  • "We have booked a number of excellent holidays with Sykes and had never been disappointed, however this is the first time we have not only been dissatisfied but believe we have not received the holiday accommodation we had booked as viewed and described in the listing."

In the photos the lounge has a two and a three seater settee with an additional arm chair. 1. The lodge we were allocated had a two seater settee and two single armchairs how does this work for six people? 2. The bedroom photos clearly shows bedside lights which makes sense, our lodge did not. We had ceiling spot lights which were operated by one switch on the right hand side of the bed but means that if one person wants to read all the ceiling spot lights needed to be on. 3. As regards the “Smart TV”s it would be smart if we could have obtained Netflix, Prime or any of the other apps but each time we tried it would not connect. So our smart TVs were not proving to be “Smart! 4. We were provided with one dishwasher tablet but had luckily read a previous review and had brought more. 5. There were no instructions for how to use the microwave or the oven which meant we had to Google each model to obtain the instructions of use. Beware!! this was dangerous as the microwave also acted as a grill and for this use you were provide with a metal shelf!! 6. There was no refuse bag for rubbish (usually at least one is left to start. 7. There was no tea towel, luckily we always bring a couple with us. We took all of the above concerns to reception and spoke to the resort guest manager Steve. I must admit at no time did he show much interest or concern and as you will read his responses were mostly unhelpful and negative. His reply's, 1. The fact that our unit did not have the required lounge furniture for six people was the fault of Sykes as they had been informed on numerous occasions that their photos and descriptions were inaccurate. 2. We receive the same answer that “Sykes knew” as regards to the bedside lights. 3. He stated we were not able to obtain Netflix, Prime TV or any other apps unless we had brought a “fire stick” with us. That only owners were allowed the privilege of access. We stated we didn’t need a fire stick we only needed the facility to sign in and use our passwords to obtain access. His response was they were not allowing us to do that as guests forgot to sign out so it breached data protection. We suggested that surely when the maintenance staff checked each unit this could be something that could easily be checked and they could sign out if the previous guests had forgotten to. He stated this was not possible. We said that most holiday rentals now offered smart TVs and signing in has never been an issue in any other resorts we had stayed in. This received a shrug of his shoulders. 4. He stated they don’t leave instructions any longer on how to use the cookers or microwave but couldn’t say why? 5. Similarly he stated that they no longer supply a tea towel. 6. He admitted we should have been provided with one black refuse sack! We still didnt get one but had alread purchased some. On a more positive observation the lodge was clean, warm and comfortable with the locality being quiet and peaceful, it just fell far short of expectations and really does only accommodate four adults if you want to sit in an armchair or on a settee. Also bring your own tea towels, dishwasher tablets, and of course the very important “fire stick”!! On a final note we sent an email to Sykes on the second day of our stay regarding these issues and are still waiting for a response!!!!

Beautiful lodge and grounds but the lodge is lacking bedside lamps in the bedroom as it needs softer lighting to help you relax, also there was no dishwasher tables, as you need eco and not the ones I would bring from home, other than that it’s amazing

  • "Just checked in to find that the description and photo for Deer View Lodge still misrepresents the property we were allocated."

It states "1 x twin with en-suite cloakroom" and photo 24 of 31 shows this as an en-suite toilet and basin for a twin bedded room. Disappointed that this misrepresentation still persists, even though we told you and Park Leisure. Allowing this to persist does not appear in line with your contract terms. Also very disappointed that the manager of Malvern View appeared to contradict his apology when we were leaving by re-stating that an "1 x twin with en-suite cloakroom" is a just a cupboard and photos are only representative. The description does not warn that you might be allocated a lodge with key facilities missing. How do we avoid a repeat of this situation with any future booking with Sykes?

  • "We had a wonderful stay at Deer Lodge."

The lodge is very well equipped and comfortable. The park on which the lodge is situated is quiet and beautifully maintained. I have suggested the listing should be updated as there is so much more that isn't included; for example the lodge has a washer dryer, the park itself has a laundrette and a brilliant children's play area. The deer park is wonderful, being able to see the deer close up and feed them is very special (the reception provide free bags of food). The reception team were very knowledgeable about days out and even though there wasn't much information about what is nearby in the lodge, there are plenty of leaflets in the reception. The WiFi is free however you do need to ask reception for a code.
