I felt right at home as soon I got in. The cottage was cosy and private. It had plenty of books and boardgames to entertain on rainy days. Everthing was clean and the kitchen had everything you might need. Coffee pods and other breakfast supplies were a nice touch. The grounds around the cottage are beautiful. Jo, the host, is lovely and makes you feel really welcome. The location is convenient to visit nearby villages like Lacock and Malmesbury and explore the lovely countryside.

Thank you for your lovely feedback with regards to your recent stay at Comedy Cottage. It's wonderful to hear you felt it was a home from home. It's located in amazing grounds and I'm so pleased to hear you enjoyed them. We hope to welcome you back again very soon. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner

  • "Beautiful cottage with a lot of space."

Great kitchen but need some more pans and cups and soucers. Great WiFi Bed was small and for us too hard. Busy road in front of the house. And Railroad about 500 metres away. Lovely places in the surroundings Jo the owner is really nice and helpfull. So good place to stay in the Cotswolds

Thank you for your feedback. We're glad you loved the cottage and surrounding areas. We would have provided additional kitchen equipment if contacted during your stay. The cottage is set far back from road and separated from the road by 4 acres of gardens. The railway is quite far away and trains are very rarely heard. We hope the issues mentioned didn't impact your stay and that we can welcome you again when you visit the Cotswolds. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

Made very welcome. Would not hesitate to come again. We had decided to have a break from our four legged friend but had we brought him along, think, given the enormous garden that we would have had to keep him on the lead at all times as there is no formal enclosure.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback on your stay at The Comedy. We are so glad to hear that both your and your dog enjoyed your time away! We hope that we can welcome you again one day in the future. Best wishes, Manor Cottages. Property Owner

  • "The location is wonderful for visiting many beautiful areas,The Cotswolds,Bath,Nearby Gloucester and Somerset."

The little pony and the sheep in the paddock next door to the cottage were lovely. Comedy cottage is very pretty to look at and certainly it is pleasant to sit outside of an evening. Unfortunately, for us,we found comedy cottage uncomfortable to stay inside for the following reasons which could be rectified to make a more positive experience for guests. We found there was no privacy with the staff walking past frequently to and from the attached shed for gardening equipment,as the doors are so big it's very easy to see into the entire downstairs and we could not relax, yes we could shut the big barn doors but it was extremely hot and sunny.putting some obscuring film on the doors,or tinted glass, would make the downstairs more private and hopefully keep it cooler.Upstairs was more comfortable by far but up under the eaves it was uncomfortably hot and with only one fan for the whole place we had to keep moving it room to room.air conditioning would be great. Nowhere to sun bathe due to lack of privacy,as well as staff tending to shrubbery, there were staff cleaning out a van with a very loud radio, the dog being walked by,deliveries arriving outside the doors. To avoid this is to go out or sit and melt upstairs.I'm not sure what the answer is to the privacy and hopefully to many it won't matter if out all day . The welcome pack of bread butter, milk and biscuits were very welcome, thank you.I would advise on the listing to bring everything else which in other cottages are usually present,a few tea bags, salt, pepper, tissues,a couple of coffee sachets, tin foil etc,. We picked up the dog poo as always but didn't know where to put it,perhaps a small dog poo bin somewhere? We stripped the bed as requested(no pillow or duvet protection

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We have passed your comments onto the owner, who is disappointed that you didn’t mention some of the things at the time as she is always very happy to help and would like all her guests to have an enjoyable and comfortable stay. The property description does state that the cottage is situated within the grounds of the owner’s house with 4 acres available for guests to use. The gardener visits on a Monday and as there are no other staff working in the grounds, the owner can suggest a secluded spot to sunbathe. Unfortunately, the van was situated in a neighbouring property and the owner is sorry that you were disturbed and would happily have requested that they turn the radio down. Although the owner does walk down the drive on the way to taking her dog out for a walk, she always tries to skirt away from the cottage as far as possible, so as not to disturb guests. A supply of tea bags, salt and pepper are available in the property and the beds do have pillow and mattress protectors. We do hope you had the opportunity to visit the lovely areas surrounding the property. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner

However the directions given by you were somehow misleading. I drove around for ages trying to find the place. Your directions said to take Junction16 off the M4 motorway whereas if I had taken Junction 17 which my satnav told me too it would have been a lot easier. I drove around for about an hour trying to find the place, in the end my sister drove to help me eventually arrive at the Comedy. Many thanks for the milk, butter, bread and tea bags. Also your bed and furniture is very comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Thank you for your feedback, we are pleased that you enjoyed your stay. However it should be mentioned that due to the low beams upstairs and steep staircase and small steps up and down (2 in the bathroom) not suitable for older people. We nearly had severe falls a few times and we both cracked our heads on the beams. We certainly wouldnt have booked it if we had known that.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback on your stay. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your time overall at The Comedy. We appreciate your comments regarding the steps to the bathroom, stairs and beams. We do show each of these in the properties listing and disclose that the steps to the shower should be taken with extra care. Two points one please invest in a new bistro set for outside...extremely shabby and in need of repair. Also has been mentioned in a previous review the bathroom door doesn't shut so needs to be able to be fixed back some way. As this has been pointed out before i feel it should have been sorted by now. Otherwise had a wonderful time there very happy with everything else.

And the bed was small (Double). The place we rented the weekend before (costing about the same), provided super kings - which is what we have at home. The bathroom door off the bedroom could not be closed without banging the door loudly, thus waking the other partner during the night. Lastly, the property is next to a noisy scrap yard that started work at 8am

Thank you very much for your feedback. I'm sorry you found the ceiling height troublesome, it does state in the description this bedroom is in the eaves. The bed is not small as it is a standard double bed. Apologies for the noise from outside, we have not had any reports of disturbance before. Manor Cottages Property Owner

A spacious well appointed kitchen/eating area downstairs and a comfortable lounge, bedroom and bathroom set in the eaves upstairs, with just the right amount of quirkiness to keep it interesting. A table and chairs outside the front door provide a great setting for a reflective drink at the days end. This is a great base to travel around the Southern Cotswolds, Somerset etc for sightseeing and long walks, but there doesn't seem to be much in the way of long local walks directly from the cottage. We both appreciated the relaxed friendliness of our hosts and the local people we bumped into on our rambles. We returned home after our week relaxed and ready to return to real life.

The property

The Comedy is an attractive barn that sits in the grounds of the owner's magnificent home, set in a quiet and private location and ideal for a relaxing break in the countryside or as a base to visit many exceptional locations including Bath.

Guests can enjoy the gardens freely as well as use the tennis court too!

Unique in name and nature, The Comedy (originally for horses and coaches!) is spacious and very light with accommodation for two people (plus more if necessary).

Although not in Bath itself it is set in the southern Cotswolds, with places like Tetbury and Cirencester only 20 mins drive away while Bath in the other direction is about 25 mins drive.

In fact the barn is great spot for a 'town and country' break!

Downstairs is the kitchen/diner, bright, modern and well equipped, while upstairs is the Living Room , leading to the bedroom and ensuite.

(Please note that although the rooms are in the eaves upstairs, both are full height for a 6ft+ person and not in any way cramped or head hitting at all!) Throughout the home the colours are attractive, welcoming and very much in the modern-contemporary style but in keeping with the location.

The owners, who live on-site, have considered everything to make your stay comfortable.

If you're energetic you might like to use the tennis court!

For the lively and determined there are two pubs within walking distance across the fields.

For the Corona-Virus period, the property will be cleaned and left for 72hours between bookings, for added guest safety

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.

Malmesbury is steeped in history and offers visitors over 400 listed buildings, a 15th century Market Cross, a ruined 7th century Benedictine abbey, an annual carnival and many independent shops, cafes and traditional pubs. Abbey House Gardens, home to 'The Naked Gardeners' can also be found in Malmesbury (Note: The gardeners are clothed during normal opening hours) and the annual Womad Music Festival is close by at Charlton Park. The area offers many country houses, including Rodmarton Manor and Gardens, and Chavenage House, a fine example of a Cotswold manor unchanged for 400 years. Just a short drive away is The Cotswold Water Park, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, covering 40 square miles and offering a wide range of activities, including boating, waterskiing, fishing, cycling, golf and horse riding, plus Bath, Cirencester and Tetbury are all within easy reach and well worth a visit.
