  • "We were pleasantly surprised when we opened the door to Burford Cottage because it was instantly obvious that it was clean and tidy (we've stayed in some dreadful places at times)."

There is everything that you could need for a week or two. I didn't cook there (I was on holiday too!) but if you did want to eat at the cottage there were plenty of pans and utensils. There is just one criticism - the settee is very uncomfortable for any length of time. I preferred to go to bed and either read or watch TV. I must say, the amount of hangers supplied is wonderful! I was able to hang up all the t-shirts, jumpers and trousers and there were still plenty left. It might seem a simple thing but oh so necessary. We had a wonderful week and the lovely cottage was the icing on the cake. Talking of which, there was a lovely chocolate cake and a bottle of milk waiting for us when we arrived. So thoughtful. Thank you for everything.

  • "Very well equipped throughout and clean."

The cake, milk, tea and coffee were a particularly nice start to our break. The setting is nice and the outside tables and chairs are a nice touch. It was unusually cold outside for summer and to provide heating was very generous in June. If you want helpful suggestions the chores at the end of our stay might be removed and given to the cleaners in view of the deadline for leaving and our packing. Overall a very nice place and with more facilities than we have experienced elsewhere.

  • "Burford cottage has all the makings of an ideal holiday destination however, we found that although on first arriving everything looked nice and clean it soon became apparent that there was a sweaty odour coming from all the bedding and the carpets to such an extent we had to buy Fabreze and carpet freshener to try and mask it."

Paint was peeling off the wall behind the TV due to rising Damp and the support in the dining chairs was virtually non existent to the point we had to sit on cushions, also there was a bad smell from the kitchen sink drain. The seal at the bottom of the shower screen was black with mould as was the sink overflow outlet. The hand towel ring by the sink was hanging by a thread and also part of the toilet flush button was missing. There were no pillow protectors on any of the pillows some of which were stained and smelly. We have used your company for a number of years and this is the first time we have been so dissatisfied with one of your properties that we have felt the need to make this complaint, in fact we were so disappointed we decided to return home a day early.

Hi I’m sorry you encountered problems at our cottage and didn’t enjoy your stay . Generally over the past 8 years we’ve had nothing but positive feedback. In response to your comments I have carried out the following , 1. Bought and fitted all new pillows and pillow case protectors as well as new mattress protectors . 2. Replaced the flush button , shower screen seal ,refitted the loose towel ring and cleaned /bleached the sink overflow & kitchen sink . 3. With regards to the possible damp odour I can only think it is either where possibly the bedding may have not been dried straight away after washing but I’m not sure so will check with the cleaning company . . Once I changed everything and the cleaners changed the bedding the smell seemed to disappear. I have though discovered a small damp patch on the main bedroom wall and after investigation it appears we have a wasps next in the eaves which I think is creating it . I’m wondering wether this is creating any odour as we’ve never had a problem before .(though I couldn’t smell anything ) I’m awaiting a call back from a pest control company to get it dealt with and booked a period of time out on the calendar to remove the nest once they are dead . The wasps are not inside the cottage though so there are no issues there. . 4. The small area of peeling paint behind the tv will be dealt with shortly . 5. We stay in the cottage quite often and I have to say don’t feel the dining room chairs are a problem but next time we’re there we will check them out and if necessary get replacements . Like I say we stay here a lot and love our little cottage and if you look back over the years we have had great feedback . Hopefully this is just a blip and we can continue providing a cosy home from home for guests to enjoy . Property Owner

A real home from home. Only downside for me was nowhere to walk along road by property as I like daily walks but having no pavement meant it was too dangerous. Nothing you can do about this, although a right of way along the field at the back would have been lovely,if you can make any agreement with neighbours?

Really important that this last week. The provision of two tables and chairs outside made it possible the out in shade at different times of the day. The only thing I would like to bring to your attention is the hdmi selection for the DVD player. We found we needed to select hdmi 4 for it to work. Once we'd got there everything was fine. • "We have used Sykes many times and had some great holidays, but Burford Cottage was one of the best properties yet."

We had everything we needed for a week away. (Children aged 1 and 2), right down to plastic crockery for the kids. We couldn’t fault a thing. The place was spotlessly clean and had all the little ‘extras’ which make a huge difference, such as plenty of tea towels, hand soap, cleaning products, dishwasher tablets -and a fully stocked tassimo machine. We contacted the owners via text a couple of times and they responded promptly and were really friendly and helpful. Location-wise it was great. We had a ‘free’ week by visiting 12 National trust properties - with the longest drive we had being 40 minutes and the closest about 5 minutes - and having our usual weekly Ocado shop delivered on the first day. So lots of picnics for lunches. We took an extra high chair (there is one there). We didn’t need to take a travel cot, as there is one there- but we did need to take our own bedding for this. Out of courtesy we took a piece of plastic to protect the carpet during mealtimes - which was lucky as the dining table is on carpet. There isn’t a stair gate but the stairs twist after the first 3 at the top. We took a plug in night light which was handy for the landing area during the night - and advisable if you have little ones, as it’s quite dark once all the main lights are off. The cottage is off the main road on a well-kept development. There were gardeners working there during the week, mowing the grass etc. The parking space for the cottage is at the back, a short walk from the property, but there is space to load and unload closer by. It was so good we’ll probably book again.

The place was immaculate and well maintained. The décor was fresh and tasteful. Everything from to furnishings to appliances were like new. The facilities from a smart tv to fast broadband were useful and welcome. The rooms were a good size and the kitchen appliances were in abundance. A lovely quiet rural location, but conveniently close to the centre of town and even closer to a large Waitrose store making it an ideal location with plenty of parking. Communications was good with the owners who provided small, but nice, touches like a pint of milk in the fridge, tea, coffee and biscuits. A home from home. Gaining access (checking in) was more than easy and very convenient. Highly recommended.
