' and no DVD player which would have helped pass the long winter evenings ,front windows were singled glazed which wouldnt normally be a problem but it was particularly cold and stormy for part of the week .Overall we were happy enough we would return .

** STOP PRESS ** as of 21st January 2022 - the cottage now has a Smart TV! We are so glad you liked the location of the cottage - we are so lucky to have such wonderful walks from the hills straight from the cottage! The weather was stormy indeed, and you get some wonderfully dramatic skies up here on the hills too.... we love it!! Our cosy cottage is exactly that, and so we chose not to have wardrobes in the bedrooms, but provide plenty of chests of drawers hanging space for our guests to use - we want to maximise the space in the rooms for you. The front windows of the cottage are the most beautiful and attractive little beau windows - and we are resisting changing them as they add so much character to our old cottage! The rest of the cottage has triple glazed units, so it is only the two windows that are single glazed - one of which is in the dining room - which has thick floor to ceiling curtains and a toasty warm radiator to keep it warm - its french doors you can also shut and keep the rest of the house cosy and warm. There's also the lovely log burner and very efficient radiators in the cottage - most guests will find the cottage very toasty and warm indeed! Property Owner

  • "The cottage was lovely and v clean."

It was in a great location and within walking distance of a shop and 2 pubs ( even if that meant walking up and down hills) and the views were super. It had pretty much everything we needed If we were being really picky the hanging space for clothes wasn't really ok. Some bedrooms had hooks & hangers on the back of the doors which was a start but not the single room and it would have really helped if it did.

So glad to hear you found the cottage lovely and clean! I will pass on the feedback to our housekeeping team. We are so lucky to have 2 pubs within easy walking distance of the cottage, and the village shop down in the village. Some of our guests take the bus - 2 bus stops within walking distance of the cottage too when they don't feel like walking. As the cottage is exactly that, the 3 bedrooms are not massive [despite one being a double, and one being a king] - hanging space is at a premium and so we took the decision to go for hangers on the backs of doors where possible, and an additional small hanging rail in the double room rather than cramming large wardrobes in. We possibly do need to look at adding additional hanging space in the single room, and I will pass your comments on. Despite the shortage of hanging space we're glad that it didn't spoil your stay with us, and that you enjoyed the cottage and the hills! Property Owner

The only small issue was that it advertised a king size bed and we rang up to check and this was not a king sized bed. Our daughter bed hops and needed this, but struggled some nights with room. We were plagued with a horrible virus that hit our family 1 by 1 through the week, but its was a very cosy place to stay. Thank you.

The owner can confirm there is one double and one king size bed at the property. Apologies if the listing caused confusion for your stay. Property Owner

It was a real home from home experience. Great location for our walking holiday and near to any amenities which we needed plus a short 5 minute walk to a really good local pub. Hannah went out of her way to ensure that we could gain entry to the cottage 2 hours earlier than the specified time so that we could dump our bags and make the most of the daylight hours available to us in the Malverns. We would highly recommend Chalk Cottage.

  • "The only problem we experienced was finding the cottage at first."

The directions to find the cottage need to be clearer. We couldn’t find anything to tell us that we were in upper Colwall, no landmarks to indicate the area to look in. There is an old school/ church and it is up the hill from the British camp sign. I’m sure the owner could find more to help. However the owner was very helpful when ever we contacted her. The cottage was very comfortable and the views were stunning.
