The kitchen had every facility you could think of, the lounge very comfortable and the beds great too. Just cannot recommend this property enough. Any problems? The virgin box remote had gone 'walkies' so had to change channels by bending down if you wanted HD?

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at Sunnyside Cottage. It's wonderful to hear how much you enjoyed your stay at the cottage, it's pretty special. We hope to welcome you back again in the future. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner

  • "The Owners of the cottage have tastefully restored and furnished the property to high standard."

It was extremely clean and everything worked as described. The low ceilings could be a problem for the tallest people I’m 6 foot and hit my head but was well aware of it after I laughed. Parking was adequate for regular size vehicle. The village is idealistic country village full of charm and patina.

  • "Absolutely loved our stay at Sykes Cottage."

It was delightfully charming, very well organized and surprisingly spacious, once we got inside. Beware the ceiling height though! My husband is 6’ 3” and I’m 5’ 3”. While I sailed through doorways, he had to duck and had to be extra careful, standing up in the tv room.

  • "We stayed here for a week, we found the road noise to be extremely loud and constant, very close to the cottage, also the bed upstairs is very tilted and off to one side, we appreciate the cottage is old but there is no reason for the extreme incline of the bed, it isn’t a slight incline it’s very obvious."

We had to move down to another room and not sleep in what we believed was the master, The kitchen worktops are extremely sticky, anything that touches them stuck, this was very unsettling regarding the hygiene side of things, also the window sills had muck and dust on them and also a lot of cobwebs that were not to do with with cottage age! On opening the windows there was an awful lot of dead insects and general dirt . Overall if these issues were addressed the cottage is ok but as it was self catering the condition of the worktop forced us to eat out more than we wanted to as it so unhygienic. The cottage was well equipped but we were unable to utilise it due to the worktop condition.

Many thanks for your feedback. We are very sorry to hear about these issues, however, in all our properties there is a welcome folder containing telephone numbers in case of any issues during guests' stay so that we may fix anything which is not right. Unfortunately, we have not been notified by yourselves and has therefore been unable to rectify the matters mentioned. Our maintenance has since attended and were unable to fund fault with the bed and the dining table. The finish on the kitchen work surface does have a slight sticky residue caused by the oil used but is not down to lack of cleanliness as all surfaces are cleaned with Covid resistant approved products. The property is set back around 10 meters from the road which is not a busy road, however, some level of noise is to be expected from any road. As from the photos and description on our website, it is evident that this is an old cottage which comes with the usual quirks of low beams, uneven floors and smaller rooms. A final check was carried out at the property 48 hours before your arrival and I can only apologise for any cobwebs or insects which might have occurred after that. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was incredibly tiny."

While the listing does mention the low ceiling for the lounge, it should have been a top health warning as we did have someone that was too tall for that space. I’m shocked that it wouldn’t be highlighted and that no one when I called told us that this would be the case before we booked. In addition, the kitchen was so narrow that only one person could be there at a time to cook and prepare food. The cottage is just so small the only good part is the conservatory with a well lit dining room. I will not be booking again and would expect compensation for such a bad experience (especially given we paid a significant amount for the cottage).

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your recent stay at Sunnyside Cottage. I'm sorry that you found the low ceilings an issue, we do state on the website that guest over 6ft will find it low. It's a very old cottage and with this style home, you will have low ceilings. With regards to the kitchen, yes it's a narrow kitchen, but the pictures do show this and we haven't had any other guests comment on this. Can i suggest in future that you ask all these questions before booking, we would of been more than happy to give you the information on size of rooms and ceiling height before you booked. The kitchen had everything we wanted (even tongs which are often missing!) and the local village has butchers, bakers and a co-op for anything else. The village also has a number of pubs, a really good Chinese takeaway and even a fish and chip van that comes by on a Monday evening. The location is ideal for the Cotswolds as it only took us 20-40 mins to get to every place we wanted to go. The cottage was very quiet and the quality beds and bedding meant excellent nights sleep for all. Will be looking to book again the next time we want to explore the wonderful Cotswolds.

  • "I cannot say enough about Sunnyside Cottage."

! My husband and I just spent a glorious week at this very charming, very comfortable cottage in the beautiful little town of Bampton. Conveniently located in the heart of The Cotswolds, Bampton is a small almost untouched village. Because of its originality and period charm, it has been used throughout the filming as downtown ‘Downton’ in the hit series Downton Abbey. St. Mary’s church, Mrs. Crowley’s house, the library, it’s all there, A wonderful map called the Downton Mile has been created for visitors. It takes you on a wonderful walking tour of Bampton where there is so much to see beyond DA in this wonderful town brimming with history. A short walk from Sunnyside Cottage and you are in the heart of Bampton This treasure of a house is more than 200 years old. However, it has been recently renovated with an updated well stocked kitchen, new bathrooms and more. My husband and I were in the upstairs master bedroom with a very large brand new attached bath with a large roomy shower. Tons of closet space. Very comfortable king size bed. We didn’t use it but there is also a lovely downstairs king size bedroom also with its own very nice bathroom. The entire house has been professionally redecorated, top to bottom with beautiful period furnishings as well as new comfortable seating and carpeting. Easy to use fireplace that was efficient and started up easily. We were there in early May so we were lucky enough to experience an explosion of blooms and greenery in the perfectly maintained lush garden. A very thorough large binder has been made for guests filled with maps of surrounding towns, menus of local restaurants, brochures of various attractions and more will more than meet the need of any visitor regardless of their interests. My only regret is that we had to inevitably leave! We do hope to return here someday as there is much we would like see that we couldn’t fit in this trip but we will feel at home and happy returning to Sunnyside Cottage and The beloved town of Bampton.

About the location

BAMPTON, OXFORDSHIRE

Witney 4 miles; Burford 8 miles and Oxford 19 miles.

The thriving village of Bampton lies in the Thames Valley in the southern Cotswolds, amidst beautiful Oxfordshire countryside. Bampton is one of the oldest villages in England boasting a village shop, Post Office, butcher, and traditional pubs serving good food and real ales, all set around a pretty market square a hundred yards from the cottage. Ancient customs can still be experienced with the regular morris dancing festivities, which have been enjoyed for over 600 years. Just four miles away is the riverside town of Witney, which offers many attractions including a weekly market dating back to the Middle Ages, an 18th century town hall, and Wychwood Brewery. Burford is possibly one of the most famous of the Cotswolds' locations. With its medieval bridge, old stone houses and attractive Tudor and Georgian frontages, Burford is justifiably one of the most picturesque towns in England. Often referred to as the 'Gateway to the Cotswolds', the town was originally a fortified Anglo-Saxon ford to be an important regional crossroads and wealthy wool town. With little changing over the centuries. Burford is now very popular with visitors, both for its beauty and history but also for it's shopping and antiques, and for the wide variety of places to eat, with restaurants, pubs and teashops. Oxford, the oldest university city in England, boasts interesting Botanical Gardens, museums and libraries, and plays host to many festivals and markets throughout the year. Enjoy a punt on the River Thames or take a boat trip on the River Cherwell. The ancestral home of Winston Churchill and the World Heritage Site of Blenheim Palace is just a short drive away, where many lovely walks can be enjoyed around the landscaped parkland. With so much nearby, Bampton provides a wonderful holiday destination.
