  • "Everything about our stay was lovely."

  • "Lovely place, great location, really quiet, well equipped, only gripes, DVD player didn't work, reported it but Phil didn't have a replacement, guess this will soon be sorted."

The taps in the bathroom need looking at, extremely difficult to turn off especially the hot and impossible with wet hands. New washers I think.

  • "We had the best week at Owl Cottage, from the minute we arrived and noticed how we had some essentials (milk, bread etc) and a lovely bunch of flowers left for us."

The beds were extremely comfortable and the house well stocked with everything we could need. It was clean and welcoming and an excellent, quiet location with lots to do and excellent dog walking spot at Haugh Wood. We’ve had such a wonderful week, would highly recommend, thank you to the owners.

  • "Everything was catered for, when we arrived there was tea, coffee etc along with other essential food stuffs."

The beds were comfy and the location wonderful. We spotted many different birds and even some deer. The hot tub was unbelievable. There was so much to do without leaving the property. And Hereford was a lot bigger than we thought. We are looking into another holiday soon.

  • "Amazing find, especially as a first-time user of Sykes!"

This accommodation has everything you need and A LOT more! In fact, it would be worth updating the facilities list so as to avoid doubling up on things like cleaning products, cooking basics, even dog bowls! Not forgetting the filter coffee machine and air fryer!!! The place was clean and spacious enough for 5 plus dog through 4 days of rubbish weather. We made use of the jigsaws and cosy lounge while the teenager made use of the strong Wifi signal! Then the patio came into its own once the rain stopped and the sun came out... the hot-tub was a bonus came rain or shine! The beds were really comfy (with extra blankets provided if you like, of course) and add in the fresh air, we slept like logs. The surroundings were beautiful and peaceful with plenty of nature and a fine country pub in easy walking distance (Butchers Arms). Plus we were a short drive from towns like Ledbury for a spot of culture & charm, retail therapy and, of course, a coffee/cake! Highly recommend...although only tell a few friends so we can keep this little gem to ourselves!

About the location

WOOLHOPE

Fownhope 2.7 miles; Ledbury 7 miles; Hereford 7 miles; Ross-on-Wye 7 miles.

Just 7 miles from Hereford, the picturesque village of Woolhope lies in unspoilt countryside and boasts two traditional village pubs, both serving excellent local food and real ale. Woolhope is close to the Wye Valley Walk, a 136-mile trail following the border between England and Wales, as well as The Hereforshire Trail and Three Choirs Way. Close by, Haugh Woods offer 850 acres of ancient forest boasting many rare species of moth and butterfly and numerous lovely walks through an unspoilt area of Herefordshire. Local produce can be acquired in the popular monthly farmers’ markets in Woolhope and nearby Fownhope, which boasts an Iron Age Hill Fort and stunning views from Capler Hill. Nearby Hereford, with its wonderful 11th century cathedral and famous Mappa Mundi is worth a visit, as are the riverside towns of Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth with their timbered buildings, striking 17th century market halls and excellent shops, pubs and restaurants. A walk on Marcle Ridge looks across the valley to the ancient town of Ledbury which is just a short drive away with its many listed, timber-framed buildings, the most outstanding being the 17th century Market House in the town centre. The town has bustled with street markets since the 12th century and is home to antique and flea markets, craft fairs, as well as gardens, book and poetry festivals. Enjoy the beautiful countryside by taking a stroll along the banks of the River Wye, a hot air balloon ride or a canoe down the river. The charming 'town of books' Hay-on-Wye, the magnificent Black Mountains, unspoilt Brecon Beacons National Park, magnificent Royal Forest of Dean and the Malvern Hills, all make a great day out.
