"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Old Byre."
A beautiful, spacious property in a stunning location. Within easy reach of Ludlow & with plenty of National Trust properties to visit both close by and within easy travelling distance. We’d love to revisit in the future! Thank you Jill and Ray!

This was our first time staying at a Sykes cottage and so were not quite sure what to expect but we didn't need to worry, everything was first class

"Amazing cottage couldn’t fault it."
-
"From the moment we arrived we realised that this was an outstanding cottage."
Parking was easy and next to the cottage, it was beautifully clean and well furnished, everything we had hoped for and more. It was obvious that everything had been thought through to enth degree to make it a proper home from home, although one thing we all experienced was intermittent WiFi. When we met the owners the following morning, they were very welcoming. The cottage was well situated for visiting Ludlow and had the weather been better, the far reaching view from the lounge would have been incredible.

"Having suffered a great deal of stress and heartbreak, my son and I really needed a time of peace and quiet."
We could not have chosen better. The owners of the farm, Mr and Mrs Bufton were so welcoming and kind. we had everything we needed and more. The views from the Brye were spactacular, nothing but countryside and the Hills beyond. We could sit in the lounge and watch the wild life, squirrles, pheasents, kytes, buzzards, foxes and all manner of birds, even a Jenny Wren, and much more. The town of Ludlow was just a short drive away and is full of history including the Castle and many timbered buildings dating back to the 14th centuary. The autumn colours down by the river were amazing and there are lots of lovely places to eat. and many trails to walk. WE WILL BE BACK SOON WITH OTHER MEMBERS OF THE FAMILY TOO . Thank you so much, just what we needed and more. Home from Home.
-
"A lovely clean, warm and well equipped property in a great location."
Close to amenities yet in a quiet countryside setting on the owner's small holding. Lots of places of interest to visit. We enjoyed our short autumn break here.
-

It is very well equipped and has more kitchen utensils than you will ever need! The owners are very friendly and helpful and Jill makes wonderful marmalade!
-
"What a lovely accommodation."
So well equipped in the kitchen. A lovely bottle of wine to welcome you and a fantastic view from the lounge over the fields. Brilliant stay

"Lovely holiday property, clean and very comfortable ."
Good location.

"The Old Byre is a little gem of a property."
Fabulous views. Peace and quiet. The property is so warm and cosy, the bathrooms are lovely with great showers. Really clean throughout and lots of plug sockets in convenient places. The owners, on site, are very friendly. We had a fantastic stay and will definitely return.

"The cottage was well furnished, well equipped and immaculate upon arrival."
It had pretty views and amazing sunsets from the terrace and living room windows. It’s in a beautiful area with lots of lovely walks from the front door. It’s a very peaceful area and you can really relax and get away from everything (more so as the Wi-Fi isn’t very powerful but this was a very minor problem as there is so much to do). There is a DVD player so it’s handy to take along one or two for wet evenings if you don’t feel like playing the games or doing the jigsaws provided. The owners are very helpful and recommended an excellent restaurant nearby to go to for a celebratory meal. There are lots of great places to eat locally and lots of fabulous villages and towns to explore within an hour of the cottage. Our super holiday was made perfect by the fact that we had sunshine every day of the week which we hadn’t expected in February. We will definitely return – there are lots more restaurants for us to try and places to visit!
-
"Very comfortable, very clean and in a lovely position with friendly, helpful owners."
We very much enjoyed our stay.
-
"We thoroughly enjoyed our week at the old Byre a lovely cottage in a lovely location."
The hosts who lived on site were friendly and welcoming and gave advice on places to visit in the local area. We will certainly be back again Michael
-
"Lovely, clean cottage with beautiful views, and it contained everything that we needed."
Great countryside location with so many lovely places to visit nearby, and supermarket etc just a very convenient few miles away.
-
"The Old Byre is a lovely property in a peaceful location with access to many walks in the Shropshire countryside."
It was ideal for a family holiday with good sized bedrooms, kitchen, dining room and living space.
-
"We (3adults) had a great stay at The Old Byre."
The cottage was so comfortable and clean. Our hosts were welcoming and so helpful. Would recommend the property highly.
-
"We (four adults) were very comfortable in the cottage and we were welcomed by the friendly owners and a lovely bottle of wine."
There was everything you could want in the kitchen and the views from the living room and dining room across the fields of ripening yellow rape seed were fantastic. The beds were comfortable, the showers hot and refreshing and the accommodation was spacious. I would have liked an instruction book for the kitchen hob as I had never used one like it before. It was state of the art and very efficient. Luckily my brother-in-law has used one like it, he saved the day and breakfast was served on time. I was impressed by the degree of recycling of waste materials that was requested. So important these days. All in all, a wonderful holiday in a wonderful location
-
"Beautiful Byre containing everything we could possibly want and more."
Very comfortable too. Views to die for. Perfect and quiet location. Great hosts, there if needed. Lots of great places to visit within easy reach along empty roads.
-
"The cottage is one of the best we have ever stayed in, so comfortable and convenient."
The owners live next door and are very friendly and helpful. The view from the outside patio is stunning, and there are walks from the door. There are many places of interest within a small area so there is plenty to do. However the cottage is so restful that it doesn’t encourage rushing about! We will return.
-
"Peaceful barn conversion ."
High quality furnishings and bedding . Had everything we needed for a restful and comfortable stay . The bottle of wine from the owners was a thoughtful touch . Thank you .
-
"Beautifully furnished, warm and comfortable."
A peaceful getaway to relax and unwind.
-
"We had a wonderful holiday in The Old Byre."
The cottage was warm, comfortable, clean and very well equipped. We even had a great amount of sunshine! We loved the area and found wonderful places to eat in Ludlow. We would return!!!
-
"We had a wonderful stay at The Old Byre."
Warm, comfortable, well equipped, picturesque, friendly and welcoming owners. Great location with plenty to do in the area.
-
"This was a lovely cottage, well equipped and very clean."
The owners were friendly and helpful but not at all intrusive. We were given a lovely bottle of wine. The countryside is stunning and the view from the lounge windows was beautiful. We felt relaxed as soon as we arrived. We’d certainly like to return.
-
"Comfy interior and spotless."
Cottage met our expectations and we'd happily recommend to friends and family visiting the area.
-
"An amazing cottage which is well equipped with everything you need provided."
We have previously visited the old cider mill twice but we just missed booking that this time so booked the old byre instead and if anything we liked that even more. My sister and I both enjoy cooking and were able to produce some fantastic meals with the wonderful ingredients available in the area together with the great range of equipment in the kitchen. The owners are on hand next door should you need them. Another fabulous stay.
-
"This property and the owners are perfect can not fault anything about it they are always on hand if you require any help."
-
"The reason met expectations is identified above is that we have stayed at the cottage twice before."
It’s probably the easiest cottage to stay at of all the Sykes cottages we’ve booked. It’s clean and everything you require is available. We try to leave it in the same condition as when we arrived, within the time required, and don’t need Sykes to remind us of this prior to the end of the holiday.
-
"Excellent cottage."
Very well-equipped and comfortable. Owners next door helpful and very kind and concerned when our car broke down. Would thoroughly recommend.
-
"Having stayed at The Old Cider Mill previously we looked forward to our stay in the adjacent Old Byre."
We were not disappointed. The property proved to be a comfortable and peaceful retreat with a magnificent view. Whilst the undoubted attractions of Ludlow are on the doorstep, the location of The Old Byre allows easy access to the delightful surrounding rural area. There are many interesting towns and National Trust properties within easy travelling distance. Walkers are spoiled for choice. The Long Mynd, the Clee Hills, riverside walks and many others are close by.
-
"Very good location for touring the Welsh Marches"
-
"What a great experience."
Everything about this property and subsequently our holiday was spot on! The owners were a lovely, helpful and relaxed couple and the cottage beautifully appointed, clean and warm. Not too far to pop into Ludlow and/or enjoy walking in the area. Have already recommended to friends without hesitation!
-
"Beautiful barn conversion in an excellent location - wonderful west-facing terrace with huge views."
Furnishing and equipment very good (perhaps firmer mattresses on single beds better for adults) and The Old Byre is very well-presented - lovely wooden doors and floor, restful decoration in an idyllic setting.
-
"This cottage is in a wonderful location with everything you need and more."
Very comfortable indeed ..... owners very welcoming and friendly. Highly recommended
-
"Peaceful village location with open fields at the rear leading up to Caynham Camp (bronze/iron age fort), yet less than 10mins drive to the shops, pubs and restaurants of Ludlow."
As a family of 4 with boys aged 14 and 11 we couldn’t have asked for anything more perfect for a week’s retreat in rural England. The building is a historical stone/brick barn that has been beautifully restored with all the modern conveniences. We wanted to maintain good social distancing from the owner’s adjacent farm house and this was easily accommodated by the layout of the separate buildings. Nice and clean with decor and fittings all working well and still retaining a new feel (a small plumbing issue was quickly fixed so the owners are clearly keeping on top of things). An information folder gave plenty of guidance on local walks etc. Our only criticisms were a lack of external storage for muddy boots (a very minor point since we simply brought them inside and the wood flooring ensured no carpet stains to worry about) and rather light weight duvets (the underfloor heating kept the whole place warm and toasty but we have got used to sleeping under heavier ones). BBC iPlayer was a bit slow on a couple of evenings but whether the BBC’s fault or not we couldn’t guess. All in all, the Old Byre is probably the nicest holiday home we have stayed in for many years over several continents and we cannot recommend it more highly for a peaceful getaway with all the comforts of home.
-
"Great cottage."
Comfortable beds and sofas. Very clean. Lovely view and friendly owners. Plenty of room and a bonus to have two ensuite rooms. Would recommend to anyone.
-
"So relaxing, the peaceful location was delightful."
The view from the cottage was superb, and the helpful owners next door told us how to walk to the hill fort nearby. Could not have enjoyed our week more.
-
"The cottage was really lovely a home from home."
It was clean and tidy and everything we needed for our stay. Beautiful countryside views and very peaceful. The sign for the cottage was a little hard to see from the road but that was the only thing. Not far from Ludlow and other places of interest. A co/op store was only a short drive away. Wish we could have stayed longer.
-
"Booking was very quick and easy."
The cottage was great and the area was excellent. The owners were very nice easy to contact and very friendly. We would definitely recommend the cottage. Thank you
-

It’s a pleasant area of Shropshire and it’s location makes it easy to move around to surrounding area, up to at least 50 miles.

Perfect location and we will be returning

"We had a warm welcome from the owner."
The cottage is immaculate and spacious but comfortable and cosy too with excellent facilities. It's in a beautiful location. One of the best we've stayed in.
-
"We had a lovely holiday (in spite of the rather damp weather)."
The cottage was very comfortable and we really enjoyed exploring an area we hadn’t visited before.
-
"This is a place which I would readily recommend."
I think that an individual would need to be particularly pedantic to find fault with the "Old Brye". It's location is ideal for exploring Shropshire and adjoining counties. Shopping facilities, petrol station and the "Squirrel" pub are only two and a half miles away and nearby is the Ludlow Park and Ride, which I would recommend the use of for visits into Ludlow town. The owners, Ray and Jill, were both friendly and helpful and not intrusive. My wife and myself really enjoyed our stay.
-
"Fabulous cottage."
Very warm and comfortable, lovely location, walks from the cottage. Friendly cow’s in the barn. Very friendly and helpful owners. Nearby Ludlow has lots of nice bars and restaurants.

Lovely host and hostess. Great area. Definitely a find for cottage lovers!
-
"Fantastic cottage with everything we needed and more."
Great for two couples or a family and very child-friendly. The owners were very friendly and helpful.
-
"Excellent other than WIFI not good at times, but this is due to internet coverage in this area, not the fault of the owner."
-
"The cottage is an absolute delight and in a beautiful setting."
-
"Superb 5 star cottage very high standard of furniture and fittings."
Very good view from cottage .owners extremely helpful Nice walks. cottage within three miles of Ludlow This is a working farm with animals about but not a problem as in a large barn close by.
-
"We know the area well,we have been once before to this cottage."
and find the owners very pleasant and friendly and feel as we have known them for a long time.
-
"This is a beautiful cottage with everything you could possibly need for a quiet relaxing holiday in peaceful surroundings."
the twin bedroom was a bit small for two adults but as you don't spend much time in it, it doesn't matter. the only other gripe was that the towels were smaller than we are used to but we managed. would definitely go back as everything else is so good including the friendly hosts.
