  • "We arrived after a 6 hour drive."

The front garden was overgrown, walked to rear of property and the rear garden was grossly overgrown, the table and 2 chairs were on the uneven grass, could not be used .. Entered the property and my wife compaired it to an old peoples home,no curtains in kitchen for privacy,a locked bedroom upstairs, the property to our left had filthy curtains and we thought there maybe squatters in residence as the fencing was falling down and the whole scenario made my wife feel uneasy about staying. We then sat in the lounge area and all you got was moths flying around in your face, very off putting. As we were so tyred due to our long journey we decide to stay the 1 night. We then left the following morning at 5.15 am to travel home. Due to all I have said I would expect a full refund for the 2 nights we did not stay and also a refund of the cleaning charge as there was cobwebs all over which we pulled down.I would have thought sykes cottages would inspect these properties to make sure they are upto spec,As this one was certainly not

This has to be the most extraordinary review I have had. It does not fit with other comments I have had about it being "nicely appointed". I am rather puzzled at the opinion of my garden, especially considering I had just had the front garden cut back (at the cost of £200), and the back lawn cut very recently. I won't pass on the comments to my perfectly nice nextdoor neighbour!. Moths will come in if you leave a window open and lights on - it is a semi rural setting, with the common just round the corner. I am concerned about cobwebs, however. The spiders do take over if there is a gap in occupation, but I have talked with my cleaning company, and they will go in just before a booking to do a final check. Property Owner

  • "Not a good start to arrive on a cold winters night to find no heating on in the property until we switched it on ourselves."

Handwritten instructions as to how to set up the cooker which was also switched off would have been appreciated as we never yet got it to work. The bed was comfortable and clean and nice clean bathroom. However make sure to take your own toilet paper as none was provided!

Thank you for your comments. I have spoken to the cleaning company about making sure there is plenty of toilet paper, soap etc for visitors, and am adding instructions for the cooker and heating. I hope you were able to enjoy your stay nevertheless. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely few days and absolutely loved how very quiet this cottage is."

I did think a couple of lamps in the sitting room would be good for more subtle lighting and we were a bit disappointed that no Christmas decorations were put up - probably my fault for not checking beforehand and making assumptions that it would be decorated but this was the first Christmas holiday rental where this has been the case. However, I would certainly come here again to explore the area in hopefully the better summer months and would love to sit in your lovely back garden which we didn't do this year. Loved your front garden as well!

Having checked feedback, I am now going to provide a Christmas tree and decorations, and an additional lamp. There is a standard lamp there, but another would be a good idea. I'm glad you liked the garden. Property Owner

  • "A pleasant stay except for the fact that the listing seemed to suggest we would have been located nearer to shops and amenities."

Every conceivable thing was provided and the decor gave the cottage a cosy, homely touch. Very much appreciated.

  • "Everything was easy to do and so peaceful there."

Plenty of shops nearby so the less cooking for me the better,!Lots of places to visit but advisable to check on Internet first as a lot of places not open beginning of week.Went to the Safari Park and steam train trip departing from Kidderminster. Also Ledbury is an attractive village to visit. In fact its a lovely county full stop

  • "It would have been helpful if instructions to work appliances had been available."

e.g. heating, washer etc. The hot water tap in the bathroom washbasin was loose and needed attention. There was no internet access - a must for any property. The television reception was poor with the picture breaking up. On the plus side the location was good easy to find and the beds were very comfortable. The outside appearance of the garden, front path gave an impression of being somewhat neglected. On arriving home we checked the current rental price to be far more than we paid. Disappointing!

I'm sorry that you arrived when these things had yet to be sorted. The internet went live the day after you left!. Yes my gardener had twisted her ankle, so it had not been tended for a while. The wobbly tap has been tightened. So, any adverse aspects are addressed as soon as possible. My aim is to ensure all visitors have an enjoyable stay. Property Owner
