Ideal location to be able to walk to most places of interest. We were able to park our car outside the property as our daughter has a disabled badge so we didn’t need to park in hotel car park. Having the hot tub was perfect to relax in after walking around. Would definitely stay again and highly recommend.

  • "Cottage was extremely grubby and tired."

Stains on furniture, floor dirty and chips in paint work. Mould in bathroom and musty smell from room downstairs that could be smelt even with the door shut.

The Cottage is kept impeccably clean by Annabel as can seen from other reviews. It’s possible you were expecting a modern property rather than an old characterful Victorian cottage. The furniture is regularly steam cleaned, and the floor is cleaned, as you would expect during each turnover, but admittedly there are a few chips in the painted wood. We think this adds character. The room downstairs you are referring to is the cellar but this not usually an issue. Sorry you were disappointed. I love staying there and so do many others. Property Owner

Annabelle the housekeeper was exceptionally helpful and responded immediately to any queries we had. The cottage is in the centre of Stratford, around a 7 minute walk from the train station and has a fabulous hot tub - exactly what we wanted for a ladies break away. They even provided spa slippers for us. We would definitely recommend and probably visit again in the future.

The beds and sofas were very comfortable. The hot tub is a real bonus - we were fortunate enough to have fantastic weather so we made a lot of use of this. • "The cottage is in a great location, walking distance to the centre of town, however, the cottage is a bit tired and in need of some maintenance."

The garden is overgrown and the seating in the garden isn't comfortable. The tap in the kitchen was loose. The decor is obviously old and the paintwork grubby and faded, the bathroom needs modernising. The beds were clean and comfortable though and there was a good supply of towels. The kitchen was well equipped.

Thanks for your review. We deliberately have not modernised throughout in order to retain the old charm of these Old Town Victorian cottages. However the decor is not that old! We have regularly repainted since we took over in 2017. We’d love to modernise the bathroom and if interest rates go down, we will certainly do that as our next project. Property Owner

Some carpets are the worse for wear but overall it was a great spot for the theatre and shops.

Hi! We often have feedback that the jets are not working but they are! Ask the housekeeper or check the Visitors Guide A-Z. We’ve been fully booked this year often bookings have been back to back and we would like to wet clean the carpet on the stairs (most of the house is wooden floors/hard flooring) as often as possible - but it’s just been crazy. If guests would like to take off their shoes when going up the stairs, that would be helpful. From January, we are changing that carpet assuming we get a chance to renovate which we didn’t this year. Beds so comfy and quality linen. Plenty of towels provided and kitchen equipment. Location perfect. Instructions very clear with Annabelle and communication quick. Parking a bonus. Beginning to look a bit tired could do with some TLC. No light around hot tub so if using during the evening very dangerous. Summer house was a no go. Not clean and struggle to open door.

Thanks for the feedback. It has been a busy year and we’ve had little time between bookings to repaint the damage to the paintwork all occurring this year, but we plan to in January. Sorry about the summerhouse - surprised that it was a no go, but if there is any issue, please speak to Annabel and she will address it. We will look at lighting around the hot tub next year - thanks for the tip! Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely weekend stay in Heath Cottage Stratford upon Avon to celebrate my Husband’s birthday."

The cottage is cosy and the extra amenities such as; a dishwasher, washing machine, sky box, etc. that make your stay more relaxing. The beds were very comfortable and while there was some noise from the pub opposite as other reviewers mentioned (I only noticed this as I’m somewhat of a night owl) it didn’t stop me any of us from sleeping. Including my 6 month old son who is an incredibly light sleeper. We loved having the use of the hot tub, which is really why we chose to stay at this property over others. I would agree with other reviews that there does seem to be a problem with the Wi-Fi connection dropping repeatedly. Thankfully this didn’t particularly affect our stay short here as we spent most of the time enjoying the town and the hot tub in the garden. My almost 3 year old son loved his “little holiday house” and particularly enjoyed his trip to the ‘cookie cottage’ down shrives walk. Annabel the house keeper was very helpful via text prior to our arrival and we didn’t need much more assistance as everything else was quite self explanatory, with signs explaining use of the hot tub etc.

Thank you for the lovely feedback and we're really glad you enjoyed your stay. We're perplexed as to what's going on with the WIFI. We stayed in April and streamed like mad and then again stayed at the end of May and we didn't have any WIFI issues. If any guests do have issues with WIFI, please let Annabel the housekeeper know (when it's happening, where it's happening, how frequently) and we will see what we can be done about reporting the issue to the internet provider with a view to improving it. Otherwise we're at a bit of a loss! There were reported issues years ago but we thought they were resolved. Property Owner

  • "The location of the property is perfect and it is a nice property but a bit tatty and battered and in need of attention in some areas."

We feel for the amount we paid (over £900 for three days) it could have been better. The hot tub was hot and clean but it does not work properly. The garden is in need of cutting back and tidying and the summerhouse offered no appeal - too many cobwebs. The bathroom is shabby and the shower control very stiff. The cream stair carpet is badly marked and needs a good clean or replacing- it just looks bad. We did not use the cellar room - it smelt musty/damp. The second bedroom needs more hanging storage. The positive of this property is the location.

Hi Heather, thanks for the feedback. One woman's "battered' is another woman's "vintage/shabby chic". If only you could turn a Victorian cottage into a Scandi-style apartment without entirely removing its character. We tried to find the balance of modern Cotswold furnishings with Victoriana. In the end it's a question of taste. And we like it as it is, some do, some don't. You may want to check out photos on www.heathcottages.co.uk as the Sykes photos are very well lit and may lead you to thinking it’s more of a modern property than a character cottage. The hot tub does work - we've had engineers in to check and they said it was fine. If you're having issues, call Annabel. The garden is maintained but we've had trouble getting the gardener consistently in during Covid - hopefully next year it works better. September is the season for spiders - they go nuts - but in October, it was cobweb free and is very pleasant to sit in. The stairs carpet has been a thorn in our side this year. People have been going up and down in muddy shoes. Despite surviving our first 3 years of being in business, it’s going to have to go at the end of this season. Annabel has bought a carpet cleaner and now washes it every turnover until we can replace. We had a roof leak in August which leaked down into the cellar so this would have still been drying out. I had an oil radiator on down there drying out the room, but it gets switched off. However, I was there in October and it was all fine. The hanging space in bed 2 is 3 hooks with hangers. There is a wardrobe in bed 1. Property Owner

Cottage was extremely comfortable and Annabelle was really helpful. Hot tub gave us relaxing evening chilling in the garden although no all the jets we're working and you do have to be out by 10pm as its situated in a residential area. The only thing that puzzled me by this was when we went to bed we could here the music from the pub over the road! Other wise 5 stars, would revisit.

Thank you so much, Julie! Jets are apparently fine - we called in an engineer but it's all good. If anyone has issues with jets, it may be just that you haven't found the button, call Annabel - she'll sort it! Because the tub is right next door to our neighbour's house, she has asked if people can be asked to come in by 10pm. It's just a courtesy to our neighbour whom we're fond of! You can continue to make noise in the house for a further hour until the pub closes! Property Owner

  • "The cottage is in the perfect location in relation to the town, restaurants and activities."

However, the pub opposite the cottage has some issues with drugs. We were woken twice during our stay with people buying, selling and arguing over drugs. The area is clearly residential but during the night the road was used as a racetrack! The cottage had everything we needed. Unfortunately though, for the price we paid, (£1000) there were things we felt could be improved. On arrival we noticed that the previous occupants rubbish hadn’t been taken away, I had to sort the bathroom bin with a bag, there was no toilet roll holder, no hand towels for hand washing which meant we had to use the towels that we’d been given for showering. The cupboard in the kitchen with no handle had all of the plates in, so that took a while to find!! We’re aware that every holiday home is different but this is the first one we stayed in with no tea, coffee or little bottle of milk in the fridge and no welcome treat, obviously not a given but a surprise after our holidays in the past. We felt it wasn’t as clean as it could be, dust behind doors, the dining room table, and cupboard doors in the kitchen. Everything looked a bit tired and in need of updating/painting. The housekeeper was very helpful when the WiFi went down and came over the same day to fix it, however it continued to be intermittent during the remainder of our stay.

Hi Caroline, thanks for the feedback. We’ve no idea what is meant by drugs issues! We’ve asked around the neighbourhood to see if anyone else has had issues here and we’re all quite bemused by this! It’s a very narrow Victorian street with double-parking so racing down is not advised! The old town of Stratford is a very quiet place, by the church where Shakespeare is buried, close to the town and generally with residents of more mature years. If there are any issues with things being forgotten on the housekeeping, then please please do always contact Annabel the housekeeper during your stay who is there to make sure your stay is as comfortable as possible. We can’t help you after you have left! We haven’t offered welcome packs this year because under Guidelines we weren’t supposed to but hopefully we can bring this back next year. I know Annabel thinks the Guidelines are too strict and has sneaked in some tea and coffee. The convenience store is very close by though. On the decoration, because it’s Victorian, we’ve tried to find the balance between updating and keeping original features. It’s not intended to be a modern Scandi design but a cosy comfortable English cottage with nooks and crannies. The internet works fine when I am there – I’ve never had an issue – so I think you must have been unlucky. Property Owner

We weren't able to park outside but a paid parking space in NCP carpark provided. However, only needed the car for out of town trips. On the whole the cottage was very comfortable, fantastic jacuzzi. We stayed a week a few simple improvements could be made. A larger wardrobe in bedroom I which there is space for, no storage in second bedroom so daughters had to keep clothes in cases in the basement room. More electrical points upstairs. The controls on the shower are quite stiff, making it difficult to turn on/off. Unfortunately the drier couldn't be used when we were there. We used the log burner one night but no proper tools provided, so quite difficult to use and couldn't clean it afterwards. Other than these few issues very enjoyable stay.

Hi Sarah, thank you. It's tricky getting any furniture into this Victorian period property! The wardrobe in bed 1 is the biggest we could get (see photo). Bed 2, like Bed 1, has a luggage rack and hooks for hanging. If you bring lots, store extra stuff in the snug cellar. The Cottage was set up to be suitable for short breaks but with Covid, we've seen week-long stays this year. We had a roof leak which has now been corrected by a new conservatory built on the side and we intend to replace the dryer in Jan. The burner is set up so you shouldn't need more than the heatproof gloves for throwing in logs. Eventually we will replace the bathroom with a better shower - it is a bit stiff but once it’s on, it’s lovely and there’s always the shower in the snug as an alternative, but this is only our 4th year of renting our family holiday home & there's always more to be done! Thank you all very much. The cottage itself was ideal for us, the weather good so we were only there overnight, but it was perfectly placed for a very short walk to all the facilities on offer in the town. • "The summary indicated plenty of storage room in bedrooms."

There was a small wardrobe in one bedroom and three coat hooks in the other. There was an absence of accessible plug sockets upstairs which made it difficult to dry hair with any mirror in reach The fridge in the kitchen had no door storage for milk bottles. Therefore had to use the fridge in the utility room. Found the property to be tired and in need of updating. On a positive note, location was excellent and the garden was tidy and caught the sun.

Hi Sheila, thanks for your feedback. There's an electric socket within reach of the mirror in bed 1, and in bed 2 the socket within reach of the mirror is behind the door so you may have missed it! The fridge in the kitchen can store bottles provided they are lying down but as you say we have a large fridge freezer in the laundry which is very close by so if you need to store your bottles upright, you can with a short walk. The property was updated in 2017 with restoring the Victorian fireplace from a 1970s horror and installing flooring, a hot tub, a new conservatory (this Autumn) and so it is constantly being maintained and updated, subject to funds being available. We would at some point like to update the doors and the bathroom but for now it is as you see in the photos. It’s a character cottage, not a modern apartment. So if you’re looking for a modern town apartment, this is not for you. If you’re looking for a cosy Cotswoldian cottage with original fireplace and some period features, then you will find it charming and comfortable. Property Owner
