  • "Excellent lovely cottage nice cosy."

Good location opposite the pub. We couldn't find any fault with the cottage. Even coffee and cake at the village hall

Thank you for your lovely feedback, it's always nice to hear when guests find little places like the village hall to have coffee and cake during the stay, a wonderful tip for future guests. We hope to welcome you again soon. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner

  • "Cottage is in a lovely peaceful setting."

Looking out of the bedroom and lounge window to see the monument. Cottage was accurately described and had everything we needed. The owner came out to say hello on the first evening and asked if everything was okay. When we booked the cottage we forgot to mention that my husband has a feather allergy because of his asthma, and we realised when we got to the cottage that the duvet was a feather one. We were just going to use sheets instead of the duvet but the owner very kindly looked for an alternative and found a non-feather duvet for us to use. Thank you, we really appreciate this! The owner left us to enjoy the holiday but when we bumped into her in the car park, she was friendly and gave us a few tips of what is in the area. The chequers pub is opposite right across the road, food was lovely with local beers on tap. We found a good walk to do aswell from the cottage.

Thank you for your lovely feedback, it sounds like you both had a wonderful time and made the most of the things to do in the area. It's a great location to explore the Cotswolds and further afield. We hope to welcome you again for another stay soon. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner

Effectively, we had two separate wings of the house for sleeping/bathing and plenty of space for dining and relaxing. We loved the woodburner and the kitchen was well-equipped. Our host made some recommendations for us that added to the overall enjoyment of our break. Perfect!

  • "A really lovely village cottage, in excellent condition."

The accommodation really lived up to the description in the advert. It was very comfortable and the facilities made it feel very much like home. There was a wealth of information provided about the numerous local attractions - we needed more time to do them proud! We particualrly appreciated the very "light touch" applied by the very friendly owners. We knew that we could easily contact them without any concerns that we were being a nuisance. The only observation, hopefully positive, would be that the stairs were quite steep, which meant that my wife had to be helped up and own, as she is disabled - reference to that in the advert, could be helpful to potential clients.

Many thanks for your kind feedback. We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay and your comments are much appreciated. We have not received any previous observation about the stairs but will adapt the commentary to suit, thank you. So glad the weather as favourable for your visit too. A lovely welcome pack including cake and milk. That was appreciated. The most comfortable beds and beautiful linen. Heaven. For us, there was only one little niggle…no freezer. We bring most of our food with us, I knew that the only freezer was the freezer box in the fridge, that was the only negative. Many thanks to Anne Marie and Paul, for letting us loan their cottage for a week…and light the fire…we love a good log burner.

Thank you for your lovely feedback. We are very glad you enjoyed your stay and made the most of visiting the National Trust properties nearby. We are sorry the kitchen does not have a separate freezer but appreciate you pointing this out for future guests. And we are so glad you found the beds comfortable. • "We stayed at Anvil for a week in July and it's a lovely cottage, set in a small but beautiful village."

Unfortunately due to its location it wasn't for us... there is a childrens playground right next door that older kids congregated around that caused noise pollution late evening, along with the constant sound of running water from the village fountain which was also right next to the property. The bed in the master bedroom has a VERY firm mattress, which may suit some people but unfortunately for me immediately brought on a very painful pain in my hip and we ended up leaving a day early. Although the property was generally clean, there are many cobwebs (watch out for BIG Boris behind the headboard), we had to descale the kettle and shower head on day one, and all the crockery and cutlery required cleaning before use! Don't be put off by the garage next door, as they work quietly and caused no interference.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear that the cottage and its location did not suit you, what a shame. We have passed the issues you raised onto the owner to be investigated. We do hope that you consider choosing a Manor Cottage on another occasion and are more successful in finding a property more suited to your requirements. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

Helpful but not intrusive. Had a lovely time visiting the places in the area and the cottage is a great base to do so.The cottage, is very clean, comfy beds, big bedrooms, plenty of outdoor space. Bedding is immaculate! Dropped a star due to legs on tub chairs in living room being broken (we did inform Ann-Marie) Also think a small freezer would be a good idea in the kitchen. On some reviews it says about a fabulous welcome pack.....we got 4 coffee bags and a packet of brownies. Hardly a welcome pack but its not the most important thing when everything else is near perfect

Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback. We're so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Anvil Cottage and found the location to be such a good base for the area. We have passed on your comments to the owner and hope this didn't impact your stay in any way. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "Lovely house, very comfortable beds, and everything was lovely and clean."

The only beef we had was that the patio table and chairs were covered with bird droppings so it was a major clean up if we wanted to use them. Because it is under trees it would really benefit from having a patio set cover and some cushions. Our hosts were really nice and even though they were close by, we had lots of privacy. Thank you for a lovely holiday.

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your recent stay at Anvil Cottage. We are so pleased to hear you had a lovely time at the house. Unfortunately we cannot do much about nature, but we will pass on your comments to the Owner and see if they are able to look at getting covers for the garden furniture or look to move the table to another location that's not under the tree. The washer/dryer the dryer was not at all good and we wasted hours of electricity getting clothes dry. The only other thing i would say was a negative would be that all the pillows were soft and this is the first place i have stayed in that did not have a mixture of hard and soft. The cottage itself is quaint, ideally situated, very central and warms up really fast. Just those few niggly details.

Apologies for our delay in replying. The dryer unit to the washing machine has since been replaced and we regret the inconvenience this caused. When we saw the owner she told us that it had been converted from the stables of the forge some years ago. It has all the facilities that you need and the shower has lots of pressure. The sloping ceilings may not suit everyone but we found them querky and delightful adding charm to very well maintaind cottage. The cottage is next to a large village green area with two playing areas for children (one up to 7 year old, the other for larger children) but you do not suffer any undue noise. There is plenty of room for ball games and the field is dog friendly. The Chequers across the road supplies very good food (but is £££). Overall we very much enjoyed our stay at Anvil Cottage and would certainly book again.

  • "We absolutely loved our stay at Anvil Cottage and we would like to come back for future breaks in the Cotswold."

The cottage was spacious and fully equipped with everything that we needed for the long weekend. Little touches like a small pint of milk and tea bags so we could have a cuppa and candles that we could light in the evenings, just made it that little bit extra helpful and comfortable. We made use of the log burner/fire place and it was just super cosy, perfect for a winter getaway. The instructions to get to Anvil cottage and key collection were also super easy to follow and we made it there without any trouble.

  • "A very clean and comfortable, well maintained, homely, well appointed cottage with many thoughtful touches, fresh flowers, milk in the fridge, toiletries, etc."

In a good, quiet location, ideal for exploring the delightful villages and towns in North Cotswolds. The pub opposite served delicious food and was very welcoming. The very pleasant owners of the cottage were on hand but allowed us privacy. We would definitely stay again.

The property

Anvil Cottage is a hidden gem in the heart of this picturesque Cotswolds town.

This quaint cottage is tucked away in a quiet area of Churchill, not far from the charming towns of Chipping Norton and Stow on the Wold.

The home's interior is a good size for its purpose, providing a relaxing environment for a family of four in its two upstairs bedrooms with attached bathrooms and its downstairs living room and kitchen.

The living room has a traditional wood burning stove for warmth and doors leading out to the garden creating a homely ambience; the kitchen is well and fully equipped, but with such a great pub right across the street and others in the nearby villages, you may decide to splurge on a regular basis!

Additionally, there is a conservatory that looks out onto the garden, which features lovely cottage-style planting and is an excellent compliment to the home's design.

Just beyond the garden's gates is a fantastic playing field complete with a sizable open area, cricket pitch, and a modest playground.

This welcoming cottage in a picturesque Cotswolds town is ideal for a wonderful holiday.
