  • "We had a lovely time at Barn End Cottage!"

The cottage was beautiful and the bed was very comfortable, the bedding was really nice quality too! The only criticism is that it could do with a few little paint touch ups and a good wet vacuum of the sofa as it was a bit grubby. It is really worth noting that there is no outside area for dogs so even though the house is dog friendly you do have to be careful outside as there is no gate. Other than that we were really impressed with everything and had the loveliest time in the cottage and the Cotswolds. PS: The pub is no longer open in the village which was a bit of a disappointment as we wanted one we could walk to.

  • "The village of Broad Campden is stunning full of picture perfect cottages."

The first impressions of Barn End cottage are very good and there are some good points, the kitchen is well equipped and good quality, the lounge itself is good with a log burner. However there are some issues. Although it says dog friendly, there is no outside space for dogs to roam as there is no back garden and the front is straight onto a road with no gate, there is only parking space and a small table with two chairs at the front. The beds are VERY uncomfortable, especially in the main bedroom, the side nearest the window has a big dip in I had to pull my husband out of it! The pillows were also poor quality and uncomfortable. The sofa is also poor and very uncomfortable. Also we could not check in until 4 o’clock which we thought was a bit late when you pay for that day. These things would make us not want to return. There is a guest book where these issues have been highlighted going back years but obviously nothing has been changed. It is a shame as by upgrading the beds and sofa it would make all the difference to your experience and would make you want to stay again, as the cottage itself is lovely, as it is we would not go again, so it would be a good investment.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear of your comfort issues. We appreciate you raising these with us and we are in discussions with the owner to resolve. A dog friendly property is a property that accepts pets. It is your choice whether you think it is suitable for your pet. We are pleased that you loved the location and hope you enjoyed exploring the surrounding area. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "This cottage was advertised as dog friendly."

However there was only a very small front space at the front of the property and no gate Property on busy road The first impression was not good. Blown windows, a door mat that had seen better days and a boot scrapper that had disintegrated The downstairs loo had a yucky mop and an ironing board. Not hygienic The sofa was not relaxing and the cover had staining The mattress was not comfortable and the pillows were poor quality The towels and bedding were fine Overall a disappointment. Cottage could be lovely but in need of an upgrade

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your recent stay at Barn End Cottage. We are sorry to hear that the stay didn't come up to our usual high standards on this occasion. I read the reviews which made me a little nervous. No need. The beds were lovely and comfy. Kitchen had everything you needed. Walked to Chipping Camden and went for great breakfast at Bantam Tea Room. Had dinner at the Bakers Arms which was simple but delicious and the staff and locals were lovely and friendly. As other reviews said it is dog friendly but no enclosed outside space.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this review. We're delighted your enjoyed your weekend at Barn End Cottage and also made the most of the local amenities. We would love to welcome you again. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

Barn End Cottage was cosy, clean and comfortable. A name sign at the end of the driveway by the road would be useful, as we drove past the cottage and needed help to find our destination. Excellent service from the office staff. Thank you.

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at Barn End Cottage. It's great to hear you had a lovely stay at the barn and thank you for the feedback with regards to the name sign, i will pass this onto the owner for review. My only feedback would be the pain on the staircase is chipped and spoils the upmarket feel that the rest of the cottage has. The mattress/topper on the main bed isn’t the most comfortable on top of the solid bed base. Location is brilliant and we loved the village.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your time away and we appreciate your suggestions for improvement. We hope that we can welcome you again one day in the future. Best wishes, Manor Cottages. Property Owner

  • "The setting in Broad Campden is beautiful and faultless."

The property has some positive aspects such as beautiful original beams and a log burner. However, is furnished on a very low budget, everything from Ikea including the beds (both futons- mattresses were very uncomfortable). The upstairs leaves much to be desired, its dark, damp and cold and we visited in August. The carpets and flooring in the bathroom are shameful. Shower leaks all over the floor as the shower screen needs repairing. Overall, a very low quality vibe once inside, very over priced, would not stay here again. We frequently visit the cotswold and have stayed in far superior properties for the same price.

Thank you for your feedback. We can only apologise that the property was not what you expected. We represent all our properties as accurately as possible, so that our holidaymakers can book what is right for them. If you are ever unsure about anything or would like further information about any of our properties in the future, please don't hesitate to get in touch. Downsides are that the beds are extremely uncomfortable, pillows horribly lumpy, vacuum cleaner didn't work and lack of cleaning products for worktops etc.

  • "Absolutely stunning cottage, in a fantastic village, with a brilliant central location which allowed us to visit local towns, go on lovely walks with our dogs."

I honestly couldn't recommend the cottage enough! My only other comment would be that the cottage advertises as dog friendly but doesn't have a garden/outside space - I know it isn't advertised as with an outside space but if somewhere is dog friendly then I assume there would be a outside space. Overall though, I was concerned before booking when looking at other reviews but I found they were completely unfounded and the cottage was fantastic, plenty big enough for 4, and all facilities worked well.

Thank you for this lovely review. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay at Barn End Cottage and hope the lack of garden didn't impact too much on your stay. Fortunately, there are plenty of walks locally! We would love to welcome you again. Best wishes Character Cottages Property Owner

Pricey for what you get - The fact that you are not allowed to arrive before 5pm (and pay for that day) and leave at 10am (with a long list of cleaning emailed by Sykes) on day of departure is rather ridiculous. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay.

This property has many issues. One of the important issues for other guests to understand is it is not suitable for one let alone two dogs. No outside space and a busy rat-tun with a bus passing outside! Secondly, the mattresses were awful, with saggy lumps. Finally, it is advertised to accommodate 5 whereas it barely accommodates two people. We felt very uncomfortable and would not recommend it.

Thank you for providing this feedback. We're so sorry to hear that you encountered some issues at the cottage. • "The cottage is perfectly located for walks and is in a fairly quiet spot."

However, bar the bit of gravel at the front, it lacks any outside space for sitting out, and there is nowhere secure where the dog can go for a wee. In terms of facilities the cottage is well appointed and, apart from the sofa, comfortable. It is starting to look a bit tired in some areas though, especially the upstairs bathroom that has a missing light fitting above the bath (and is consequently very dingy) and the toilet doesn’t flush properly. We also think that it’s priced far too high for what you get, and we’ve certainly stayed in better for much less. Overall though we would recommend, and we’d stay again if it were cheaper.

Thank you for our constructive comments, we are pleased to hear that you found the cottage well appointed. Our maintenance team will take a look into the light fitting and toilet and we thank you for raising this to our attention. With best wishes Character Cottages Property Owner

For tall people like us it was sometimes a challenge in the bathroom, but we did not mind at all. The cottage is very cosy and beautiful decorated. It is a perfect setting for long walks in the cotswolds and for a nice glass of beer with good food in the pub around the corner.

  • "A nice little cottage but not a comfortable one."

The sofa bed is good for a bed but it’s not suitable to relax on after a day out. The shower has a constant leak and drips, which if not collected leaks onto the bathroom floor. There are no instructions for the use of amenities so using the oven and hob is a guessing game as all temperatures are rubbed off and you don’t know which knob operates what, the hoover doesn’t work and you can only watch films on the NowTV if you have the PIN number which we didn’t have. So at times the stay here has been quite frustrating.

Thank you for providing your feedback and we appreciate you bringing these to our attention. The owner has recently had back to back bookings so was unable to address the matters raised but please be assured that these are now in hand and we hope this didn't impact on your stay too much. • "My husband and I have just returned home from a very disappointing mini-holiday."

The house we booked - Barn End Cottage - was not as you advertised. Here are the issues we had: - 1. The shower handle was broken and we were only able to have luke warm showers. We called you about it and someone visited on day two but no repair was made. We were simply told a new part had been ordered. 2. The shower height adjuster was stuck so you couldn’t change the position of the tiny shower-head. 3. The blinds in the living room were broken. 4. There were only three chairs at the dining table. 5. The television did not show terrestrial channels so we had no BBC, ITV or Channel 4 - only Now TV and catch-up programmes. 6. The batteries in one of the tv remotes were flat. (This was remedied on day two after we complained but the programming issue was not.) 7. There were no decent bath towels - only small ones which were well-used. 8. There was no light over the sink in the bathroom making shaving very tricky in a dimly-lit room with no outside windows. 9. The oven knob was worn so you couldn’t read what temperature it was set at. 10. The bed in the main bedroom was extremely uncomfortable. It was basically a solid spring-less base with a poor quality mattress and a sponge-like topper. 11. The bedding was cheap and worn. The supposedly white covers were greying and un-ironed. 12. The only sofa in the lounge is a sofa bed which may be comfortable to sleep on but is very uncomfortable to relax on. 13. The house instructions were totally inadequate. We didn’t know how to use:- a) the hob b) the coffee machine. c) or NOW tv. And we didn’t know what to do with: d) the rubbish (there was no sign of recycling). e) and the bedding at the end of our stay. 14. There is nothing on your website warning about low ceilings and there are no signs on the beams inside the house warning you to duck your head or take care. My husband, who is 6ft 2ins, cut his head walking into a beam downstairs. We would never have chosen the house if we had known of such hazards. 15. From the feedback on your website it is clear that several of these issues were raised by previous holidaymakers but were not addressed before we arrived. Finally, I would like to point out that you advertise this property as a four star cottage - unfortunately we did not get four star accommodation. It was not worth the money we paid and I hope you will recompense us. I look forward to hearing from you, especially as I sent this complaint to your customer services email (given to me by you) several days ago and have not had a response. Apparently you have a problem with that too and no-one received the email!

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback and we do appreciate you bringing all these matters to our attention. We can only apologise if this property wasn't up to our normal high standards - we understand your disappointment. The owner has had back to back bookings recently and was therefore unable to address the problems you mentioned. However, all these matters are now in hand so hope you will bear with us while our houskeeping team inspect the property. Property Owner

Could do with painting and a deep clean The blinds in the living room were broken, the dining chairs were broken, the backs came apart and they wobbled. There were cobwebs on the bedroom, the shower needs fixing as this is very hard to switch on. The main issue I has was that we booked for 5 people and this really wasn’t suitable for 5, there was a sofa bed which was lovely but no pillows or bedding for this and there were only 4 dining chairs with no other suitable chair to use so the 5 of us could not eat together.

There was quite a lot of dust behind the sofa but the rest of the cottage was very clean. The shower mechanism is very stiff and I was concerned to push it firmly in case it broke. There were no cooler instructions and the numbers on the knob are worn away so it took a while to get the right oven in and to guess what temperature it was set at. The wood burner was excellent and really added to the enjoyment of the stay. Would definitely come again.
