  • "A lovely large property with very good facilities."

The beds were very comfy. The bedrooms were large. It easily accommodated our 8 adults, 5 children and a baby and 2 dogs. There is a nice piece of lawn for the dogs and only about 50yds down the road is a small park next to the Wye. There is a huge dining table that we easily fit around. We liked Beechenhurst in the forest which is only 10 minutes away for dog walks and a lovely dog friendly cafe. Cafe Vanille which is almost opposite the house is lovely and dog friendly with great food. A lovely location and house.

  • "We had a 2 night stay at the property for a family get together."

We all loved the house, which is very attractive and well equipped with a pretty garden and terrace. The bedrooms are all very spacious and the beds comfortable. There were 10 of us so we managed well with 3 bathrooms - that might have been more difficult had there been more people (3 others were unable to come due to illness). A separate downstairs loo would be a great addition to the property. The kitchen dining area is particularly well set up for a large group. The weather was not kind, but we managed to bbque on Saturday night and to sit outside for drinks, which was lovely. We had our 89 year old father with us and he found the steps up to the house and up to the terrace very difficult as there are no hand rails anywhere. And there are a couple of drops in the garden - off the terrace and off the top grass area - which are not fenced in any way and which would have been very tricky had our 2 year old grandson been with us as expected. However, all in all, we had a very enjoyable stay and would consider renting the house again if returning to the area.

  • "This is a lovely property, even better in real life although some of the pictures don’t reveal the full layout (ie the staircase which is an integral part of the property has lots of character)."

Also three toilets, two with a shower and bath although and one described as a shower room only! So a real bonus. Great location and although parking isn’t great for multiple cars it wasn’t a problem finding on-street parking opposite. Lovely interesting and well maintained gardens which our dog absolutely loved exploring and it was very chilled to sit at the 10 people table and look out over the lovely hills and countryside. Lots of interesting parts of the property and it’s worth reading the history. The kitchen/diner was superb and the lovely 12-14 seat table was a great place to have family meals or just hang out. Though the most sort out area was one of the living room’s bay window with its views and leather sofa to sit and watch the world go by. Although the property was only metres from the road it still felt very secluded and the lower floors you couldn’t see the road. It’s also right opposite a pub (grumpy landlord though) and an amazing tea shop/cafe (Cafe Vanille) which supplied a ridiculously good value for money delicious home made afternoon tea for 12, delivered direct to the property! The larger bedrooms at the front of were particularly nice and all the beds were super comfy. The grandkids absolutely loved their room on the top floor! A stair gate is provided which made the top floor into a kind of private apartment for my daughter’s family! Lol A great base to explore the area or just hang out as a family and the perfect property to create lots of memories that will last a lifetime.

  • "Viaduct House was a great venue for family and friends to get together to celebrate three milestone birthdays."

The rooms were all beautifully decorated, spacious and well equipped and the beds were very clean and comfortable. Cooking for up to 16 people can be tricky but the kitchen was excellent with all the equipment I could have wanted including a superb fridge / freezer and a good sized dishwasher. The garden was lovely for the two dogs and the two grandchildren to play, and they spent hours playing hide-and-seek all around the garden; whilst the adults sat in the sunshine at the comfortable chairs on the patio sipping wine and chatting. We had two lovely barbecues in the evening sun on the patio taking in the fresh air and the beautiful views. Lydbrook was a perfect venue from which to visit all parts of the Forest of Dean and surroundings. All in all a great week in a lovely area and in a beautiful house.

  • "This house is incredible!"

We used this house for 14 adults, one baby and two dogs. There was plenty of space for us to spread out around the house but to also come together at the huge kitchen table or outside seating area. The owners of this house have thought of everything. The beds were comfortable and the rooms spacious. On our arrival we were provided with fresh eggs, homemade bread, butter and a delicious cake, big enough for us all to have a slice. The owners sent me all the details of the house and of any restaurants or places to visit we might like to visit. I just wish we had been staying longer than a weekend. We have made such fantastic family memories. I would highly recommend this awesome house.

Beautiful setting with lovely garden and well equipped patio. The welcome gifts were lovely particularly the cake. The only fault I can recall was the large kettle which had a loose connector which had to be carefully positioned. It was safe but a nuisance to manage. One other potential issue was the top bedroom door which would not open from inside when firmly shut.

  • "Viaduct House was a lovely place to stay for my friend’s hen party weekend, suitable for 16 adults (as long as 8 people are willing to share beds with someone else)."

Lovely good size bedrooms and comfortable beds. The house is in a gorgeous location right near the river and only 15 minutes from the nearest grocery shops, despite being in a small village. The hosts were great, setting up the top floor as twin beds, and allowing us to leave whenever we liked on the Sunday. They even made us up a fabulous welcome hamper with bread, butter, eggs, milk and a massive cake! The only thing I would suggest is maybe some investment in new oven trays, spatulas and knives as these were a little lacking (the trays were quite dirty, spatulas were a bit melted and the knives blunt). I would also say we had some wet weather so it could have been good to provide a doormat to wipe wet shoes on by the front door. It was a bit of a squeeze to sit all of us in 1 room to use the TV screen but we made it work. Thanks for having us!

The Christmas tree was a nice touch. As was a delicious cake made by the housekeeper. Communication was excellent however the house was very tired and needs lots of TLC. The lounges were freezing cold, wood was damp so had to purchase fuel. One of the fireplaces was unusable, smoked and the fumes were awful. Kettles either didn't work and one that did needed descaling. Some kitchen utensils needed replacing.. icemaker and water chiller was broken although they did provide isome ice. Under ione of the beds there was wood with a nail sticking out. Usb plugs missing so no music. With a good bit of maintenance this house could be lovely but at the moment it is definitely not a 5 star rating. However the location was great and we did have a fantastic time with the family.

  • "Viaduct house is a great place to stay for people who like entertaining at home and for people who like country activities: there is so much available without driving."

I cannot imagine a more perfect setting for outdoor entertainment in the summer but we did not use in January. The kitchen is perfect for up to 14 people and there is enough crockery, cutlery and glasses for 20. We were greeted with a delicious and giant home-make cake as well as a selection of local produce in a wicker basket. The bedrooms are all of ample size and the combination of double and twin rooms makes the accommodation very flexible. This is all excellent and unusual but it makes being there easy. The sitting rooms only have seats for 7 in the room with the bay window and 4 in the other room, so getting together as a group is a bit of a squeeze. For day to day washing we found the glass programme in the dishwasher the best for crockery, cutlery and glasses straight from the table, the other programmes took hours. There was a broken champagne flute in the sink when we arrived and all of the wine glasses in the cupboard needed washing being clouded with a milky film and two were cracked. Not perfect but hardly a trauma. The shower on the first floor did not drain leaving people standing up to their ankles in water. We bought sink un-blocker and solved that. Perhaps the most important way of working out if we would recommend Viaduct House for a holiday is to let you know that we are looking into booking another week in the summer of 2022, so we can use the outside spaces and the local walks more. Large houses to rent are not easy to find and very few are really capable of accommodating the number they claim in comfort. Viaduct House is good

The only thing that would have made it better would have been a slightly later check out time as Sunday morning felt quite rushed to get 16 people breakfast, packed and cleaning up by 10am.

  • "Lovely house with nice outdoor facilities."

Kitchen had everything we needed. There was a problem, however, with the fire alarm on the first floor going off three times in the night on Saturday without any obvious reason, which was very tiresome.

  • "This is a lovely old house with a lot of character and has been refurbished to a very high standard."

Lots of room for 10 adults, 4 children and 2 dogs. A welcome hamper was greatly appreciated, including a sumptuous lemon drizzle cake. We would recommend this property though for anyone with mobility issues, there are a few steps up to the front door.
