  • "A lovely property by the canal."

    Reviewed by Glenn4.7Oct 2024

  • "I enjoyed my short stay at Wigrams which is in a lovely location by the canal."

It was good to watch passing boats and the wildlife. The cottage is well equipped. I just felt that the sofa should be replaced as it isn't comfortable in my opinion. The bed in contrast is very comfortable. The welcome basket was great, the best I have experienced. Apart from a very brief meeting with the owner on arrival when I had a problem with the key safe, I didn't see the owners.

  • "The cottage was a little gem and the surroundings were the crown jewels!"

The accommodation is perfect for a couple. The kitchen is well equipped, the bathroom has a fantastic walk-in shower and the bedroom has sufficient storage and a very comfortable bed. What makes this cottage extra special is the position and the views from each window. I loved the visiting wildlife, especially the heron, the ducks and the moorhens. The four cheeky resident hens stole my heart. It was good to know that the owners were nearby if we needed anything but they were unobtrusive so we felt that we had complete privacy. They also provided the most generous welcome pack that we've ever had in a holiday cottage. There are plenty of good eateries within a short drive, also a well stocked and friendly village shop which also serves hot pasties and coffees to take away or devour on the couple of tables in front of the shop. So although the location is rural and extremely peaceful, it does not feel remote. I would have no hesitation in recommending this little slice of heaven to anyone who appreciates countryside and wildlife.

  • "Wigrams is a lovely comfortable cottage in a great location."

It’s peaceful, quiet and relaxing. The cottage faces the canal and at the back is the owners large pond with ducks, moorhens and herons. The cottage is clean and well equipped. The bed was so comfortable and there is a great walk-in shower. The WiFi is the best we’ve ever had in a holiday cottage. We particularly enjoyed the wood burner in the evenings. The welcome basket was the best ever, milk, butter, bread, homemade preserves and honey, fruit and delicious flapjacks. We also enjoyed the daily visits from the free roaming hens. The parking is great, on the owner’s drive. There are lots of places to visit just a short drive away, including several NT properties, the motor museum and Kenilworth Castle. We really didn’t want to leave and hope to go back soon.

It was a joy to watch the moorhens while having a shower and enjoy the starling murmuration just along the tow path. It was lovely to be able to lie in bed and watch the boats passing by. The friendly chickens could be a little bit of a nuisance as they liked to try to come in the open doors. The welcome pack was beyond our expectations containing milk, bread, eggs, jam, honey, marmalade and some flapjacks. There was also tea and ground coffee for use in the cafetiere. The facilities were perfectly set for self catering although the chopping boards were a little small. There were USB ports in some of the electric sockets so charging devices was easy. Our only complaint was with the heating. Although this was on it seemed to be set at a very low temperature so it was cool when getting up first thing. It was easy to raise the temperature but should not have been necessary. Although wi-fi was available it was a little sketchy anywhere but the bedroom. An extender might be an idea.

The photos don't really show just how nice the cottage and the location really are. The location is beautiful - the immediate area is just so relaxing, watching the boats go past everyday but the wider location is also really pretty. It certainly rivals Cornwall and The Cotswolds, but much better value and much less traffic. There are lots of dog friendly pubs nearby, everyone is very friendly and there are so many beautiful places to dog walk. Our welcome pack was fresh bread, home made jams and homemade flapjacks - fabulous and very much appreciated. We will definitely be back. Sykes on the other hand are not so good - there have got too big and no longer understand customer service. Unfortunately for us during our stay for three nights persons using the B&B bedroom decided they needed to get out of bed at 3.30 am and walk up and down for 30 mins or so - and not too light on their feet either !
