  • "The location is ideal for the stunning scenery & peace & quiet."

The kitchen had an abundance of cooking utensils. The beds were really comfortable, had great nights sleep. The conservatory furniture has seen better days & I thought the mis matched furniture looked dated & worse for wear. The gowns provided weren't the best, a bit smelly & well worn. I suggest you take your own. The bedding & towels were in excellent condition. It gets a bit cramped in the lounge area when all 4 guests in there, found the layout of furniture didn't help. Saw the lovely Percy, the visiting peacock, so lovely to experience. Walked to a lovely little pub, lovely walk down lane, so pretty. With some slight changes with the decor, furniture, layout etc this could be a 4 **** letting

Once he left us to it we found various things that needed a good clean in the kitchen such as the fridge , kettle and washing machine. The sofa in the conservatory bit were covered in stains and looked like they needed to be changed. Once we went upstairs the shower had black stains around the head and switch and then we found stains and hairs on the bedsheets which was very off putting. It’s 1/2 an hour from a main town but we liked that it was so quiet and peaceful. The hot tub looks out at amazing views of the Herefordshire countryside. All facilities you would need on your holiday are there. The owner was welcoming and checked once we were ok other than that left us to it. Great garden with a big picnic table so we invited a couple of friends over and had a barbecue. Lots to visit in the local area and just 1/2 an hour from Hereford city centre. We have booked to return next year as it suited us so well.

  • "Positive points: Very accommodating owner - allowed us to check in anytime after 12 on Christmas Day and let us leave at 10:30 on checkout day."

Lovely location - quiet and with pretty views. Comfortable beds Plenty of towels Toilet rolls, dishwasher tablets and soap powder provided Kitchen good, and very well equipped Lots of games and dvds provided Excellent car parking Dog friendly Pretty Christmas tree set up for us Lovely hot tub Negative points: Access is along single track road for one mile, with very few passing places. On arrival we were informed that the owner had had to put the cold water taps for the upstairs sinks off, as there was hammering in the pipes. The implication was that this had happened that week, and as it was Christmas the plumber’s visit would have to wait. On tracking back in the reviews, I read that people have complained about this since last August and the issue has not been fixed. It was very problematic not having cold water upstairs, especially as the hot water ran extremely hot. We ended up having to use an upstairs toilet and going downstairs to wash hands. Had to clean teeth with hot water. The flushing of the toilets was a bit hit or miss. The downstairs toilet was mostly abandoned by us as it was so unreliable. No functioning lock on the downstairs toilet. The conservatory is unusable in the winter. Despite a heater being provided, it was extremely cold and damp. Mould on the walls in places. When it rains hard, the roof leaks in various places, especially onto the tv and dvd player. You wouldn’t really want to sit and relax in it anyway, as it is rather a hotch potch of old furniture and dog things and the dryer. Not really like the photo on the web. En-suite shower dirty and desperately in need of bleach. We were shown the food for the peacock’s daily visit. I didn’t put it out as it contained raisins, and these are toxic to dogs and we had two dogs with us. The fact there is a peacock who visits the property can be construed both in a positive and negative light. For us, with two dogs, it was a negative. Overall, it needs a good dose of TLC.

Phil gave us a good introduction to the area and made several recommendations. We enjoyed sitting in the garden and meeting the Peacock. Felt very private too. The hot tub was lovely. No issues with the lid, I managed it each time on my own. The main bedroom was very comfortable, huge bed clean and fresh. Nice shower too. We ate at the property each of the three nights we were there, on the first night we had been shopping but forgot salt for cooking , a lot of rental properties I’ve stayed in have some basics for guests. It wasn’t an issue as we got some the next day. The local area is beautiful and Phil recommended a nice walk. Only negatives were two of the wine glasses were quite dirty, probably put back by previous guests and not checked.

Sofa in the living room is feeling a little tired and the armchair has seen better days. But do not let this put you off, it really is worth a stay. Hot tub is a very nice way to chill out but, the lid is very heavy needs 2 even 3 people to remove & replace. With a few improvements it would be perfect. ( Phil did say he has a new lid on order, but will it be any lighter, I don't know) Downside is the vacate time...in our opinion 9am is to early 10 or even 11 would be much better... Thanks Phil we will definitely be coming back and recommending...

It's deeply rural yet only 20 mins drive from Hereford, with beautiful views especially from the gorgeous hot tub! The accommodation is very spacious and one of the best equipped houses we've stayed in - a real home from home, with lots of extra touches. The super kingsize bed was very comfortable. We had plenty of hot water and there are 2 bathrooms as well as a downstairs cloakroom. There are walks from outside the door - be prepared for hills! Lots to do in the Wye Valley area, and some excellent local pubs. We hope to return!

  • "Generally lovely place in a beautiful location, great "base camp" stay to visit nearby things and a good place to get some very needed relaxing in."

It's a really nice touch that the owner has made up a mix of nuts and biscuits to feed the local peacock with, meaning he pops by to see if he can have lunch and allows you within a few feet of him. Only a few things to make this a complete 5 star experience; The cover for the hot tub is quite heavy, being relatively young and fit we managed it but this could pose a slight issue for older couples, though I'm not sure of a solution or work around for this. While only a minor annoyance the volume on the TV in the snug area goes up and down on its own, going from a whisper to a shout in a few seconds. Some of the building could do with a slight touch up, few holes in the walls where electrics have been modified in the past and not touched back in, but that's probably just me looking at a property from a trade perspective. Pressure on the en-suite shower is a little lower than would be expected considering the water pressure in the rest of the property is incredible. Didn't really get any instructions on how to leave the place, so washed everything up, put the bins out and stripped the bed/ put the towels by the washing machine and hoped for the best.

Few little issues, hot tub cover you have to actually lift this off onto a table. It was very heavy, if my husband was not there I would not of been able to take it off. The bed was so comfy and the hot tub was really lovely, with plenty of spare towels. I also got to meet Percy the Peacock which was lovely. The owner was very welcoming and we felt like it was a really good introduction to the property. I think there were only two small points possibly for improvement, but these are minor: - Trying to watch the TV in the lounge was a bit awkward. There was only Would suggest potentially blocking off the door into the dining room and getting a wider second sofa, or getting rid of existing sofas for a big corner one coving the dining room and french doors in the lounge, or swapping the lounge and dining room around (though unconventional) it might add more room. - As it is quite a distance from shops (and we arrived late in the evening) it would be really nice to provide a starter pack of some food - such as eggs, bread, milk, jam etc). With hindsight we should have come prepared but similar properties that we've travelled to (including during the pandemic) have done this for similar reasons. The house was more than we could have asked for, and we would be hoping to come back in the future. Thanks again.

It has absolutely everything you need. We used it as a base to venture out each day; Wilton for a walk along the river, Ross on Wye for fish and chips, Perrygrove trains (twice!), the Three Castles of Gwent where we paddled in the river Monnoe at Skenfrith, Lydney Harbour for the biggest and best 99, Cyril Hart Arboretum so my son and dog could run around and be nature adventurers. If you don't mind single track roads then I'd definitely recommend getting out. We done a single track all the way to Wales on one day! We done the 'blue' walk once but the steep road was too much for my 6 year old. Loved a bit of foraging though; sloes, plums, apples, cob nuts and blackberries! Then after all that, coming back for a soak in the hot tub and watch the stars come out and spot the bats. The robes there were a fantastic touch to put straight on after the tub. You'll need a break for some R&R after a wonderfully busy week here! We're exhausted but what adventures we had and what memories we made.

!I add this was not the owners fault and I put no blame on him at all a very obliging owner.but anyone who was faint hearted just would not have made it very steep and twisty rd.the pubs were to far to walk at night especially because of the lane being too narrow u would not have been able to tuck yourself in for lncomjng cars especially with dogs in tow beautiful place but please warn people about the terrain

  • "The house was lovely and was as described to a point, I say this as it was unclear from the information that the owner lived next door it was part of the owners home that even had an adjoining door."

Whilst we made the most of our time this was constantly on our mind. I would advise some outdoor pictures of the house would be an advantage and something we would have used, it would have likely resulted in us booking another cottage in the area with you. The hot tub was lovely with great views but the gravel garden did hinder our dog walking on it after several days.

I would have liked to have known in the property description that the owner lived next door. It may also be useful for people to know that there is a connecting door between the two properties.

Rather in the middle of nowhere, but within east travel to Hereford, Ross on Wye, Symonds Yat and more. Spent a long weekend there with daughter, son in law and 2 dogs and were lucky we had good weather to get out and about - the dogs particularly enjoyed Haugh Woods, just a 10 minute drive away. The hot tub was obviously the icing on the cake and my daughter and I spent lovely ‘girly’ times in there while the men watched rugby on the Sky sports channel! All in all a thoroughly enjoyable weekend.

Phil was a fantastic host who met us on arrival and told us about everything we needed to know about the cottage. Beds were so comfortable which made such a difference. Thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub and visits from "Percy" the peacock who we got to feed everyday. The most fantastic views from the garden and such a peaceful place. Lovely walks even for a not so able person such as myself. Would have no trouble whatsoever recommending a holiday to this wonderful place.

It has everything that you need already there and you just need to bring food. From a well equipped kitchen to crocks and dressing gowns so you can go in and out of the hot tub - which is high quality and has a lovely change of lights to set the mood. The owner has created a brilliant information book of local walks, pubs and is very welcoming on arrival. The garden is lovely and is laid to shingle. You have use of a BBQ with gas already. Sky TV for all the channels you need all in high definition. Dishwasher / Washing machine / Tumble Dryer / Microwave and a good size free standing freezer along with the usual other white goods. The bedrooms are lovely and spacious and high quality mattress made for a good night sleep! The cottage has two bedrooms - one with a shower on-suite/toilet and the 2nd bedroom next to a lovely bathroom//toilet with a free standing bath. Downstairs is another toilet room. The views outside are of country and fields - The silence is deafening - It is tranquil A large conservatory that has two sofas and a TV and a lovely lounge which is cozy Dogs: We brought our two dogs who loved the place. The shingle outside did hurt their feet a little - but that's because they ran so much! There is a resident Peacock who visits the garden and there is a supply of nuts so you can enjoy feeding it. I can not think of any negative things to say. Recommend visiting The Loughpool Bar and Restaurant - A very quaint building. Lunch was amazing in a good size garden
