  • "We enjoyed a very good weeks rest at Orchard House."

Even before we arrived we had good communication with the owner Stephen, who offered his support during our stay. The house is very well located, the Horse and Groom Pub next door is very convenient with recommended food and just a 5 minute drive into Stow on the Wold when required. Also as we had our 2 dogs there was a few good walks in the area and further afield. Orchard House had everything we could wish for and hopefully we can return again in the future?

Thank you Stephen for your comments, we are delighted you enjoyed your stay with us and a lovely meal at the local Pub next door. It's a great base to explore the Cotswolds and you have so many lovely walks and places to visit. We would love to welcome you back again soon. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner

Well equipped with everything we could want. A real home from home. Welcome pack was a nice gesture as well. Upper Oddington is a beautiful village with many walks right on the doorstep and a lovely pub just down the road. Stephen the owner was extremely helpful and responded to any questions immediately. Would definitely book again.

We are happy to hear that you had such an enjoyable stay and found the property a 'home by home'. The area really is beautiful and it sounds like you had fun exploring it. We hope we can welcome you back again soon. Kind Regards, Manor Cottages Property Owner

  • "Very enjoyable stay in this wonderful cottage."

My only comment is the pillows need changing in the twin bedroom as not too comfortable and the ensuite shower did not run warm water (was set to auto as instructed). However, we did not get round to ringing maintenance who I am sure would have obliged. This was a wonderful cottage and I will be giving it an excellent review on trip advisor.

Thank you Susan. Pillows changed on our most recent visit! One had got a little soft. Pleased (as we discussed) that the water did run warm again and has since. An unexplained aberration! Glad that you had a peaceful stay and enjoyed the village. Stephen Property Owner

All in all we had a wonderful few days with my parents, niece and our 2 little dogs. Thanks for sharing your beautiful cottage

Lovely home from home feeling, with good facilities, especially the showers. Only slight niggle, the grass was rather long and as we had boys it was all about ball games! This was resolved promptly the next morning. Good customer service! A couple of the kitchen cupboards could do with a little tlc but other than that, we had a great time and would happily recommend.

Christine. Glad that you have a peaceful break and felt a 5 star review was appropriate! Very happy to have sorted the grass so quickly - with all the rain there had not been a dry enough period to do in the previous fortnight. Thank you for letting us know about the cupboard door - also now fixed. Hopefully we will see you all again soon. Best wishes, Property Owner

It’s larger than you would think, and even better than the photos. There is plenty of space to spread out, we were celebrating a significant Birthday for my Father and had family members and friends join. I also ‘worked from home’ for a couple of days with Teams meetings most of the day and WiFi connection was very good. It’s a lovely village, with footpaths close by. We had a great meal at the pub next door and also went into Stow which is as good as ever. Thank you for a great stay.

Thank you Grace. Really glad that both you and family had a lovely time. We work in the Cottage quite a bit and agree that the new super fast fibre lines are much much better than the old ones! Hopefully we will see you again soon. Best wishes. Property Owner

Few little things such as not much toilet paper and only two logs were left for a whole weeks stay and one wouldn’t even fit on the fire. Would have expected more for in winter.

Thank you for your kind feedback and it is great to know that you enjoyed both the house and its location. Apologies that you were left short of a few items. There should be a minimum of two toilet rolls per bathroom (and WC). Likewise a full basket of logs and kindling. As a note to future guests, please call Manor Cottages or the owner on the your first night and let us know if there is anything missing. We can address this immediately. We would honestly rather hear immediately as opposed to after your visit. Property Owner

Thank you Laura. We are really happy that you liked the house so much. Apologies that the grass had not been cut back. The constant rain had stopped our lovely gardener (Stuart) from mowing over the last 10-12 days. He has done so twice since thankfully. He is scheduled to visit fortnightly. It is well equipped. The kitchen/dining room is very spacious and airy and the lounge is comfortable. Two of the three bedrooms - the double bedded rooms -are also spacious. My only criticisms are small ones which are summed up by the comment that there was a need for a bit of maintenance here and there. The grass in the back garden was overly long, which meant it was very wet to walk on. The lightbulbs in the lamps in the lounge had gone but (despite a previous visitor also mentioning this) were not replaced, and the door handle between the kitchen and the hall was extremely loose. Whilst we were there, water started to come through the ceiling too! To be fair, this was quickly and effectively dealt with by a plumber and electrician organised by Sykes, but the plumber commented that the leak (due to a break in the sealant around the bath) had clearly been happening 'for quite a long time'. All that said, this IS a very nice cottage, with many, many positives, and we had a very good break!

There was a box of light bulbs in the utility cupboard but they either didn't fit or didn't work. The cottage would not be suitable for anyone with mobility problems as there are steps between each room downstairs and into two of the bedrooms upstairs - not mentioned in the detail of the cottage.

Supremely comfortable, beautifully appointed and extremely well equipped with everything you need and more if, like us, you seek a relaxing stay in the Cotswolds. The location is perfect - a tranquil ‘off the beaten track’ setting which also gives easy access to other pretty surrounding villages and towns. We have rented many holiday cottages and this is by far the best we’ve ever stayed in.

A lovely deck with a table for outdoor dining. It was a perfect location for drives to other villages in the Cotswolds. We were ready to stay and move in!

Beautiful property in a pretty village. Very well located for visiting other villages and towns in the local area and further afield. The property was very cosy, comfortable and suited the 5 of us nicely. There is something for everyone whether that be places of historical interest, walking, shopping or eating out. I had requested one of the bedrooms be set up as a twin room instead of a three quarter, although on arrival an oversight meant it had been set up as a three quarter. Following a call to the office, the housekeeper had arrived at the property within the hour [we would have done it ourselves although bedding was stored in another part of the property that was secured]. Excellent customer service that could not be faulted. Would happily recommend to others as a relaxing and comfortable place to stay.

  • "We generally loved our stay at the property, but there are a couple of maintenance issues that we would like to raise."

There were a number of light bulbs not working throughout the property, the most inconvenient being the lights to the property entrance. This made key collection from the safe at night extremely difficult due to it being pitch black! Perhaps a quick bulb check could be made before guests arrive? Also, on our arrival the refuse and recycling bins were almost full. We were lead to believe that the bin collection woupd be during our stay and the bins were placed onto the road, presumably by the housekeeper. However this wasn’t the case as the bin collection is fortnightly. As a consequence, when we left the bins were over flowing. Perhaps provision should be made for refuse to be removed after guests have left the property? Finally, the Roman blind in the kitchen was found to be broken. This and the non working light bulbs I reported directly to the office, during our stay.

The issue with the outside lights and blinds have both been addressed. Apologies for having to arrive in the pitch black Property Owner

About the location

STOW-ON-THE-WOLD

Bourton-on-the-Water 4 miles; Stratford upon Avon 15 miles.

The highest town in the Cotswolds, Stow-on-the-Wold, originally an Iron Age Fort, epitomises olde worlde England. This ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly Farmers' market. The vast market square boasts an ancient cross at one end and the village stocks at the other, surrounded by an elegant array of Cotswold stone townhouses, antique shops, tea rooms, traditional pubs, award-winning restaurants and its very own cricket museum. Many walks and cycle rides through the beautiful rolling countryside of the Cotswolds can be enjoyed from the centre of Stow, with the Macmillan Way, Heart of England Way, Gloucestershire and Monarch's Way all running close to the town. Bourton-on-the-Water, known as the 'Venice of the Cotswolds' as the River Windrush runs through the centre, lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is one of the most popular Cotswold villages. The Saxon market town of Moreton-in-Marsh and the quintessential English village of Broadway are all within easy reach and make a great day out. Cheltenham (20 miles away) is, architecturally, the most complete regency town in England. A spa town with an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, it is famous for its horse-racing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. At other times of year, it is host to literature, jazz, classical music, science and food and drink festivals. Oxford, the oldest university city in England and sometimes called 'The City of Dreaming Spires’ has an abundance of prestigious attractions, including the 38 colleges of the university (half of which date back before 1600), the oldest university teaching room, the Bodleian Library, Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums, and Botanic Gardens. Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also within easy reach, making Stow-on-the-Wold an ideal base.
