Toothbrush, radix shower gel etc amazing catered for in case anything forgotten as it’s quite a way from shops. Butchers arms recommend lovely food reasonably priced. Picked apples from the trees. • "We have stayed in several cottages over the years through Sykes, We can honestly say that this cottage is one of the best, we would rate it at 99."

5%, the only reason it is not a 100%, because we need a walk in shower, rather than step into bath shower over bath, which is too difficult. The setting, countryside and views outstanding. within cottage without question everything is provided, and very comfortable. Also the provision of eggs, bread, butter, milk, Jams, tea bags, coffee and sugar awaiting our arrival was great. Like we say a fantastic comfortable cottage to stay at!!! we will deffo be returning when we can.

  • "Lovely cottage, very well equipped and comfortable."

Essential supplies in fridge and bread bin much appreciated since travel delays meant we missed shopping closing! Perfect for Ellie, our dog especially the lawned area in front of the cottage - she loved it. Dog bowls etc a nice touch. Only thing missing - a frying pan - but this a very minor issue. Would definitely recommend the Carthouse.

  • "A beautiful location with great garden/outdoor space."

The perfect place to get away from it all. The local Butchers Arms pub is a 20 minute walk away and is well worth visiting. There were some lovely little details such as the fresh flowers and bread, eggs, milk and jam left for us. Phillip and Anthony were very helpful and welcoming. Thank you very much.

Great place to stay for exploring the Wye Valley or just relaxing in the quiet peace and tranquility of the Herefordshire countryside. Owners not intrusive, but on hand if you need them. Great place to stay.

About the location

WOOLHOPE

Fownhope 2.7 miles; Ledbury 7 miles; Hereford 7 miles; Ross-on-Wye 7 miles.

Just 7 miles from Hereford, the picturesque village of Woolhope lies in unspoilt countryside and boasts two traditional village pubs, both serving excellent local food and real ale. Woolhope is close to the Wye Valley Walk, a 136-mile trail following the border between England and Wales, as well as The Hereforshire Trail and Three Choirs Way. Close by, Haugh Woods offer 850 acres of ancient forest boasting many rare species of moth and butterfly and numerous lovely walks through an unspoilt area of Herefordshire. Local produce can be acquired in the popular monthly farmers’ markets in Woolhope and nearby Fownhope, which boasts an Iron Age Hill Fort and stunning views from Capler Hill. Nearby Hereford, with its wonderful 11th century cathedral and famous Mappa Mundi is worth a visit, as are the riverside towns of Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth with their timbered buildings, striking 17th century market halls and excellent shops, pubs and restaurants. A walk on Marcle Ridge looks across the valley to the ancient town of Ledbury which is just a short drive away with its many listed, timber-framed buildings, the most outstanding being the 17th century Market House in the town centre. The town has bustled with street markets since the 12th century and is home to antique and flea markets, craft fairs, as well as gardens, book and poetry festivals. Enjoy the beautiful countryside by taking a stroll along the banks of the River Wye, a hot air balloon ride or a canoe down the river. The charming 'town of books' Hay-on-Wye, the magnificent Black Mountains, unspoilt Brecon Beacons National Park, magnificent Royal Forest of Dean and the Malvern Hills, all make a great day out.
