  • "Stonewell Cottage is in a great location, just 15 minutes walk from the lovely town of Stow on the Wold - which is great for evening meals and country shops."

We especially enjoyed eating at the Sheep pub. Other good things about the Cottage are that it's very quiet, has lovely field views, there's plenty of space and it is well equipped (although we didn't really cook). However 2 things to note - my friend had the main bedroom and found the mattress uncomfortable. I think that was mentioned in a previous review. Secondly there was only 2 days worth of wood left for the wood burner. When you are paying top rate for a cottage I think wood should be provided for the week, if needed. Overall it was an enjoyable week with easy access by car to all neighbouring towns and local Cotswolds attractions

We are thrilled to hear you enjoyed Stonewell Cottage and Stow on the Wold, it really is a lovely destination. We are sorry to hear that you found one of the beds uncomfortable, and thanks to your feedback we will look in to this further. Most cottages come with a starter pack of logs to allow guests to enjoy a fire on arrival, if any more are required they can be purchased locally. We hope this didn't detract from your overall experience and look forward to welcoming you back to the Cotswolds again soon. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

Beautiful, no, stunning setting. Nice and quiet. Generous with heating and supplies. The windows could do with a clean inside and out, spoils the view a little. Other than that, everything was great. Would definitely stay again, probably for a fortnight next time to make the journey worth it.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you all enjoyed your stay and we do hope we can welcome you back again soon. We will arrange for the windows to be cleaned. Kind Regards, Manor Cottages Property Owner

Location was superb and it was very relaxing stay. Only one minor detail, the walk up the drive is a little steep if one of you has a bit of a mobility issue.

The bed is super-comfortable too. The sofas are a little tired but not too bad. Location is ideal - 15 minutes walk into Stow-on-the-Wold and 10 minutes drive into Bourton-on-the-Water. We loved it so much that we have booked it next year.

Wow - what a review! We are so pleased that you had such a lovely time and have rebooked for next year! Location and cottage are beautiful. We thought the garden would be dog friendly as stated enclosed garden but dogs can get out. Cottage was lovely although lots of cobwebs. There was also black mold in the small window in the bathroom that needs attention. But would stay again.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback following your recent stay. It really is a beautiful cottage in a peaceful location. The garden is dog friendly and the ideal size for dogs to stretch their legs but we have removed 'enclosed' from the description for accuracy. Thank you for raising this. We have spoken with housekeeping regarding the cobwebs and have asked them to address the small window in the bathroom. We hope we can welcome you back next time you visit the area. There is just one thing that I would change and that is the seating in the lounge. We felt that this was the only thing we would replace as we felt that it was rather old and worn. Otherwise we could not fault a thing. The bathrooms, bedrooms, the kitchen and the decor were all lovely. We felt so relaxed and “at home” Highly recommended !!! Irene & Amy

It was exactly as described and the owners seemed to have thought of everything, including plenty of sockets (sadly lacking in some properties)…….. • "The property was great, the views were lovely."

The well was a cool addition, albeit quite creepy. Quite a few cobwebs in the bedroom. The only big negative of the property was not being able to control our own heating. We have a baby and it was very cold in the evenings so we ended up having to have the baby in bed with us as it was too cold for him to be in another room on his own. The set timings for the heating were also a bit daft as a lot of them werent needed as we were not in the house at the time it was being heated. We would have rather it be heated in the evening so we all could have had a better, warm, nights sleep. New mattresses are needed as the main bed dips in the middle.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. We're glad you enjoyed the property but sorry to hear you encountered some issues with the heating. We would have helped rectify this had you contacted us during your stay. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

The cottage is cosy and spacious and the views are incredible. We used the woodburner daily which kept us nice and toasty and the bed was SO comfy! The walk to Stow is very quick through a little short cut and there are lovely walks to be found directly from the cottage. It was the perfect base for us to go and explore further afield too as it was a short drive to everything. The only negative was that the ensuite shower didn't seem to get hot enough so the showers were very... refreshing! We would still highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a Cotswold stay and we would definitely stay here again.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are delighted that you had a cosy comfortable stay and enjoyed the local walks. We will pass on your comments regarding the shower, to be investigated. We hope we can welcome you back again. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "We came for my wife’s 30th birthday and she always wanted to come to the Cotswolds."

We came with 2 friends, our dog and their dog. We had a really lovely time. The cottage was stunning and the views were picturesque! The cottage was comfortable, clean and spacey. The rooms were a great size and the beds were to die for! Kitchen has been refurbed which isn’t shown in the pictures which was a pleasant surprise. The garden area was big and all enclosed so the pups couldn’t escape which was nice. The only criticism we would have as a group is that the shower in the main bathroom is poor. The water was cold and the water flow was very slow so it was hard work to have a shower in there and someone couldn’t be in the en-suite shower whilst the main bathroom shower was on as both showers would then work poorly. I think to pay that sort of money to stay for a weekend, a nice warm shower should be a given really. But genuinely, we loved the cottage and we would definitely stay here again and recommend to anybody, just the shower needs abit of seeing to I think.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with such lovely feedback on your stay at Stonewell Cottage. We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your time away and we appreciate your comments regarding the shower. We hope that we can welcome you again one day soon. Best wishes, Manor Cottages. We spent the first 3 hours of our day cleaning with 2 young children on our hands and knees as the mop provided was broken. I got 2 bites from sitting on the sofa so spent the rest of the holiday sat on a wooden dining chair when we were there. For a 5 tick rating property we less than happy so contacted the owners who offered an insulting amount of money back but then upped it to 10% which is the only reason we’re giving a single star. Such a shame because the property could be lovely with a proper clean coupled with the quietness and amazing views. As for staying here again, for us, it’s no.

About the location

STOW-ON-THE-WOLD

Bourton-on-the-Water 4 miles; Stratford upon Avon 15 miles.

The highest town in the Cotswolds, Stow-on-the-Wold, originally an Iron Age Fort, epitomises olde worlde England. This ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly Farmers' market. The vast market square boasts an ancient cross at one end and the village stocks at the other, surrounded by an elegant array of Cotswold stone townhouses, antique shops, tea rooms, traditional pubs, award-winning restaurants and its very own cricket museum. Many walks and cycle rides through the beautiful rolling countryside of the Cotswolds can be enjoyed from the centre of Stow, with the Macmillan Way, Heart of England Way, Gloucestershire and Monarch's Way all running close to the town. Bourton-on-the-Water, known as the 'Venice of the Cotswolds' as the River Windrush runs through the centre, lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is one of the most popular Cotswold villages. The Saxon market town of Moreton-in-Marsh and the quintessential English village of Broadway are all within easy reach and make a great day out. Cheltenham (20 miles away) is, architecturally, the most complete regency town in England. A spa town with an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, it is famous for its horse-racing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. At other times of year, it is host to literature, jazz, classical music, science and food and drink festivals. Oxford, the oldest university city in England and sometimes called 'The City of Dreaming Spires’ has an abundance of prestigious attractions, including the 38 colleges of the university (half of which date back before 1600), the oldest university teaching room, the Bodleian Library, Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums, and Botanic Gardens. Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also within easy reach, making Stow-on-the-Wold an ideal base.
