  • "Another fantastic stay at Alice cottage, was kept updated by email and phone from the time I made the reservation to the time we left."

The village is very friendly and quiet. Lovely places to visit and only a short car drive. We had a tour of little oak vineyard would highly recommended fun and friendly owners.

Thank you for your lovely feedback, we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and the recommendation to visit little Oak Vineyard. We shall look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Best Wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "Car parking space very misleading in info of cottage."

Courtyard, what courtyard!!! If the car parking info was written correctly we would never have booked Alice cottage. Cottage was cob webby in places, bit dusty, garden overgrown and chairs in sun room were old and extremely uncomfortable!! Enjoyed our stay though, even with lack of a decent parking space. The car parking space could be tarmaced over and made level and would be somewhat easier to park on a hill!! Photo of car parking space in holiday info maybe needed to advise people with mobility issues.

Many thanks for taking the time to provide us with feedback following your stay. We are glad you enjoyed your stay but we are sorry to hear that the property was not up to our usual high standards and we will raise this with our housekeeping team. We will also look at the listing details to ensure if there is more information required. Kind Regards, Manor Cottages Property Owner

What a beautiful little village. Only things that could made it easier was getting to into the box of the one key & locking the front door. Other than that now that we figured out how things work we would definitely go back.

  • "Positives: Cottage was nice, good comfy bed, good shower great location."

Negatives: over powering smell of wet dog, had to sit outside in car for 3 hours whilst airing the cottage, I called housekeeping next morning who did come out and wash the downstairs carpet, but unfortunately it didn’t rectify the problem, as all the carpet and sofa smell of dog, had to use a whole bottle of fabreeze and an air freshener, unfortunately this did spoil our stay. Recommendation: replace carpet and sofa so that both are washable to prevent the awful wet dog smell. Then the cottage will be lovely.

  • "Parking a nightmare - it was bank holiday weekend so no parking near cottage when we arrived - thereafter allocated parking space was available but in a narrow no through road on a steep incline between two cars - you have to be a good driver!"

Main bedroom lovely but single bedroom unsuitable for anyone other than a small child - bed small, noise from what we assumed to be the water heater firing up all night. There were only two of us but we required separate beds. Only one ring of two on induction hob worked at any one time, limiting cooking ability. No ‘welcome pack’ unless you count the miserly packet of biscuits - only one toilet roll for a week! Mould in shower and cracked shower tray. Garden untended, full of weeds.Blockley village however is lovely if you can find somewhere else to stay. I cannot recommend Alice Cottage.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. We're sorry to hear you encountered some issues at the cottage. Had we been notified during your stay we would have tried to rectify any problems. We have now passed all your comments to the Property Manager. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

The cleaner provided by sykes or through owner needs checking as all light fittings had loads of cobwebs on them. Cottage had everything we needed for our stay and room for our party of 2 adults and 2 medium sized dogs. No parking issues as the owners of the cottage that share the parking space were away, so the first-come-first-served issue did not apply. Neighbours further down the street very friendly and welcoming, as indeed was everyone in the village. We all enjoyed our holiday very much.

However, compared to my experiences with AirBnB, the cottage was poorly stocked. I had to buy necessities that should have been supplied. Also I will not use Sykes again. They were too rigid in their booking. Once the down payment is made you are stuck. Whereas with AirBnB you have a lot of freedom to change things if things change in.your life.

  • "Cosy cottage in a lovely village at the heart of the Cotswolds."

Great to sit in front of a warming log burner fire. Downsides: 1. Settee suits 2 persons only 2. Breakfast table ok for 2 but needs pulling out for 3. 3. Stairs not really suitable if you have mobility issues 4. Mould on bathroom window 5. Parking for 1 car opposite cottage but better suits a 4 wd car if weather is wet/ icy 6. Important remedial work needed (a) kitchen window area leaks in heavy rain..came through the wall & ceiling, close to electrics/wiring (b) similar ..in heavy rain water comes into front conservatory down the wall, flooding the floor near front inner door. Again water close to electrics. Both above really needs gutters repairing/replacing asap. Could be a great cottage for 2 people + dog if the owner completes the repairs and cleans inside mould issues. Agents offered to try & relocate us to another local cottage but we loved the location...we tolerated the rain water problem but wouldn't recommend to others if work is not completed!

Thank you for taking time to provide this comprehensive feedback. We're so sorry that you encountered problems caused by heavy rain and can inform you that the owner is now having major remedial work done on the roof. We did try and call you quite a few times prior to your stay, to arrange to move you to another property, when we realised the impact of the very heavy rain/storm. But i understand you choose to stay at the house. It's very unfortunately that it happened and we are very apologetic about the situation. We hope to welcome you again very soon in the future. Paid to facilitate our dog and small child. Popped out for 2 hours for supplies after a long family walk to a rude not on the door stating we were not allowed to leave our dog unattended. Seems a neibhour wrote the note. Who takes there dog absolutely everywhere? We literally popped to the shop for some essentials. It left a really bad taste in our mouth that someone had been spying on us and watching our comings and going’s. We came on a dog walking holiday and it seems that it’s not a dog friendly property for the sheer fact that neibhours have nothing better to do than. spy on people that being their pets. For that reason we will not attend again and not recommend it

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. We're very sorry to hear that the neighbours at Alice Cottage had apparently complained about your dog. We have contacted the Owner and it would seem it's an isolated event, which has never happened before. I hope you didn't let this one off event spoil your stay at the cottage and i hope you managed to try the wonderful little cafe in Blockley for a bite to eat. • "The location is great but the parking is very difficult."

The sitting room comfort left a lot to be desired, only One 2 seater settee was not comfortable and was unfortunately the only option to relax on. The bathroom is very small no room to hardly turn round this was not really accurately described and was quite a shock how small it was. The bed and mattress is so bad so uncomfortable it needs urgent replacement also I was shocked when removing pillow cases at end of our stay they were disgusting need immediate replacement. Fortunately the weather was nice most of the time but the garden furniture was not good that also wants replacing old metal table and chairs no comfort at all. To sum up in our opinion the cottage seriously needs an overhaul and starting with the bed as top priority. To sum up we are very disappointed to have to give such a negative review having had holidays at cottages in York and the Peake District which were excellent .

Thank you for providing feedback for your stay at Alice Cottage. Parking in Blockley is generally busy, as with lots of Cotswold villages/towns in peak times. The cottage does only have a 2 seater sofa, but it also has lots of chairs around the house for additional guests. This is due to the size of the cottage. With regards to the bathroom, it shows on the images and noted on the website it's a small bathroom. The mattress has been replaced by the owner and so have the pillows. The outdoor furniture is the type that look antique, but you also have the bench to sit on and enjoy your morning coffee if you would prefer, for those days that are a little cooler, you can enjoy the sun room instead. We hope you managed to still enjoy your stay and make the most of the area. Kind regards Character Cottages Property Owner

  • "The cottage is a good base for exploring the area, and Blockley is a lovely village."

We were grateful that the problem with the stuck plug in the washbasin was quickly solved, but another domestic issue needs attention. When we arrived the outside bin was already full. We put it out on Tuesday evening but it was not emptied the following day. Though we try to produce as little waste as possible, we therefore had to store all our refuse in the cottage and leave it behind at the end of our stay. In addition we took glass and plastic bottles home with us for recycling. Nearby houses put out waste and recycling on Sunday evening, and it was promptly collected the next day. It is hard to see why Alice Cottage is not part of this scheme.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback following your stay. We're glad you enjoyed the cottage and exploring the surrounding area. We have made enquiries regarding the refuse collection issue and have been assured that this has now all been resolved. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Property Owner

  • "Alice Cottage is really beautiful, tastefully furnished and clean."

Comfortable veranda at the entrance, ideal for taking off wet jackets and shoes before entering the house. Large and well equipped kitchen. Only the dishwasher is missing, otherwise there is really everything, even a very useful washer / dryer. The bathroom, located on the upper floor, is small but functional. The large and tastefully furnished double bedroom. That single little one but pretty. The strength of the cottage is undoubtedly the small corner living room with fireplace. Especially when it is raining and cold outside, being able to relax in front of the fireplace, is really a unique and priceless experience (wood is necessary to light the fire provided by the property). Convenient private parking in front of the entrance. Excellent location. The picturesque village of Blockley is the ideal starting point to visit the Cotswolds. Simply perfect for those who want a relaxing holiday in the heart of the English countryside. Finally, I point out the seriousness of the agency that manages the property. Really very kind and helpful. If we were to return to the Cotswolds in the future, we would have no doubt, we would definitely go back to the Alice Cottage. Highly recommended!

An ancient village once famous for its silk and corn mills, Blockley lies just 3 miles from Moreton-in-Marsh and features a unique collection of honey-coloured buildings with a pretty village green, two excellent pubs, serving hearty food and real ale, as well as a village store and café, serving dinner on a Friday night. Many walks and cycle rides through the beautiful rolling countryside of the Cotswolds can be enjoyed from the centre of the village, with the Macmillan Way, Heart of England Way and the Gloucestershire and Monarch's Way all running close by. Very close by, Moreton-in-Marsh boasts many elegant 18th century buildings and is home to traditional inns, tea rooms, restaurants and individual shops to suit all tastes. It also offers its own train station and lies on the intersection of the Paddington rail line from London. The town hosts the Moreton-In-Marsh Show, one of the UK's largest one-day agricultural shows, as well as the Moreton Beer Festival, an annual French Market, and a large outdoor market every Tuesday. The highest town in the Cotswolds, this ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly farmers' market. Close by is Bourton-on-the-Water, which lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is known as the Venice of the Cotswolds as the River Windrush runs through the centre.
