  • "Our Stay at this beautiful little cottage for me and my 2 doggies was just great."

The garden is a great size for 2 energetic cocker spaniels to run freely and secure. Would be good to put a peeler in the kitchen draw of utensils and a right hand glove for log burner but other wise all great & hope to return again some day.

  • "Firstly, it was a lovely break away with our dog for our 4 year anniversary."

The cottage is well located with a local pub and a close walk to Burford town being only 5-10 minutes away. We enjoyed mostly how quiet and rural this property was as this cottage gave off a homely countryside vibe and just screams “Cotswolds” which is exactly what we were looking for. I rated the cleanliness above because of the following we come across during our stay: 1) Large and small shower head are covered in hard water stains and specks of mold. 2) The shower screen seal is mouldy. 3) The Kettle was quite a large concern for us from the beginning so we actually ended up purchasing a kettle from the nearest B&M to use during our stay. Starting with the outer appearance with the paint chipping and limescale covering the handle. Upon opening the kettle, there was further limescale. 4) The Toaster (which we didn’t end up using for this reason) had a fair amount of bread crumbs in the bottom as I am coeliac this is too big of a risk. 5) We found various cobwebs around the property. I rated the comfort above because of our personal preferences below: 1) The Sofa 2) Memory foam mattresses Overall, we would recommend but would make people aware of which I have highlighted above as considering the price I would expect the cleanliness to reflect this which saddened us more than anything else due to it being such a beautiful cottage with so much potential. In regard to the facilities, we found these very convenient due to there being a washer/dryer and a dishwasher available.

  • "Great little cottage, very handy for Oxford and The Cotswolds."

Only a short walk into Burford for the shops, pubs and tearooms. The Carpenters Arms is even closer, open all day every day except Monday, serves good beer and tasty food. The cottage is peaceful, cosy, very well equipped, and clean. Garden was fully enclosed and great for the dogs and for sitting out in. The double bed was very soft, ok for one person but can see why it might be less comfy for two (see other reviews) our kingsize was very comfy. We really enjoyed our week at Little Owl Barn and would definitely recommend it to friends and family. Hope to return some day.

We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your stay and all that is has to offer. It sounds like you had a great time! We hope we can welcome you back again soon Kind Regards, Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage with a beautiful garden and views."

We had a lovely time. Close to Burford high street with lots of nice walks and pubs. The butchers on the high street is great, and we had a wonderful meal at the Carpenters Arms. The only downside of the stay was the mattress in the bedroom furthest from the bathroom, it is terrible. We had an awful night sleep on it. Luckily we had the other room we could use. But if you have 4 people staying it would be a nightmare.

Thank you for feedback regarding your recent stay. It sounds like you had a lovely time exploring what the local area had to offer. We hope we can welcome you back to the area again soon, there is so much to explore! Kind Regards, Manor Cottages. Property Owner

  • "Sweet little cottage with good quality linen and furniture but unfortunately, the most uncomfortable bed."

Really impossible to get a night's sleep on it. If you're after peace and quiet this won't be the best place for you. The cottage is mid-terrace. The next door neighbours who live there, like their music loud and late, with their doors and windows open. Other than that, a good base for seeing the Cotswolds.

Thank you for your feedback and the bed has been replaced and upgraded for better comfort. We are in a residential neighbourhood and neighbours will occasionally have guests but this is incredibly rare, overall this is a very quiet lane indeed. Property Owner

It's lovely in the late afternoon and evening, when the sun is out. But some form of shade would be even better.

  • "Lovely cottage and almost everything perfect."

We had a couple of issues with the kitchen lights and the double bed. These were resolved quickly by a lovely maintenance man. I would suggest you replace the double bed. We had a great week the weather was very hot and could have done with a garden parasol to fully enjoy the beautiful garden.

  • "This is a pretty little cottage in a good location."

However it was too small for us with two active young children (4 years and 18 months). A couple of examples: there isn't room in the sitting area for a play mat, in the twin room the beds only just fit inside so you can't move them to put pillows on the floor in case of a kid rolling out of bed and there is only a cube fridge that doesn't fit a full family shop. The opening words of the housebook are 'welcome to our cosy little cottage'. That is totally accurate and it's a pity language like that wasn't included in the online listing (at least when we booked). I don't want to badmouth the property as it is clean, nicely finished and would be lovely for adults who intended to walk and eat out at pubs, or maybe with older teenage children. But it wasn't suitable for us and it's a shame the listing didn't make the compact nature of the property clearer.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that you were disappointed by the size of the cottage. We have double checked our photos on the website and can see that the rooms are compact. We do our best to represent our properties using plenty of photos. We hope you enjoyed exploring the local area. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "Little Owl Barn was in a lovely, quiet location, looking out over fields."

It worked well for 3 adults , a toddler and a dog, although the white goods were just at the right height for the toddler! The garden was very dog and toddler proof however. The cottage was really well equipped and all the basics ( tea, washing up liquid etc) were provided. Thank you for that. Everything was very clean and when I asked for a warmer duvet it was quickly replaced. Another loo would have made it perfect. We really enjoyed our stay.

We're delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Little Owl Barn. Sadly there is not space for a second loo, however we are pleased to hear that you found the cottage had everything for your family's needs. We look forward to welcoming you back. Best wishes, Manor Cottages. Property Owner

  • "The property was warm, clean and comfortable."

We enjoyed our stay. A serving spoon for food is needed. Also, there was no caddy in the kitchen for collecting food waste, only a liner bag, which doesn’t work well. There were no recycling bags provided.

We are glad you were comfortable in Little Owl Barn. Thank you for your comments, which will be passed onto our housekeeping team. We hope these didn't detract from your stay. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "The cottage is lovely."

Unfortunately our stay was really spoilt by the double bed being so awful. There was no point on the bed that was flat, everywhere sloped to the middle. We, like the previous guests ended up in the single beds. If there had been more than 2 of us we would have ended up on the floor. When you pay so much for a weekend away the least you expect is a bed you can sleep in. A couple of other niggles, one of the sharp knives has the tip broken off and was dirty, and the phone number in the folder for the Carpenter's Arms is wrong.

Thank you for your feedback and we're sorry to hear that you encountered an issue with the double bed. Maintenance have been made aware and this will be addressed as soon as possible. Thank you for bringing the other matters to our attention. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

The cottage has a lovely outlook over the countryside and is just right for up to four people. The location is ideal for exploring the Cotswold and day tripping to historic sites and towns. Burford is a short drive, or half an hour walk (if you are not in a rush) which has all the amenities that you need for a great break or a holiday.. We stayed for just over a week and will be back when we next visit the Uk.

The cottage is comfortably furnished, we had a very relaxing stay the only comment we would make, is a small thing but was annoying. The kitchen is somewhat scantily equipped; 5 mugs and 4 of each type of cutlery. this is not enough for a cottage that sleeps 4, unless you put on a half full dishwasher on after every meal. this would, we think be a cheap fix. we would consider retuning when visiting the Cotswolds. kind regards Dominic and Hadaya

Of course you are welcome to publish but of course you wont! Oh and requested arrival time of 6pm unreasonable particularly when property had not been cleaned properly. Had assumed later arrival time was to allow more time for cleaning

Dear Mrs Hurran, I am so very sorry to hear of the disappointment you experienced due to the poor level of cleanliness at the property. Of course, the issues you came across are completely unacceptable and the housekeeper has been forwarded your comments in order to ensure this does not happen to any future guests. With regard to the kitchen equipment, you're right - that is certainly not sufficient cutlery for four and the owner has been contacted in order to get some more over to the property. We're happy we were able to help you from our office here in Burford. The 6PM check-in time is indeed to accommodate extra cleaning time due to Covid-19. It is clear that the time was not utilised wisely and we apologise for the inconvenience this must have caused. We really appreciate you bringing all of these points to our attention as we are now able to rectify the issues for future guests. We hope you had a wonderful break and would love to welcome you back to the Cotswolds again in the future. Property Owner

The property

Little Owl Barn, with a name like this you'd expect something that is cute and eye-catching.

Thankfully it is both, in spades, perfect for Cotswolds holiday in a truly top-notch location.

Tucked down a lane, behind a delightful cottage garden, this sweet, homely holiday cottage is a true gem, carved from a once enormous barn into a collection of quality homes.

Pleasingly, one of them is now a holiday home for us all to enjoy and it has very recently undergone a "makeover" which has transformed the cottage and light floods into the barn rooms making sure that even though it is exceptionally cosy, it is not dark or unwelcoming - quite the opposite.

The views are superb, and this coupled with the sound of nothing but birdsong and the occasional tractor ensures this is a true Cotswolds experience.

Kids, of course, can run free in the enclosed garden while you enjoy a seat and relax if you wish you could all stroll down to Burford in about 10 mins for a treat in Huffkins Cafe (maybe a famous Lardy Cake....?!) Inside, the house has been furnished with style which adds to its attractive appeal upstairs are two bedroooms both of which are simple yet smart.

We absolutely love this barn, as will you, - there is nothing not to like!

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £150.

About the location

Burford

Burford is possibly one of, if not THE most famous of the Cotswolds' locations. With its medieval bridge, old stone houses and attractive Tudor and Georgian frontages, Burford is justifiably one of the most picturesque towns in England. Often referred to as the 'Gateway to the Cotswolds', the town was originally a fortified Anglo-Saxon ford which later grew to be an important regional crossroads and wealthy wool town. Located mid way between Oxford and Cheltenham (25 mins each away) it is a little haven of history and beauty that many come to fall in love with when they visit.

The 16th century Tolsey building, once the meeting place for medieval merchants, now houses The Tolsey Museum, a delightful local museum illustrating the town's social and industrial past. The church is stunning, a real gem architecturally with many interesting memorials charting some of Burford's great families. There is also the signature, on the baptisimal font, of Antony Sedley, one of the Levellers besieged in the church in 1649 - three of the ringleaders were executed by Oliver Cromwell's men in the churchyard. History awaits!

With little changing over the centuries, Burford is now very popular with visitors, both for its beauty and history but also for its shopping and antiques, and for the wide variety of places to eat, with restaurants, pubs and teashops. It is an ideal base for visiting The Cotswolds area as it is within easy driving distance of popular attractions such as Blenheim Palace, Sudley Castle, Warwick Castle and several National Trust Houses and Gardens. Bourton on the Water, Bibury, Cirencester and Stow on the Wold are all with 25 minutes from the property.

Please Note: This property requires a Good House Keeping Bond of £100 This amount is automatically shadowed when the booking is made.
