We stayed there for around 3 weeks and it was a home away from home, we didn't want to leave. The property owners were amazing, really friendly and helpful. We will definitely be looking to have future holidays at Brindle or Roan Cottages. We have also recommended it to family members who are looking at visiting the area in August/September.

If you have children with you, there is a Wacky Warehouse pub just 5 minutes away with an indoor playground to entertain them, and you have a choice of supermarkets within easy distance if you'd rather eat in the holiday home. Swindon is on your doorstep with a lot of museums within a short distance and you have easy access to the Wiltshire countryside too. There's really easy access to the M4 too if you are travelling further afield. The property is large with the rooms having a lot of space so children are never under your feet. The kitchen is well-stacked with everything you need and the heating is ample throughout and easy to use - with the ability to make each room as warm (or not) as you like it. The hosts are really conscientious too and leave a few supplies for you (and your dog if you have one) so you can make cuppas etc without having to unpack all your stuff. There is plenty of parking and you're in a quiet location too. Would really recommend for a quiet getaway in this part of the world.

  • "My one and only gripe would be that the beds were small."

I am 6', so hardly a giant, but even the bed in the main bedroom was a little short for me. That being said, it was not enough to stop us having a wonderful week at Brindle cottage. The location was great, with easy access to everything. The new Aldi at Coped Hall made shopping a breeze. I grew up in Wootton Bassett (before it was Royal) and still have relatives and friends there. I will definitely use Brindle Cottage again when visiting.

Thank you for your feedback Nicholas. We are glad to hear you had a lovely stay and found the location and amenities suited your needs. The bed in the main bedroom is a standard double size which is 6' 3" long; we are sorry to learn that it felt too short for you. Our property next door to Brindle called Roan cottage might suit you better if you come again as it has a different style bed, however it is also a double sized standard bed. We eally hope you will visit us again soon. Kind regards Alison and Simon Property Owner

We could not get the heated towel rail to work so we had to use damp towels to dry with. The only comfortable thing in the cottage was the bed. Because of these things we left on Wednesday instead of staying until Friday.

Thank you for your feedback. We strive very hard to make everything as comfortable and enjoyable as possible for all guests. We were very disappointed to discover this feedback placed directly on to the website without being given the opportunity to rectify any issues, despite your replying to our email confirming everything was okay. • "While the property listings mention the M4 being across 3 fields with the chance of noise, there was no mention of the road 40 feet from the front door with traffic 24/7 varying from a couple of cars a hour to around 150 cars an hour at peak times."

The 2 week holiday was spoilt by the neighbouring properties residents being rude and threatening to my wife and pet dog Monty, because he had the nerve to bark. We do not go on holiday to have people in an adjoining property bumping and banging around because they rented the cottage to work in the area. This has been brought to the attention of the owners and Sykes Cottages. Spoilt what was a brilliant holiday. Hope the next occupants dont have the same problem.

The road in front of the property is unclassified and single track with passing places. The number of cars reported passing at peak times can occasionally be high if for any reason the M4 or adjoining road has an incident. We can only assume this is what happened. Our details request dogs be kept on a lead but unfortunately this was not adhered to. The neighbours who only arrived 3 nights before the end of Mr and Mrs Myhill's stay have explained a phobia of dogs as 1 of them had been bitten in the past by a small dog. Unfortunately it seems that Mr and Mrs Myhill were intent on finding fault. We received unjustified complaints from the 2nd day of their stay. Kind regards Property Owner

ROYAL WOOTTON BASSETT

Swindon 6.7 miles; Malmesbury 10.7 miles; Bath 31 miles.

Situated at the southern end of the Cotswold Hills, in rural northern Wiltshire and close to the border with Gloucestershire, the friendly market town of Royal Wootton Bassett can be found. The town was granted Royal patronage in 2011, due to the part it played in the repatriation of military personnel who sadly lost their lives serving their country overseas. It boasts a weekly market and offers a good selection of local shops and inns, providing an ideal touring base from which to explore the attractions of Wiltshire and beyond. The town is close to the historic Lydiard Park, Bowood and Longleat, with the ancient sites of Avebury and Stonehenge nearby. The coastal resorts of Weston-super-Mare and Burnham-on-Sea are just over an hour's drive for anyone wanting to dip their toes in the sea. Visit the charming town of Malmesbury and the Cotswold Water Park and with the historic cities of Bath, Oxford and Salisbury all easily accessible, this area really makes an interesting touring centre at any time of the year.
