  • "We had an excellent Bank Holiday weekend at The Cow Byre."

We have stayed in a lot of properties over the years and this is definitely one of the best in terms of facilities and comfort. We were particularly impressed with the kitchen and cooking facilities. Everything that you need for successful self catering for a large adult party was provided. This not always the case. Communication was excellent and we were offered early entry and late leaving as the property was free before and after. The location might not suit everyone in terms of the narrow lanes but we found it fine. All in all very satisfied.

We visited with my daughter, son in law and 7 year old granddaughter who had great fun with the "hatch". The weather was fairly kind and we managed to get to some wonderful places, recommend Hampton Court Castle for the gardens. The property was very secluded and the access was via some country lanes which made life interesting on occasions. We would recommend this property and would happily revisit in the future.

Rosemary and David were great and very helpful. The property is ideally situated for Ludlow, Bridgnorth, Much Wenlock and Shrewsbury to name but a few, and has a few national Trust properties within easy reach. Upstairs is a pit restricted with the sloping ceilings but ok for a weeks holiday, but the downstairs is very spacious and flows perfectly for a family get together. Be careful of the narrow roads and pot holes as they can be a challenge. Lovely stay...thank you to Rosemary and David

  • "The Cow Byre was perfect for the 6 of us, all adults."

The bedrooms were comfortable with plenty of cupboard space and the 2 bathrooms, although small, served us well for the weekend. It was very hot for 2 of the 3 nights and a fan would have been useful. The kitchen was pretty well stocked but we cooked a Chinese one night and needed a wok which it didn’t have. Cushions for the chairs outside would also have helped as we were lucky enough to spend much time outside but the chairs were pretty uncomfortable. The Cow Byre is in a rather remote area, wonderful if you enjoy peace and quiet but not so good if you don’t like single track roads with few passing places.

A very clean and comfortable cottage with great facilities. Downstairs was much larger than expected and don't think the photos do it justice. The kitchen was really well equipped, we cooked in every night. Upstairs you need to be careful not to bump your head! But very comfortable. The food left to welcome us was a lovely touch. A great base to explore locally, we visited Stokesay Castle, the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre, The Severn Valley Railway, Ludlow Castle and the town a couple of times, Ludlow Farm Shop and Berrington Hall.

So if you don't like rural don't choose to stay here... we loved it though! Really well equipped , exceptionally clean accommodation. The owners David and Rosemary are delightful and have created a fabulous place to stay. There was a lovely welcome pack of biscuits, crisps, pot of jam and a bottle of sparkling elderflower waiting for us plus a pint of milk in the fridge. Beds are really comfortable and plenty of towels provided. There are sloping ceilings with beams so watch your heads - we bumped ours several times!! Lovely power showers although the only criticism I would have is that the glass shower screens on both of them are not big enough to stop water going all over the floor so you need to mop up the floor after showering. Ideal accommodation for 6 adults and one child (single room not really suitable for an adult in my opinion. Building divided into two separate areas upstairs with two staircases so ideal for 4 people one side and 3 the other. No real space for hanging clothes in the smaller side and only one wardrobe in the larger side. Superbly quiet and with no street lights outside and blinds on the velux windows it was lovely and dark at night. Although very rural it was only 9 miles to Ludlow (nearest town) but it didn't take us long to get to other places within Shropshire - roads very narrow and a bit of a challenge though before you get to any A roads. Overall it was a fabulous 5 night stay - just wish we had had longer there. Would thoroughly recommend.

I felt that the down stairs worked really well. Upstairs was equally comfortable. I think the bath/shower would benefit with a bigger screen or curtain as the water went everywhere whilst having a shower. In some of the bedrooms it might be nice to have hanging space maybe more hooks or a hanging rail. These are very minor things and would make life a little easier. Lots of character, spotlessly clean, good facilities for a family or group of friends. Bedrooms comfortable, with good blackout blinds, although ceilings are low and our 6ft son did have to take care not to bump his head! Bathrooms modern: large shower heads with enough water pressure to have a really good drenching shower (lovely after a day walking the hills). Plenty of space downstairs, the little extra sofa provides somewhere to sit & chat to others in the kitchen or dining area. The utility area is useful for boots etc. and has a washer/drier. No games room (as mentioned in the Sykes description) but board games, puzzles, DVD player & smart TV with Netflix. Paved area outside to sit/eat or play with small kids (although no grass). Lots to do locally for all ages, selection of local books, leaflets & maps. Lovely basket of goodies on arrival with tea, coffee & milk provided - very welcome after a long journey. The owners are friendly & helpful, but unobtrusive. Another review mentioned noisy dogs: we heard no more than the occasional bark and were never woken by them. The lanes to get to the property are narrow, as it is a little remote, but we have a people carrier and had no difficulty negotiating them to get there. Very highly recommended, we would love to return!

Underfloor heating graces the property, bringing warmth to those cooler nights, with beams overseeing the layout and spotlights that give off a cosy glow.

There is a sofa and a TV so you can relax here whilst preparing those home-cooked meals, with seating at the table for eight people to come together.

If you can steer yourself away from the comfy set-up, why not settle down in the separate lounge; a spacious arrangement finished with homely features.

A wood-burning stove and a sumptuous corner sofa provide all the seating you need for a lovely night in.

The first floor continues the characterful features of this barn conversion, two stairways lead up to the bedrooms; one side houses a walk-in shower, whilst the other is presented as a bathroom with a shower above.

Under exposed beams and Velux windows, the upper level offers somewhere charming to escape to after a day of sightseeing and adventure.

The suntrap patio area is a lovely chance to enjoy the fresh air, reflect on your journeys so far, and of course, make more plans.

There are many things to do within walking distance of the property.

4 minutes walk from the barn is Heath Chapel; a 900 year old Anglican Chapel on the National Heritage list for England due to it's ancient wall paintings and faithfulness to it's original construction.

If you are slightly more active around a 30 minute walk away you could visit the Nordy Bank Iron Age Hill Fort then onwards up to the top of the highest hill in Shropshire The Brown Clee, worth a visit even if it is just for the views of the beautiful surrounding countryside.
