"Vera Coby house."
-
"Everything was lovely, but the bathroom needs some attention, the skirting at the end of the bath and toilet is badly fitted and has what appears to be black mould behind it."
The floor tiles are loose and move when you stand on them and the shower head cannot be adjusted and points towards the wall

"Another lovely week spent at Elder Cottage ."
Perfectly positioned for us in Mickleton to visit our favourite places . Great food at The King’s Arms and The Butchers Arms, both in the village . Cottage cosy and quiet - perfect , booked already for next year !
-
"Stayed here many times and always enjoy our stay."
We had a problem with the toilet which was sorted out by the owner promptly and efficiently.Looking forward to our next visit.
-
"The welcome pack was very good and appreciated."
Elder Cottage is convenient to tour the Cotswolds. As far as the cottage was concerned the garden needed attention and we did leave a message to the owner about a few issues we had. We feel as an older couple we would have preferred a walk in shower.
-
"The house was very clean and it had everything you need for your stay."
I loved the books it had and all the information provided about things to do in the area, places to eat, etc. The patio/garden was wonderful. Everything was fantastic except for the mattress. It was quite uncomfortable. I think it should be changed.
-
"There was an unpleasant smell in the cottage, referred to by previous guests in the comments book."
Something to do with the sewers perhaps. Otherwise we had a pleasant stay.
-
"Lovely cottage, well furnished and maintained."
The "welcome pack" of milk, butter, wine and biscuits was very welcome after our journey. The parking space is a bit of a tight turn - OK for a standard saloon car, but could be tricky for anything larger.
-
"Overall, a wonderful little cottage."
Very comfortable and well equipped. However, the bathroom had a damp and musty odour and smelt of drains (commented on by previous visitors). There is probably a leak behind the toilet that needs fixing. Aslo, several lamps did not work because the bulbs were dead and there were no spares available.
-
"Cottage situated in a lovely village with pub across the road with a large beer garden, lovely traditional butcher which we bought provisions."
Walking distance of National Trust Hidcote gardens, so worth having membership. The famous Pudding Club is just down the road. Cottage is in need of refurbishment the bed is tired, old fashioned bedroom, floor tiles in bathroom badly need regrouting, carpet needs to be changed and have flooring and carpet stair carpets, shower needs replacing, dishwasher well not great we were not expecting a table top one need a proper dishwasher not much room but maybe ditch the freezer as deliveries can be made from supermarkets, Washing machine good so you go home with no laundry. It could be so much better as in such a lovely Cotswold village, the garden in April was OK , but the old garden furniture not great and needs replacing. The cheap plastic air freshners are not needed and cheapen the place please get rid and too many old paperbacks make the place look like a charity shop!. The welcome pack was nice. Guest book ran out so assume owners not reading the comments. Parking is good for one car as village will be busy in summer. Would we go back yes if it was refurbished. It was reasonable priced and in second week of Easter school holidays it was ideal for us, so a bit of TLC and this would be perfect.

"We have just stayed at Elder Cottage for a short break."
It is a most comfortable cottage with excellent facilities. The layout is very good, parking is very convenient and the welcome pack is very generous. We will most probably stay there again when visiting the Cotswolds'.
-
"Cosy, well equipped cottage, close to shops and pub."
Great place to explore the Cotswolds.
-
"We had a very enjoyable week at Elder Cottage- it was very cosy and homely ."
Well located to visit Broadway and Chipping Campden . We will look forward to staying again next year . Nigel & Tina
-
"Great holiday in lovely cottage."
The village and surrounding areas are great for anyone who loves the countryside, with lots of cosy pubs and brilliant walks.
-
"The cottage was very clean and inviting."
The garden was wonderful. We had a long 4 week stay and was never uncomfortable and appreciated the fresh laundry every week. Would definitely stay again!
-
"Security on the door and garden gate could be better."
We felt the property wasn't secure enough. Bathroom maybe could do without the bath and a walk in shower would have been nicer as having rheumatoid arthritis made it difficult to climb into for a shower.I will be aware of this next time I book a sykes cottage. The welcome pack was very generous and appreciated.
-
"Dripping tap in kitchen sprained my wrist while trying to turn off."
Reported to Sykes but nothing done! Stained carpet in hall way. Settee was uncomfortable. Not enough cupboard space for groceries . Very noisy outside traffic .
-
"We had a wonderful long weekend at the cottage."
It was very cosy and had everything we needed for the stay, and the welcome basket was a lovely unexpected surprise! Loved sitting in the beautiful garden in the sunshine and a great base for exploring the Cotswolds. Would definitely recommend this lovely cottage.
-
"Fantastic cottage in a great location."
Lovely touch with the welcome pack it was much appreciated. Looking forward to stay again.
-
"ELDER COTTAGE IS IN A GOOD LOCATION FOR VISITING THE COTSWOLDS, QUIET AND COMFORTABLE WITH A SMALL PARKING SPACE TO THE SIDE."
UNFORTUNATELY ON ARRIVAL THE COTTAGE WAS VERY COLD AS THE HEATING WASN'T ON.THE KITCHEN IS IN NEED OF MODERNISATION AND THE TAPS WERE VERY HARD TO TURN OFF, ALSO THERE ARE ONLY TWO VERY WORN DINNER PLATES SO SUBSEQUENTLY CONSTANTLY WASHING THEM AFTER EACH MEAL. ALSO THE BATH MAT WAS BADLY PERISHED. THIS DIDN'T PREVENT US FROM HAVING AN ENJOYABLE WEEKS HOLIDAY IN WHAT IS A VERY NICE HOLIDAY COTTAGE.
-
"Lovely little cottage and courtyard in nice quiet village, with excellent pub across the road."
The map provided was very useful for local walks. Great centre for walking, sightseeing and theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon.
-
"Lounge, bathroom, bedroom, garden lovely, all very clean."
But the kitchen - the first room you enter, smelt musty and was extremely old, very much in need of replacement. Hand varnished wooden units! Also the central heating boiler in a cupboard in the bedroom - whilst this may be within the law it is always not to be recommended. Picture book cottage with welcome pack, could be beautiful but needs investment.
-
"The taps In The kitchen were difficult to turn completely off they dripped constantly."
We had no other problems apart from the central heating didn’t appear to work and we couldn’t find a number for the owner, this however turned out to be our fault because we never lifted the welcome pack up and all the information was on a letter below it, so can’t really fault the owner for that. On the plus side nice cosy cottage for two people in a delightful location and convenient for visiting the Cotswolds would stay again.
-
"We had an excellent stay in Elder Cottage."
The house was warm, welcoming and festive. Thank You for our Christmas goodies, what a pleasant surprise, Thank You. Everything in the cottage is considered and what you need for a comfortable stay was catered for. The house is Charming and pristine. It is in a beautiful setting. Everything you need is in the village if you fancy a lazy relaxing day chilling.
-
"Really enjoyed this cosy cottage"
-
"The property was comfortable and clean with a lovely welcome pack."
We really enjoyed our time there.
-
"All in all an amazing stay."
Elder cottage is clean and warm. However the bedding was incredibly thick for this time of year, and the bedroom very warm. The sofa is not the comfiest, which is fine if you don’t intend to sit on it for long but we like to sit and watch a film of an evening. Also the parking sign was covered by a length of fencing so we were parked in the wrong place for two days until a neighbour left us a rude note telling us to move our car.
-
"We had an issue with the heating not working notified the owner on two occasions but nobody came to take a look at it, luckily it wasn’t too cold but obviously that’s not the point."
Other than that great location friendly locals and two lovely pubs.
-
"Very clean, cosy and well equipped for a good holiday and highly recommended,."
-
"Mickleton is a good base as convenient for the main tourist areas without being busy."
The shops were fine for every day needs and the pub opposite the cottage was excellent. Elder Cottage was very cosy and always warm. Unfortunately the weather was not good enough to enjoy the delightful patio garden. The BT wifi was rather patchy and slow, so not to be relied upon.
-
"We have stayed in this cottage many times."
The very first impression we had this year was the excellent cleanliness throughout. Very little has changed over the years and that is all to the good. Visitors seem to come back over and over again. There was a generous welcome hamper, as usual. As we get older, we find the steep staircase more difficult to negotiate - both up and down and, coming down, there is nothing immediately to hold onto until you reach the bannister. A little bit of upgrade / maintenance would greatly improve the bathroom. Many of the floor ceramic tiles are completely without grout on the joints. The shower head droops, whatever you do to it. The tiny inbuilt lights on the wall mirror are totally useless. But, this is a great cottage.
-
"Lovely cottage in a great village location with a secluded sunny garden."
Spotlessly clean and well equipped with added kitchen supplies that were much appreciated. Thanks for a great stay.
-
"This is a lovely, compact cottage perfect for a couple."
It is comfortable with a nice courtyard garden to relax in if the weather is good and it certainly was the week we stayed. Mickleton is an ideal village as a base for sightseeing in the Cotswolds, Stratford upon Avon or further afield. The Kings Head pub does great food and is literally across the road. Would recommend staying here.
-
"Beautifully presented cosy cottage, well equipped and comfortable."
Much appreciated welcome pack, milk, butter, bread, orange juice, cake and wine! Nice pubs, The King's Arms across the road was lovely with very welcoming staff but booking essential if you want dinner, which was excellent BTW. Another pub and well stocked shop a couple of minutes walk away. Nearby Chipping Campden is a pretty typical cotswold town to walk around, Hidcote, a few minutes away is lovely also Charlecote Park near Stratford upon Avon worth a visit too. Unfortunately we couldn't walk out as the ground is too boggy after recent rains but in dryer weather there are lovely walks in the area.
-
"Wonderful time in an area of the country we hadn't visited properly before."
The cottage was well located, easy to find and just what we needed for our holiday. The generous supply of goodies left by the owner was really appreciated, although not all needed. Access was easy and we didn't need to contact the owner at all to sort out any problems as everything worked so well. We would certainly consider booking Elder cottage again if we came back to the Cotswolds.
-
"The cottage was just what we wanted; warm, fully equipped and an ideal base for exploring the northern Cotswolds."
We appreciated the nice extras left for us. Would definitely stay again.
-
"This was my first cottage holiday and it exceeded my expectations."
The cottage was lovely and clean and very well presented. It made me feel very welcome. I will definitely look into another cottage in the future and I will highly recommend your company to friends and colleagues. Thank you for a lovely week and a memorable experience. Looking forward to the next one!
-
"Your thoughtfulness and attention to detail in considering your incoming guests."
We had a great stay, wish it could have been longer. Have to rectify that again. Thanks Tony and Jane
-
"The outside door mat entrance is a trip hazard leading to a possible incident."
Also the stairs would not be suitable for elderly or someone with leg & joint problems as they were found to be rather steep.
-
"Still not fixed toilet cistern running all the time ."
This was reported to owner in first few days. He said that he knew already yet nothing done in two weeks we were there. Would have liked to have seen visitor book as we have always seen in our other holidays it helps if you have any advice on places of interest and where to recommend to eat .
-
"This was a clean and comfortable cottage for 2 in a good area for the Cotswolds."
However, previous guests had commented about problems with the toilet that are documented on your website and this had not been dealt with adequately by the time we stayed in mid June. The cistern was continuing leaking and the flusher worked erratically. If you are paying over £500 for a week I expect this sort of problem to be sorted - especially when it was already known. Added to that there were a few minor issues - no lid on bin in the kitchen, no bin in the bathroom, cracked cup not removed. Nothing to get too excited about but it shows a lack of attention to detail. None of this spoiled our week but having booked with Sykes several times I can't honestly say this met with expectations.
-
"The cottage and garden were delightful."
The press button on the toilet cistern was missing: no problem for us, but might have been for some. The outside rubbish bin was full: should have been emptied - a minor inconvenience. Bathroom on the ground floor could be a problem during the night for the elderly - us included - but we managed. All in all - very enjoyable!
-
"A very well equipped small cottage in an excellent location."
Mickleton has good facilities and is close to several places of interest. Good walks within easy reach. David, the owner, was quickly responsive when a problem occurred. He had also provided a very good welcome pack.
-
"When we arrived there was no stairgate despite the fact we requested one and received confirmation from Sykes Cottages that the owner had confirmed there would be one there."
However it was fine and our Dog didn't go upstairs. The property was really nice and excellent location. We had problems flushing the toilet as the flusher kept sticking and constantly running. I telephoned the owner who advised that he was aware of the problem and all we had to do was lift the cistern lid which eased the problem and identified the flusher was broke and had been "bodged" On our final night I was disturbed at 3 am by what sounded like water dripping on inspection this was the case and water was dripping through the light fitting in the hallway. I attempted to stop this by turning off water supply and looking for isolation valves. Eventually I telephoned the owner at around 3-30 am who advised me the problem had recently occurred and the boiler had to be turned off. There was no apology which made me feel like i was intruding at an early but I was trying to preserve his property The drip eventually stopped after I left the hot tap in the kitchen at a trickle. Next morning as there was no hot water we packed up and left to get home When I arrived home I noticed I had forgotten some items of clothing in the bedroom so I emailed the cottage but received no reply then telephoned the owner to ascertain what to do. He advised the cleaner would find it and he would be in touch. I had to ring again and he confirmed it had been found and the cleaner would post it to me if I provided an address which I did. I have rung him again asking if it had been sent and he couldn't confirm if the cleaner had. I have since texted and rung him leaving a voicemail expressing my dissatisfaction. It will be 4 weeks tomorrow ( 3rd May) since our stay and still have received my items. I feel the process is very one sided in terms of leaving credit card details etc but this is clearly unacceptable and would welcome input from the agent Sykes Cottages of how I can get my items back
-
"An ideal small cottage located in the centre of the picturesque Cotswold village."
Within easy reach of all the local attractions, with a great restaurant and pub within a short walking distance. We can thoroughly recommend.
-
"It was a perfect little cottage for two people."
Very comfy and situated in a very convenient location. We would love to go back again at some time in the future.
-
"The property is centrally Positioned to access the Cotswolds together with Stratford Evesham and Worcester, Mickleton itself houses a very nice village general store ( great local made cakes) and good walks ."
The property feels cottage like nice size bedroom with a very comfortable bed , living rooms open up to a loverly garden , all the utensils was catered for the welcome pack was a nice touch. Jo
-
"There was a very generous welcome pack including bread, milk, cake, biscuits, wine and juice, which we were not expecting so we had brought lots of things that weren't needed, maybe future guests should be informed?"
The house was warm on arrival and a few lights left on to welcome us. Plenty of places to eat within walking distance and places to visit within 30 minutes drive.
-
"Zeer proper en gezellig huisje!"
Alles wat je nodig hebt is aanwezig en functioneert. Het is klein: enkel geschikt voor 2 volwassenen + eventueel een baby (dan moet je babystoel, bedje, enz... zelf meebrengen) Dit is zeker een cottage om aan te raden voor 2 volwassen die van rust en gezelligheid houden!
-
"Absolutely brilliant place to go"
-
"Pretty cottage in a lovely location."
Kings Arms pub close by served good food at reasonable prices. Mickleton is a typical Cotswold location but of the busy tourist circuit. Local village stores well stocked for all basic needs. Dog walking paths at hand. Only grouse was the absence of a toilet brush !
-
"Parking for a small car only, proplem getting out, could do with in BQ,"
-
"As well as tea and coffee, David the owner left bread, biscuits, a Victoria sponge, orange juice and a bottle of wine for us in the cottage."
This was more than we expected.
-
"Please feel free to pass on to the owner."
We much appreciated the welcome gifts of butter, milk, orange juice, cake(!) and biscuits - very thoughtful. The house was small, but perfectly formed, comfortable and generally well equipped. Our only suggestion for extras would be a drying up cloth for washing up, and a scouring pad for pans. The comprehensive cottage info pack was very helpful - the only thing missing was the collection arrangements for the bins. Oh - and some sunshine!
-
