• "Fantastic little cottage with everything you need - like home from home."

  The only negatives are parking as hard to get a space and the mattresses need updating as really uncomfortable. Stains on sofas (most probably due to lack of respect of other people’s stuff. If you spilt anything you would at least clean or clear it up and not leave it to the hosts). Bring your mosy spray as we got bitten quite a lot. Lots of midges flying around. Kindle enough for two days so be prepared to buy your own after that. Fire place is amazing! Thanks to Sam & Jamie for the delicious lemon drizzle cake left for us and the milk so we could have a pot of tea with it. Thanks for a great stay. Would 100% recommend.

• "Generally we found Chippy Cottage very nice, cosy and clean, however we felt that it needs updating and modernising."

  For a property that sleeps up to 6 people having only one bathroom was a bit of a nuisance, having another shower room /toilet maybe downstairs would be better. The TV in the bedroom at the top of the property didn’t work and the stairs were dangerous with no anti slip carpeting/flooring Also the carpet in the double bedroom on the 1st floor was curled up and we tripped over it several times. One of single beds legs (nearest window) in the twin room was faulty and needs replacing. If it was modernised but still keeping the character of the this beautiful cottage it would be the perfect

  Hi Kim - we’re glad you found our cottage “very nice, cosy and clean.” We appreciate your views on an extra bathroom, but unfortunately the 400yr old age of the cottage doesn’t allow us to add one. We ensure the photos and description accurately reflect the space offered by Chippy Cottage to our guests. We will have a look at the rug you mentioned that was curled, and the guest bed. Unfortunately we don’t always get notified if something has been broken by a previous guest. Regarding the stairs, we disagree they are dangerous and do make a point of saying in our description they are steeper than a typical modern stair case. We carefully balance the amazing age of the property and lovely charm it offers with modern capabilities. • "Cleanliness and maintenance are an issue and I see from previous reviews this has been an issue all year."

  This cottage shouldn't be advertised with 5* rating on Sykes until these issues are fixed. If logs aren't provided that should also be removed from the listing.

  Hi Tamara - The previous post during the same month of your visit mentions our cottage is “very clean” however we do appreciate this may not have been to your personal standard. On other booking portals this is also reflected with 4.3/5 and 4.77/5 overall star ratings and 8.9/10 for cleanliness specifically on another site. we are proud of our guest ratings especially as they are based off other people’s visits rather than our own chosen star rating. We are however sorry that we missed leaving a sustainable log starter pack for your stay. This should have been done, and if we had known we would have rectified for you. Apologies. Regarding maintenance we do actively ensure problems are resolved between guest visits, and with a 400yr old cottage there is always something that needs doing. The character of this cottage, shown in the photos, is something we always get good feedback on, but understand some of the rustic charm may not be to your choice. • "No mention of parking difficulties which was poor."

  Strong smell of urine when entering the bathroom owing to stains underneath the toilet seat. Both sofas very grubby and stained which gave of a smell of poor odour. The Cotswold's area was beautiful.

• "Absolutely loved our stay at Chippy Cottage."

  Wonderfully equipped, beautifully located, gorgeously decorated etc. Thank you so much - we would come back in a heartbeat and may well do so depending on where our family is next year. Our family is currently split up across the Atlantic with two of our kids at uni in the UK and one still with us in Connecticut, U.S., and your cosy cottage provided just a lovely place for us all to reconnect over Thanksgiving.

• "Cottage was lovely and well positioned ."

  Freezer really needed for a family of four though . Also no tea towels or cleaning sponges were left . Otherwise lovely .

• "An amazing week in the most gorgeous cottage."

  We had long lunches in the many lovely towns surrounding Chipping Norton, and relaxing evenings by the wood burner. Absolutely beautiful we loved every minute x

• "1. Black mould on the wall under the window of bedroom 1, the bedroom in which our 2 year old slept, 2."

  Vacuum cleaner didn’t work - had to bring one in. 3. Not enough cutlery, china and cooking utensils for 6 + child 4. Oven not clean on arrival. On the positive side, cottage was attractive, warm and comfortable, though it is important to eliminate the mould!

  Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear of the issues you experienced. The owner has investigated and responded to your comments. The mould was only superficial and wiped off easily. It was only due to a cushion which had been left wet, so was just restricted to the wall directly behind the cushion. There is no damp problem in the property. The vacuum cleaner bag needed emptying and the housekeeping team have checked the tableware and the oven. We are glad that you were warm and comfortable during your stay. • "Chippy Cottage was a beautiful place."

  The cottage was of a very high standard with traditional beams, yet had everything modern that you need. It was a great central place to be based in the Cotswolds. There are some lovely pubs nearby. I would recommend this Cottage and would definitely go back there again.

  Really great central location in Chipping Norton. Thoughtful touches on arrival such as delicious cake as well as bread and milk in the fridge. Also very useful antibacterial hand gel and wipes. Very swift communication. The cottage ground floor keeps really cool despite the heat but it gets hotter on the 1st floor and even hotter in the top bedroom. Saying that a fan was provided and over 30 degrees heatwave doesn’t happen that often in the Cotswolds. All in all would highly recommend.

  The cottage has been renovated to a high spec, with really good facilities, great little kitchen, good bathroom and even a useful utility room. The rooms are all a good size, and the beds comfy! If over 6 foot, You will need to watch your head when going into the bathroom and bedrooms, and the stairs are a little awkward to come down as the beams are quite low at the bottom. There are great finishing touches throughout which are really lovely to see and made our stay really enjoyable. It's just a short walk to the Theatre and lots of pubs/restaurants and take-aways. We had no trouble parking outside each night, but you do get a permit to park in the premier inn car park which we didn't ever need to use.

  Very stylish and lots of lovely touches. Great location, a 2 minute walk from the centre of Chipping Norton but on a quiet, pretty street. Very well equipped. Hosts were very friendly and responsive and provided lots of info about the local area in the guest book. - The only slight downside for us is that there is only one bathroom which isn’t much considering it can sleep up to 6 but this is obviously fully disclosed.

  The welcome cake was much appreciated as was the milk and coffee. We thought the owners had done a brilliant job of making the cottage nice and modern but keeping its gorgeous original features. Absolutely loved the loft bedroom and cosy living room. We brought a tipi for the kids as a late Christmas present and this stayed up in the living room all weekend so it was great to have room for the kids to play in it. Stairs were quite steep which was a worry with the kids but can't be helped. Overall thought Chippy Cottage was beautiful and homely and could have definitely done with more than three nights there!

  It is easy to get to and the owners have gone the extra mile to make guests feel at home. We loved our stay. There was a special extra which we did not expect, and that was a delicious cake awaiting us on the kitchen table. There were six of us, and even though the cottage was small, we did not trip over each other. All the bedrooms are a good size and very comfortable.
